We were joined by Sally McRae who probably needs no introduction. Sally is another person I've wanted to talk with since the inception of this podcast and even though this was technically a pre-race interview, so much of what we talked about was only peripherally related to the event, so similar to the Scott Jurek conversation I wanted to save it for a stand-alone podcast a few weeks on.
Specifically, we talk about the trajectory of her career starting with her Nike trail contract signing in the mid-2010s, how to think about the business side of trail running as a creator or athlete, and some of her favorite Western States 100 stories dating back to some of those great Billy Yang films a few years ago.

The first 20 minutes or so was a masterclass in self-development, no matter what field you’re in. EDIT: The whole interview is a masterclass. She is one of the best communicators in this sport or any sport, for that matter.

Love Sally McRae! Listening to her and watching her always helps this 60 year old woman slog through my hot and humid 4 miles. I'll never run a 100, but Sally and many others in the ultra community are a part of me maintaining my fitness and love for the sport of running, at any distance.
damn finn, its gonna take 3 months to go through these bazillion Western States interviews you're posting. Sally inspired me to buy multiple pairs of 2inch and 3inch split side shorts. The intro to her video pods when she's running, with that great music overlay, and the sides of her shorts are flapping like wings is a bad a&& running look

Love what she said at the start. People (from every step in the process) seem to think companies are charities. Make ZERO mistake you have to add value to the company who is paying you. And "Value" is another way of saying "Sales". I don't care if you are the best in the world, if them sponsoring you doesn't equate to sales, you are gone. It blows me away how so many people (in all walks of life) don't understand why businesses exist. We have shareholders we report to (you should be one) and profits are required.
