From what I understand, purchase the F-35 requires certain infrastructure that may not be required for other aircraft (physical, cyber, etc). So I can see this being an attractive option for those nations unable to comply with the required conditions for an F-35 purchase. And frankly, unless you plan on fighting a nation with F-35s, the AESA radar on the new F-15s is more than capable to accomplish its mission. But Mover, you are correct. The per unit cost of the F-35 is lower than an F-15EX. If you want ECM and Targeting pods (both included in the F-35), then that adds an additional $8-$12 million to the per unit costs of the F-15EX. F-35 is a good deal and when the maintenance infrastructure is completed, its (F-35) operational costs will be lower as well. But we can’t always get what we want and ANY nation would be well served with an F-15EX/F-15QA, etc.

The F/A-18C can carry a comparable loadout (10x AIM-120 and 2x AIM-9). Saw all their displays at RIAT 2024, across the week-end, and they were easily one of the highlights of the show. Especially when they flew with a full load of 12 AMRAAM's.
It's surprising with the f-15 being one of the more successful and versatile aircraft in our arsenal that we don't see them performing at air shows very often
Think that QA was here at the FtL Airshow last May. Flew solo. This year was the Thunderbirds instead of the usual local(Pensacola) F/A 18’s Super Hornets. Wish the F-15 had an acrobatic team
I'm an IP at Al Ubeid and they fly them every day. The training area is pretty tight and we all have to share it. Pretty funny to see one of these doing low level in the same area we are doing our stuff, lol.
And that's probably the full 20mm drum also since its part of the CoG considerations. And the scary thing is the airframe still has the capacity, though maybe not the same G-load limit, to carry the CFTs, the targeting pods and three drop tanks for a really long loiter as an amraam truck. And we don't know (publically) if there's any efforts going on to intergrate the AIM-174b onto the F-15EX yet as its a navy led missile program and they focused on making it work with the Super Hornet. It does have the capability for the AIM-260 but the 174b while slower should reach out further.
I watched the F-15QA display each day at the Royal international Air Tattoo in July. Both the clean aircraft and the missile truck performed each day, plus they both did validation displays before the public days. So, I think I saw them perform maybe 8 times. It reminded me of the Ukrainian Flanker display in a lot of ways. All about a big imposing aircraft being thrown around and looking a beast. Nowhere near as agile as the lighter fighters, not disappointing but I preferred the Danish F-16 display to be honest. Air show flying isn’t really the Eagles forte. It works for the Raptor because it’s a beast in every domain.
So simple concept. Take an excellent already in service fighter that's still in production, adapt state of the art new technology and updates to it and make it current time capable part of the fleet for MILLIONS less than the bloated F35. There is no reason all current F-16s, F-18s and F-15s that time out couldn't be replaced with these updated craft, let alone a proper trainer to replace the T-38. Great video. Something tells me the reason Boeing's Airline quality issues haven't bled into the F-15 or F-18 is probably because of the excellent local leadership and staff at that St. Louis plant (McDonnell Douglas leftover standards being maintained).
this just shows how good McDonnell Douglas was at building aircraft before the merger, they built the F-15 so well that even Boeing giving it its best shot can't screw it up.
Boeing also built fantastic aircraft before the merger and it’s fairly well reported that McDonnell Douglas execs were the ones in charge of the new boeing
The pitch meeting for the EX/QA program probably went something like this: Boeing: “how many missiles do you want?” Buyers: “you ever play Ace Combat?” Boeing: “say no more.” Saw the QAs demo at RIAT, oh my! Both loaded and clean configuration, it still performed to the same degree, remarkable machinery. As said, Boeing have had a rough time lately, but at least they’ve got this right.

The EX is truly in a league of it's own, not quite an F-22 but is definitely the pit bull in the corner the the enemy must consider because she's coming at you and there's nothing you can do about it.
I love Star Scream! This video really didn’t show anything other than it could take off and fly with 12 missiles. The video was choppy and didn’t show it maneuvering.
Why don’t they just make a Boeing 737 variant that carries like 150 AIM-120s or something in a big rotary missile bay and just throws them in waves at the enemy? Like just an airborne guided missile destroyer
If you're going to convert an airliner to spam AAMs, you _really_ want something with longer range than an AIM-120 - otherwise all you've done is create another big, slow, high-value target. AIM-174B might be starting to get into the ballpark.
@@Philistine47 someone has to ask it atleast once. I wonder how many they could fit on the stratolaunch. It'd be like the Spruce Goose and the C-5 had an offspring and the AC-130 was the uncle.

Well I hate to bust that notion but they bought it when they bought McDonnell Douglas. It was capable of many of these things all the way back then when it was designed. McD even designed the strike eagle in house before the airforce asked for it.
People talk a lot of smack about McDonnell Douglas. And how their merger ruined Boeing. But the F-15 was done right from the start. It only needed a little love after 50 years to bring it into the current state of the art, among the 4.5 gens.
Don’t forget about the Amber racks which basically doubles the load out. I think 22 is max? And doesn’t sound like it can carry all AMRAAMs with that number. A certain number would be aim 9x. Someone would have to confirm what max payload is with amber racks installed.

How many amraams can the super hornet carry? It might be 14 but I don't know if all the pylons can carry amraams. Plus you couldn't bring any wingtanks so it would severely limit the range.

Saw all their displays at RIAT 2024, across the week-end, and they were easily one of the highlights of the show. Especially when they flew with a full load of 12 AMRAAM's.
Great video, I definitely agree!!!
It's surprising with the f-15 being one of the more successful and versatile aircraft in our arsenal that we don't see them performing at air shows very often
Eagle is officially twin six-shooter status! 🤠
Absolutely correct about the need of F-15's after initial Seed(?) Missions.
SEAD
Yup that was pretty awesome. The new-15’s are a game changer.
I live in the Portland area and the air guard guys flying out of pdx just got the first F15Es and they are pretty bad ass.
Saw this @ RIAT 2024 on the Friday - was a crazy demo! :D
When it absolutely, positively, has to be there on time...
Witnessed this display at RIAT this year. Incredible to see. Just how far ahead of their time were the original designers of the Eagle ?
I was working on the Amraam during th mid eighties with Hughes. Still going.
Now I want the F14 Advanced.
Watching the way it manuvers i would've thought it had thrust vectoring or something.
And my badass Apaches, they are also awesome
this just shows how good McDonnell Douglas was at building aircraft before the merger, they built the F-15 so well that even Boeing giving it its best shot can't screw it up.
Boeing also built fantastic aircraft before the merger and it’s fairly well reported that McDonnell Douglas execs were the ones in charge of the new boeing
The F-15EX is based on the F-15QA, just speced out for the USAF.
The pitch meeting for the EX/QA program probably went something like this:
Boeing: “how many missiles do you want?”
Buyers: “you ever play Ace Combat?”
Boeing: “say no more.”
Saw the QAs demo at RIAT, oh my! Both loaded and clean configuration, it still performed to the same degree, remarkable machinery. As said, Boeing have had a rough time lately, but at least they’ve got this right.
The F15 Eagle 🦅 has always been the best looking aircraft to me.
4:44 to 6 minute mark range in video he makes great points on why 4.5 gen are needed to back up 5th gen.
I remember 2 F-15's flying ovet Belgium many years ago. Belgium has F-16's so I was surprisex a bit. Turns out later they where chasing a pilotless Mig....
"You could just spam-ram, the AMRAAMS" cracked me up. I hate quoting people, cause we all heard wth you said? But that one was worth keeping, lol.
That has been a saying in the DCS community for some time now.
@@Stubbies2003 Well, I'm getting old now, like... operation "Eagle Claw" old- so it's still nice to catch a few gems I've missed along the way, lol. Thx for your content. new to the channel, subbed.
Wonder if the plan is to have this be a missile boat parked 100 nm away, while a F-22 or F-35 gets lock and ID.
My grandfather was project manager at Hughes Aircraft for the AMRAAM. Miss you granddad, glad your work is still flourishing.
The QA is for Qatar, they don’t have F22 or F35.
Oh, the QA can carry that many too?! I love the agility improvements too, nearing thrust vectoring maneuverability.
LOVE the Eagle WITHOUT the EXCESS BAGGAES on the berry!!! 🤩
Looks like the standard 8 load.
None on the fuselage.
Usually 4 can be strapped to the fuselage
Down here in Louisiana , I'm thinking NASBelleChase can accommodate a dozen of these Eagles? Great Segment Mover.
The EX is truly in a league of it's own, not quite an F-22 but is definitely the pit bull in the corner the the enemy must consider because she's coming at you and there's nothing you can do about it.
Having large spaces to upgrade components is the advantage of building a large fighter as opposed to a midsize or small one.
You should check out the video of the demo this did at RIAT, it's on the same channel as the CF-18 demo you did a bit on the other week.
They totally entered IDSPISPOPD. Reminds me of Falcon 3.0 Instant Action with unlimited ammo.
I love Star Scream! This video really didn’t show anything other than it could take off and fly with 12 missiles. The video was choppy and didn’t show it maneuvering.
Ever thought of having Hasard Lee on? Great content as always!
There was a plan in the 1980s to do that with a 747.
A Bone would be a better choice. But I believe the USAF intends to do this with the B-21 Raider hence its gigachad radar
@@Philistine47 someone has to ask it atleast once. I wonder how many they could fit on the stratolaunch. It'd be like the Spruce Goose and the C-5 had an offspring and the AC-130 was the uncle.
Seen a few DCS combats and it seems that in a full war it doesn't matter how many missiles, you still have to use guns sometimes. DCS isn't real life of course but i reckon it will be proved to be true
Serious missile truck.
Got to see its debut at Spirit of STL. Thing is a freakin monster. I'm a Boeing simp now.
Well I hate to bust that notion but they bought it when they bought McDonnell Douglas. It was capable of many of these things all the way back then when it was designed. McD even designed the strike eagle in house before the airforce asked for it.
Saw this at riat 24 was a amazing display and saw it do a tail slide
Looks like defensive EO/IR sensors adjacent to canopy and exhaust nozzles. See 0:50 thru 0:55 of Boeing video.
People talk a lot of smack about McDonnell Douglas. And how their merger ruined Boeing.
But the F-15 was done right from the start. It only needed a little love after 50 years to bring it into the current state of the art, among the 4.5 gens.
My absolute favorite bird, and they just gave it 4 arms. Cant believe its not Lockheed.
Nice to know Boeing is still able to build an aircraft that lands with all the parts it took off with.
…hang some thrust vector nozzles on that monster????
Don’t forget about the Amber racks which basically doubles the load out. I think 22 is max? And doesn’t sound like it can carry all AMRAAMs with that number. A certain number would be aim 9x. Someone would have to confirm what max payload is with amber racks installed.
Got to watch that from my office window everyday of FIA
Outstanding ....
Another good video , thanks !
About the 2:03 mark, crew chief reaching hp for the good luck touch?
About the 2:59 mark , shows, per my USN and curmudgeonly engineering skills , 12 AMRAAMS, in credible ! Some latter closeups show that too, no doubt to *show* maneuvering with the load-out ..... but , could it carry more ? 😉
Beast mode
I agree, as great as 5th gen is, we still need the 4th gen for volume and availability.
How many amraams can the super hornet carry? It might be 14 but I don't know if all the pylons can carry amraams. Plus you couldn't bring any wingtanks so it would severely limit the range.
Definitely need a high altitude high Mach missile chucker to maximize missile kinetic potential.
