We might have failed to get all of our objectives but we gave them a deadly reminder of what the IDF is capable of. I'm not triggered because we both know who's the winner is - the one holding Jerusalem. Our army is mighty and cannot be won by a couple of sewage rats with Soviet era weapons.

The vehicle was still combat capable and even drove home. Another Challenger 2 had its optics shot out and got stuck on its side in a ditch when the driver tried to drive blind. Its arse end, one side and its roof were completely open and vulnerable. It got hit by multiple ATGMs and dozens of RPGs of various types and not a single one penned, even when hit in the rear, side and roof. In fact, once help arrived, the tank was driven home after the crew could stick their heads out of the hatches to see where they were going. It only needed repairs to its optics and a few replacement composite plates to replace the few plates that had cracked under the intense, several hour long barrage.

The Merkava Mark 4 is a Main Battle Tank and currently it and the Challenger 2 are the most heavily protected MBTs in the world to both other tanks and ATGMs. MBTs will not die out for a very long time. And most modern MBTs, M1A2, Merkava, Type 99, T-14, T-90 carry a multiple of things to stop ATGMs including, ERA, cage, and APS, and currently the most effective are cage and APS. Whoops still not done. The Kornet ATGM is classified as one of the most deadly ATGMs in the world so even throwing a Merkava at it is highly unlikely but a multiple of other tanks can stop it like the T-90, M1A2, or the Challenger 2. Man I should really finish this faster. The Merkava mark 3 didn't carry Trophy APS which can stop a Kornet. The Mark 4 does. The Mark 4 can also carry Iron Fist APS which can stop sabots.

Farouk Nazaruddin Russian hardware has almost universally been found to be a giant waste of money. The main target; the West, has proven it can act with virtual impunity against all of its hardware, and not once has any piece of hardware performed up to spec--including the kornet. Although the kornet is the only exception to the rule here, it indeed didn't and doesn't perform as well as advertised. The number of kornets wasted when compared to the numbers that actually hit the target, on all battlefields prove this. So if you're comparing to western alternatives, you have to buy 10-12 times the amount of ATGMs and the kornet is a giant waste of money and can even have said to have been a waste of time for the Russian engineers that built it.

Not many people know that the Merkava can also function as an APC or an IFV. The decision to deploy an infantry platoon must be crucial. The Kornet is any tankers nightmare. They need support tanks which must be capable against ATGM's. Like the short barreled Sherman vs German AT Guns and the longer barreled 76 mm which was more suited against enemy armor in WW2.

In 2003 the US 3rd ID was extremely successful in using armor to make a push into a major metro area called Baghdad. A city of nearly 8 million people and the tanks from 3rd ID ripped through it like shit through a goose. They lost only one, yes count them, ONE tank in the process.

Merkawas may be disabled by Missile fire (Tanks are not a thread in Lebanon) but the crew has a higher chance to survive if the tank is hit compared to Other modern tanks regardless of their origin. The Israelian Army is small and cannot afford loosing highly skilled tank crew members. The tanks can be replaced.

it would be foolish to rely on active protection system and get the sense of "invincibility" in a tank. indeed it's a potent defense but many forget that rpgs are very cost-effective. can this system defend against 4-5 or more say 10 rpg attacks at once? of course it cant. and what about IEDs and antitank mines? those go though belly of a tank like hot knife though butter. overconfidence - it's utter demise. for example, many israeli tankers died in their venture in lebanon due to stupidity of their commanders who thought merkava was invincible.

Only time the C2 was ever even penned by an ATGM was when insurgents buried an RPG29 in the ground and fired it into the belly armour of a C2 tank.
Even that tactic wouldnt work any more as the C2 has since has a 4 ton composite armoured mine plate added to its belly that brings the belly armour into line with the upper glacis and turret front.
Besides the RPG, do you have information about Challenger 2 Main Battle Tanks hit by modern russian anti tank weapons?. The invasion of Iraq is not really a good example to estimate how strong is a tank protection, because it fought only against old weapons.

The RPG29, which is a modern weapon, penned the belly of a Challenger 2 and didnt even cripple it. The only damage it did was take three toes off the drivers left foot. The vehicle was still combat capable and even drove home.
Another Challenger 2 had its optics shot out and got stuck on its side in a ditch when the driver tried to drive blind. Its arse end, one side and its roof were completely open and vulnerable. It got hit by multiple ATGMs and dozens of RPGs of various types and not a single one penned, even when hit in the rear, side and roof.
In fact, once help arrived, the tank was driven home after the crew could stick their heads out of the hatches to see where they were going. It only needed repairs to its optics and a few replacement composite plates to replace the few plates that had cracked under the intense, several hour long barrage.
Thats no evidence of challenger 2 MBT being hit by modern antitank guided missiles. A buried RPG29 is not being used properly. And "It got hit by multiple ATGMs and dozens of RPGs of various types" is not evidence either.

The Merkava Mark 4 is a Main Battle Tank and currently it and the Challenger 2 are the most heavily protected MBTs in the world to both other tanks and ATGMs. MBTs will not die out for a very long time. The main target; the West, has proven it can act with virtual impunity against all of its hardware, and not once has any piece of hardware performed up to spec--including the kornet. Although the kornet is the only exception to the rule here, it indeed didn't and doesn't perform as well as advertised. The number of kornets wasted when compared to the numbers that actually hit the target, on all battlefields prove this.
So if you're comparing to western alternatives, you have to buy 10-12 times the amount of ATGMs and the kornet is a giant waste of money and can even have said to have been a waste of time for the Russian engineers that built it.

Ellie, I did read what you say, and I understand there are reasons that alot of people have joined the ter forces, but I think they have been mostly indocctrinated. Not many people know that the Merkava can also function as an APC or an IFV. The decision to deploy an infantry platoon must be crucial. The Kornet is any tankers nightmare. They need support tanks which must be capable against ATGM's. Like the short barreled Sherman vs German AT Guns and the longer barreled 76 mm which was more suited against enemy armor in WW2.
hit means damaged it is what the IDF officially admited and those damages ranged from total destruction to light damage... non the less the ones which were not destryed needed money invested to bring them back to operational level and a doze or so were to damaged and were decomissioned from service and used for spear parts.

In 2003 the US 3rd ID was extremely successful in using armor to make a push into a major metro area called Baghdad. A city of nearly 8 million people and the tanks from 3rd ID ripped through it like shit through a goose. They lost only one, yes count them, ONE tank in the process.

Merkawas may be disabled by Missile fire (Tanks are not a thread in Lebanon) but the crew has a higher chance to survive if the tank is hit compared to Other modern tanks regardless of their origin. The Israelian Army is small and cannot afford loosing highly skilled tank crew members. The tanks can be replaced.

I was, also, pointing out that only total, uncompromising war can achieve total victory. Limited warfare with limited goals doesn't solve anything. Israel has the training, equipment and experience to achieve a resounding victory over Hizbollah if the IDF is allowed to conduct total warfare. Victory, to me, is by eliminating the enemy's ability to hurt you.

No tank is indestructible. Be it a M1A2, T-92, Leclerc, Challengers, Leopards, Merkavas, etc..2006 Conflict showed that a "limited" war doesn't war. Israel had forgotten that only total war can achieve victory. 2006 Conflict wasn't total war. Maybe the Israelis under-estimated Hizbollah's increasing inventories of better weapons.
