1. Research of college
2. Letters of recommendations
3.Trying to retake SAT/ACT with no need
you are the best
Thank you so much
College applications, applying for Scholarships, keeping my grades up, writing those essays. I gotta do ALL that in my senior year. #Classof2020 where ya'll at??😭😭 Freshmens and sophomores better enjoy themselves while they can cause Junior and Senior year no joke. 😂
Senior year is dreadful
Deadass me i spent all day today writing my essays for college and Im done 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 i havemt even made a dent and my sat scores dont come in until friday and i have work 4x a week i have homeowrk and stufying and 😭😭😭😭 Awful
Elisabeth Forever there's literally no college that has culinary arts in my state
Right here. It sucks. Lol
Me. I absolutely fucking hate this garbage process.
At our school there’s this almost ceremonious culture around letters of rec. Some teachers have specific instructions (ex. one AP lang teacher asks you to email her to set up an appointment to ask for a rec letter, and come prepared with a printed out resume and a list of colleges) but for the most part, you MUST ask them in person. Must must must. Otherwise it’s tacky and you look disinterested. Also, it’s customary to get them a *handwritten* thank you note with maybe a little gift, like Starbucks gift card, or something more personalized. It would probably look good to do this at other schools as well!
Shawn Mendez giving me college advice? Oh boy.
Ooo which collage is it

Going to be binge watching your videos all summer 😂 #Classof2020
That's what I like to hear!
Found this but late but I'm watching similar ones as well 😂

Greg Smith I’ve literally watch all your videos now. Plus all of SuperTutor TV. I gotta say thank you so much! I’ve learned a lot. You’re actually a legend!
where are you going to college rachel?
You could also talk about what the best things you could do for your application during the summer. Possibly discuss jobs/internships/fellowships/scholarships in another video. Just some thoughts 😊
Wonderful ideas! Thank you thank you
Imagine not capitalizing "i"
Ask in person? Lol that’s kind of hard rn
Maddie Wang it’s more than kinda :(

Hey!! Love all your amazing videos!! Can you please create a video of tips for college admissions specifically for international students?? Thank you!
I feel like the way my school does letters of recommendation is really successful, but I go to a small school and I feel like this wouldn’t work well for a class of more than 100 or so students. In January, we fill out a form with our intended major and our top 6 teachers we would want to be our recommenders. On a teacher planning day over the summer, our teachers collaborate and find the best 2 recommenders for each person. We find out when we get back to school, and can switch if you realize there’s a certain subject you need a recommendation from. Then we send a résumé to the teachers we matched with and get our letters of recommendation! It’s a pretty complicated process but I feel like it’s still more streamlined than the way that some schools do it.
Yep Absolutely! As long as people do things they enjoy and continue to work hard hopefully everything will work out:) 😊
My thoughts exactly :)
Thanks so much! I've been trying to figure out just generally how to find a university that isn't nationally ranked.
idk why i keep rewatching your videos YOUR VOICE IS AMAZINGGGG ohh
He’s back!
Thank You for the information Greg, Great Video!
You're welcome!
Great video greg 😊👏
Great video. Thank you!
You’ve hit us with an amazing video once again, Greg! Maybe you could talk about when students are in college, how they can stand out out in the job market and such. You could also talk about your life in Princeton and how it’s different from high school. What about networking and why that’s important (or not) in high school?
Love these suggestions!! You're amazing, Snigdha
Greg Smith you’re amazing for making these videos, thanks for your hard work :)

Super helpful!
Thank you!
Thanks a bunch. 🙏🏾
shit. my junior year is over and i havent really thought about recommendation letters. and what if i want to get a recommendation letter from a teacher who wasnt my teacher but whom i know really well?
great video!
Some schools need or make it optional to have recommendations from people that aren't teachers. If you think that a rec letter from an outside source (ie, not a teacher) would help, then I would say go for it!
i think u should get a rec from on of ur teachers. just choose a teacher who knows u well
@Aiden Adams yikes, r u doing ea or ed?
@Aiden Adams lol u sound like ur chilling lmao
Hi Greg! Can u please talk about taking a gap year and what do you think of it?
0:37 I love how this completely disregards the fact the a vast chunk of viewers are probably watching this from their phone lmao
trying to figure out how to ask for a letter of recommendation when i cant meet my teacher lmao
Email them. Check your school’s website for contact information and set up a call.
Coffee Bean I'm pretty sure that was a joke
Make a video about half year transfer, like how much possible is it and every details about it and what colleges accept it and what they look for in students
Just wondering, how much money do you normally get paid for getting sponsored?
“there are a lot of students at your school” there’s 25 students total at my school and 5 seniors haha

There are alot of private schools like that
my junior year was online and I have no connections with my teachers, man I wish I saw this video earlier
I’m taking the ACT sometime this year! Wish me luck! I’m in eighth grade, so I don’t expect that much score-wise. Also, should I put the STEM program on my application? My school has a program for students who excel in certain subjects. I am also in the Challenge or TAG program, which is more selective.
I think you will get accepted if u submit you were in a stem club
As a 9th grader going into high school, what advice do you have for me apart from the the usual like getting good grades and doing amazing extracurriculars?
P.S: this video was really good!
Do extracurriculars you genuinely enjoy - don’t just do them because they look good on college. Get good SAT scores. Build a good repotoire with your teachers so they can write a good rec letter.
@@ashleyhuang388 Thank you!
Vishakh Menon take your SAT or ACT early - start sophomore year. take both (if that’s something people in your region generally do) to see which one you are better at and then study and take your favorite a couple more times in your junior year so you can be done with testing by senior year :) I think honestly this is the biggest advice I ever received and no one talks about how early people should start testing. The earlier the better. If you can’t get a 1600 or a 36 that’s okay but aim to be in the averages for every college you’re applying to because after that it doesn’t matter.
I would say start studying for SAT early. Study like 1 hour a week for freshman, then 2 hours as sophomore then how ever much you need
you told me to put my phone away and i was watching it on my phone so what should i do, i keep trying to watch it but then you tell me to put it away
you made me laugh
I was gonna comment that 😂
Hey, I am going to go to a boarding school for the next two years (last ones) for my top choice I need 3 letters of recommendation, do you think it's a good idea to have one of the house parents to write one of them, or is it better to stick to 3 teachers?
Binging your videos this summer, they really help!
Imo it's always good to have at least one letter thats not from a teacher (assuming the school allows it) because it gives a better idea of who you are in your downtime
@@cilioakenshield7126 thanks!
I got promoted to 8th last month and I have the SAT and ACT past qp without any prep. I got a 1000 on SAT and 26 on ACT. What should I give in the future?

i have two questions. I am in 9th grade. I had A's and B's in semester 1, but in semester 2 two D's and all of them A's and B's (normal classes). Am I going get accepted in UC's if I get good grades in 10th-11th grade or 10th-11th? And my 2nd question is what grade dose UC look at?
How’s it going now?
Hello Greg, Can I apply to major in engineering in top colleges while I'm an author? (+ I think my grades are good).
Hi! You definitely can still apply :) but be sure to include a balance of schools on your list. Maybe a solid 3-4 "top colleges", 3 schools that you feel 50-75% confident you'll get into, and then 2 schools where you know you'll get in with 95%+ confidence.
Greg, thanks. (But you left me with more doubts :-?).
@@CollegeAdvisor Hello, if I have a high gpa but a low sat score can I still get accepted into a top school.
do I have a shot at getting into Princeton? I’m taking 2 AP classes in my current junior year, and these will be 4 in total, I’m planning on taking 3 more senior year, I’m trying to get into NHS, I have a passion for pursuing a law degree once I graduate college, but I don’t know what else to do in high school that will make my application shine. Any ideasv
If ur extracurricular and course load reflect ur passion in law and ur stats reach the threshold, u have a high chance of getting in :)
I have a 30 on act but I have 4.4 gpa and I’m 2nd in my class. should I even bother applying to Stanford, uChicago, Vandy, Tulane, Northwestern? I know it’s a stretch but I just couldn’t get my score to raise
Certainly! You never know where you end up!
A lot of schools are test optional too, so you don’t necessarily have to submit those scores!
hey man thx for the video , whats ur @? i got some questions i wanna ask ya hope u answer

"Prestige certainly will help in the job market." Eh, not as much as people want to think and multiple studies have shown that the numbers do not support this common assumption. Certainly, there are a small number of employers who are elitist and/or are too lazy to go beyond the same 10 schools when recruiting new employees, but pedigree is not all that important to most employers.
Good thing I go to a public school where people don't really apply to top schools so 97% of students don't need LOR's anyways
Wait so if I get a 34+ on the ACT and 750+ on the SAT Subject test, am I good to apply to MIT?
Park Totally! Congrats on your scores!
