  • Graeme has been set a challenge. To catch a trout on gear sent by a subscriber. His choice of venue is Avington Fishery in Hampshire and he guides you through his day with a first person view on his camera that he reckons is one of his best yet...Better get the coffee pot on, this film is almost an hour long, with some great hookups, action and tips...Graeme has been on form with winter trout fishing this past year and his cat-like, lightning fast reflexes, water craft knowledge and personal casting methods coupled with dashing James Bond good looks and it creates a combination that sees any trout in the water shiver their fins !!....As usual its another great episode from the man that makes fishing films entirely on his own.(Actually better put 2 pots of coffee on!)

    Excellent video as always, Graeme!
I'd bet money on that line being a Barrio GT90. The head is 73' long which (as you know) is useful for casting into the wind, long range accuracy, mending on rivers at distance, long range roll and spey casts and overhead distance. You can carry a lot of line with this. I use the GT125 for practicing carry, this is orange and a bit longer. It's also cheaper than the SA MED, as I really destroy lines on grass. 😂
You describe the taper disappearing after about 25 yards which would suggest that this is the GT90 🙂
Come and visit our lakes in Warwickshire sometime when this Covid-19 situation has calmed down!
    All the best!
    Nick

Graeme's right, the standard setting for right-handed anglers is left hand operation of reel. I'm right handed but have always used right hand wind as my left only has to hold the rod on the retrieve. I hold the rod with my right to cast and then switch to hold with my left. Maybe Tony was left-handed, but maybe he did the same as me? Great fishing session, thanks Graeme.

Top video. You're lucky I noticed on most of your trout vids there doesn't seem to be a weight restriction on what you can keep. This end, most fisheries have a rule requiring us to release anything over 3lb. Bit of a cheek if you ask me but what can you do? Great average size of fish there. How much is a day ticket for x fish??
I think I've watched most or all of your videos but do you have a SWFFing one for pollack / wrasse? Really want to have a go at that this year.

You did him proud Graeme. I have been fishing for 60 years but never fly fished but would like to give it a go, i don't want to buy loads of gear as i have so much course gear as it is. So i'm thinking a rod length between 8-9ft and a weight of 5-6 i intend to fish mainly rivers but at times lakes, would the length and weight i mentioned be OK ?. The other thing i will have to learn is when to fish a wet or dry fly. Cheers

In a pond like that do you have to pay a day pass or for each trout or both and what is the cost. To my knowledge we do not have meny if any of those trout pay ponds here. There are some catfish pay ponds but my understanding is you pay to fish and can keep every thing you catch

    • @TAFishing
      @TAFishing  4 роки тому

There are probably thousands of them here in Britain. Large reservoirs of hundreds of acres in size would have smaller fish, but larger "keep" limits, say 8 fish for a day ticket. Smaller lakes with bigger fish would be more expensive and average catch limit would be 4-fish. Some do a 2 fish ticket. There are lots of variables.

I enjoy fly fishing, but I've only ever fly fished rivers before, I have a couple of lake venues near me I want to try soon, they're much closer than the rivers I fish.
BUT....and i know it's perhaps not great sport....if catching Trout on a commercial lake venue is the target, why use the fly method when they're raised on Pellets? Is using pellets against the rules on these venues?

It's not "78" on the reel Graeme, it's 7-8 indicating it's made to be used in conjunction with 7 or 8 weight line/rods.
P.S You really should invest in some new landing nets........SHOCKING.

@@TAFishing Well, you wouldn't would you, they don't know what day it is and they lack the ability to communicate. Lets face it, Trout aren't the most cleverest of fish species, especially when they're in a stew pond, anybody can catch them, even you??????

Much respect to you Graeme but why use the derogatory term "snowflakes" to describe people who are sensitive to seeing something killed? It is not a choice to feel that way, It is just a variation on human behaviour and not to be ridiculed. Good video anyway.
