    I swear I remember when I was a kid, I was told a solar oven never got hot enough to even boil water (I lived in the southwest my whole life, so its not location) and I see some of these getting up near 500 degrees.... ? so what the heck. This is awesome. Its 100% viable and free....

    Bingo... this is the one! After much research and scouring youtube - this is exactly what I'm looking for. I wanted a solar oven/cooker, however, I do have money and can afford something of higher grade than a cardboard cut out. Greg (garden grove, CA) and the sound effects at the 12 minute mark were funny!

    Nice job. I made a solar oven about 10 years ago. It worked fantastic. I gave it to someone when I moved to the Philippines. My design was different from yours in a lot of ways, but yours is nice, too. I made a lot of things in mine, including pot roast, buffalo wings, even pizza.

    Awsome build. Possible considered change for the platten that carries the cooking pot an installation of a gimbel.These are used on boats to keep the stove level especially sailing ships that rock around due to wind and wave action. On this unit would only require only a fore and aft movement.

    Have an old bbq that i was going to throw out ...lined the inside with tin fold and with leaving the top open at different angles (bungi cord holding it in place....a piece of plexi-glass instead of tempered glass ...can get to 300 degrees and cook that chicken ...4 hours of free energy...wow

    Thank you for this video - you've definitely given us food for thought! Some very useful details too - like the "sundial" (neat!), the caster wheels, the "levellers", protective handles for the reflector, cardboard insulation (wow - you must have spent some time cutting all that up) and the "90% reflectiveness" of heavy duty aluminium foil. I think I will be watching this video again, before trying to build one for myself. (Unfortunately though all the Amazon links, except for the two cutting tools, went to an "out of stock" page. That might be because I'm in the UK, I'm not sure).

    Try having the inside of the oven flat black with Flat Black High temp paint. Being shining inside the oven part does not increase the heat. Being flat black increases the heat. You might get probably get 100% more.

    • @jamesjsimon
      @jamesjsimon 10 місяців тому +1

      The flat black will absorb the heat and re-radiate in infrared. Infrared is reflected by the glass in front thus increasing the greenhouse effect. I had a similar oven to yours and I painted it flat black I was able to achieve over 400°.

    Hey bubble. I've been a long time watcher of your other channel and just came across this channel. I'm a long time prepper. First and foremost, awesome job. Really good and amazing attention to detail to build that from scratch.... Second thing I say here not to throw hate especially as a first time comment, but for care. ....Brother, never heat up canned food in the can.... You're releasing all sorts of toxins. Nickel and others. BPA as well as the majority of cans have an extremely thin layer of plastic. Just put them in some other container in your good to go. 👍 Great job buddy. And love the gardening channel.

    Some of this stuff is ingenius!!! Cutting cardboard boxes into little squares for insulation??? Awesome! I should have thought of that for my dry ice containment cooler. I used wet newsprint; and mine is probably much heavier to boot!!! $200 sounds nice. However, I would have to buy all the saws, take a day off to clear some space. You can save a little time and saw needs by using a 28 qt ($5) or 45 qt ($13) styrofoam cooler from Walmart. Very nice design. I just cooked some perfect parboiled rice with a flimsy sun shade from the dollar store. The shade didn't quite work for the dry beans.

      hi, i actually took the idea from a solar oven that is for sale called the 'All American Sun Oven'. But my design is better, their design is a cheap piece of plastic that sits on the outside and blocks some sunlight. I'm technically not an engineer tho. Thanks

    You would be a GOD send for us Sr. citizens. wish you lived by me. Thank you for all your time. I need to find someone who can make one for me. I have all my husband's tools, just don't know how to use them. I have seen one solar cooker where the inside tray can be rotated once you move the box back and forth, no matter where you swing it it stays level. You did a great job. for use old tomers, who live in small places it would need to be something that could be folded, and put out of the way. Just thinking,with all those that I have seen.

    In high latitude countries it never need to be direct to the top, given Earth angls related to sun for high latitude. But on tropical clime near equator line, it is needed.
