Laura was so mature beyond her years. You would never know there was quite an age difference between her and Luke.

The way they style Luke always has me feeling some kind of way. The intensity of these two. This is why I was so smitten with Luke when I was only 14. It is worse now as an adult watching this.
Great acting from Anthony Geary in this episode!! He is a good actor, period.
LOL Luke telling Laura she lives in dream land and calling he fantasy girl. And telling her she must read the Hans Christian Anderson Chronicles. This is why I loved them. Everyone, and I mean everyone, coddled and protected Laura until this point. She was whiny and had no backbone at all. Every time anything happened she fell apart and I'm talking all the way back to when Leslie found her. I couldn't stand her character until she started to change during these scenes with Luke. It was all due to what she hears in that closet. This is when Laura finds her backbone and starts to change. I watched it all real time and I was about two years older than Laura. I, and many people like me, always felt she was attracted to Luke and did respond but then it got out of hand when she decided no she didn't want to go that far. The later scenes of course played into that scenario. Now we would call it victim shaming, but then we really didn't have the context and even though sussezq's recordings don't go back farther, Laura spent a lot of time with Luke leading up to the night of the rape. They were very good friends. That was why everyone, not just Bobbi, was suspicious and Laura knew they would be which was part of the reason she lied. But, there is also the element that most people don't talk about which is that because of what Laura heard and the secret she and Luke had to keep, they grew even closer than they had before. Laura became torn. He had done this horrible thing she forgave him for but now he was literally saving her life in a world she knew nothing about (it's obvious in these scenes she is in over her head). She finally realizes he is risking his life for her and starts to believe he does love her. This is a very slow turn with great writing GH did. I was in college then and everyone would be riveted to their TVs when GH was on. Women and men, girls and boys. The tension of this storyline was off the charts.
The lead up to the rape showed how much she valued his opinion. He was always intruding new ideas to her..Roy even said she was Luke’s woman on earlier in the evening on night of rape.

Thank you for all the background! Though I watched it all in real time I was a little younger than you and don't remember it all. I do think from the little I've seen that Laura was in love with Luke for a long time before the rape. She was very young and naive though and her emotional immaturity prevented her from understanding herself. She just wanted to fit in the mold she thought she was supposed to. Really miss that community environment having less TV fostered. We had less choices so we gathered together for the same events. Miss those times❤

I remember watching these in real time back in the eighties. Laura is my age, and I remember telling my mom that I wished Laura didn't whine so much about telling on Luke. Either tell, or shut up about it! Lol!! This was what I watched every day after school.

Yes in real-time I was same age also…back then my thoughts were different than now!! Guess that comes with old age or mature thinking …lol, instead of the young happy go lucky thoughts of lightness about it in a weird way back then!!

@sussezq : I think he's being harsh to PROTECT her. He has to grab onto her to try to shock her into realizing what she's doing. He's terrified she's going to be hurt, and he has good reason to be terrified. He grabbed her out of love. He's always shown pure love for her, from the beginning. It's very obvious and quite beautiful, I say.

That's what's she's learning from Luke not Scotty.
As you go along and watch the '93 return - he grabs her the same way there at a certain point (I won't spoil it here), but he does it out of that same desperation. It's a bit abusive, but not necessarily meant to be, but that is how the character knows to get her character's attention.
@ShelliStuart I certainly agree.. but he has the potential to be very emotional when it comes to her.. so where some people might try to make a point without the grabbing, he is very focused on his perspective to even think about that, IMHO.

you are so correct sussezq. It is a soap and i just got carried away. i keep forgetting Laura's character is only 18 years old.Thanks for the reality check. i certainly enjoy your post. It is apart of being a soap opera fan to talk back to the t.v set or playlist and express your opinion. i myself have been watching soaps for over 30 years and can get carried away sometimes and tend to react to the character as if they are apart of everyday life.That is the fault of their realistic acting.

Have an issue with anyone calling someone stupid even if it is a character in a story.Life is about perspective... and if you lead the life Laura has led up until this point it makes sense that she cannot at all understand the Luke or the situations he has been in his whole life.Besides the fact that she thinks he has ulterior motives. She knows how much he likes her and it could seem like a ploy to get close if you really have no idea what the "mob" is all about(Not Sonny's warm fuzzy one!)
THAT GRAB LUKE DOES IS A LITTLE STRONG. I UNDERSTAND WHY, BUT WOW. AND WHY DIDN'T THE OTHER STUDENTS NOTICE AND SAY SOMETHING. ( I KNOW THAT THE ACTORS IN THIS SCENE WASN'T SUPPOSED TO SEE ANYTHING), BUT IT WASN'T A GENTLE GRAB BY LUKE.

In retrospect, getting involved with Luke caused Laura nothing but trouble. Not that Scotty was the answer but Luke can't help attracting bad things. Actually going to the FBI would have been a good idea. If Mr. Smith went down so would Luke.
Luke is totally right about the organization, they hold all the power. Until RICO charges became a thing it was almost impossible to prosecute the mob because of how their organizations were constructed.
@@lisah9709 Years after this storyline Frank Smith was still trying to kill Luke and Laura. In 2015, Lukes last major storyline it was Frank Smith that had abducted his son. Turning him in did nothing but make a worse enemy. He probably should have been a good little mobster and married Jennifer. Afterall when he came back to PC in 1993 he joined with Sonny and became a mobster anyway. That might have guaranteed everyone's safety including Laura.
@user-ib4gw1kt5o I guess my response to this would be "What price freedom?" To gain "safety" in exchange for liberty and the chance to live any part of your life with the woman you love. Luke really didn't have a choice. He was terrified of marrying Jennifer mostly because of losing the chance at life with Laura. There is a scene where Frank Smith hugs Jennifer and Luke and talks about how when they're married he will expect total loyalty from them. I don't watch past 1981 because I don't agree with the direction later writers take the characters. Luke is a real hero not an anti-hero. He is totally fleshed out by the original writers as an honest decent human being. He forgoes 10 million dollars in gold bars because it's "dirty" and that is just one thing he does as a hero. The idea that he would join the mob later is ludicrous to me. That is something original Luke wouldn't do. I don't disagree that this post '81 Luke is different. Just for me, up to 1981 is cannon and not after.
