  • E.P.# 58 Alan Benjamin is a lifelong musician who first studied piano at age three, switched to violin several years later (playing in two New York City orchestras), and then guitar.
Alan attended a semester at the renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston, Mass. Impatient with the first-year curriculum, he left to seek experience in the real world, which soon led to an 18-month stint playing clubs in the Philadelphia-based band "Merlin". In the late 1980s, Alan recorded several solo pieces (playing all instruments himself) and also received advanced guitar instruction from jazz-rock maestro Glenn Alexander. Shortly afterward, he met up with keyboardist Henry Ptak, and "Advent" was born. They have released three recordings "Advent"(1997), "Cantus Firmus"(2006), & "Silent Sentinel"(2015).
In addition to maintaining a full-time commitment with "Advent", Alan is recording his own solo music & his worked with "NJProgHouse". "NJProgHouse" based in Central New Jersey showcases progressive music from New Jersey and also from around the USA & the world.

Thanks a lot for having me on your series, Dennis. It was great speaking with you.
Also, as a quick correction: I hadn't thought much about my early concerts in relation to my time at boarding school, but I did actually see quite a few great concerts during my four years there (some in and around Philly, which was local to the school, and others back home in NYC as well). My first big one was Queen with Thin Lizzy opening, at Madison Square Garden, in February of 1977 (in awesome 16th-row center seats on the floor as well). A few other notable concerts from that time period include Kansas, Heart, Styx, Sweet, Boston, and Rush.
Best wishes and, again, much appreciated!
