  • The explosion of precision medicine has brought forth tremendous innovation in our pursuit to address significant unmet medical needs around the world, and the health care industry is harnessing patient data to dramatically improve patient outcomes.
Patient data utilization has opened the door to new scientific, clinical and business opportunities. However, there are also privacy risks and algorithm biases within the systems that process patient data. “The intent to improve health outcomes and improve care is so core to our missions, and the ability to use all kinds of unique information and be able to help one individual ... is so motivating,” said Marinka Natale, CEO of health informatics platform LynxIQ. “But on the other side, is more data better? Some would argue that some of the most broken parts of the health care system right now are tied to the best intent to capture data to improve outcomes and to be able to measure those outcomes.”
Natale and fellow panelists discussed the opportunities, trade-offs and pitfalls of this new technology landscape.
Presented by the student-led Healthcare Business Association (HBA) and sponsored by Johnson & Johnson, the 2023 Vitals conference convened under the theme of The Pursuit of Precision Medicine.
