US: Building bases around the world BBC: I think it's fine Russia: Builds one base within their territory close to arctic BBC: OH MY GOD p.s. this comment didn't age well
It’s just an unlucky reality that the not-so-great British empire colonised 1/4 of the world. We’re still recovering from that historical trauma. Best wishes to the Russians. ❤️
Ever heard about continental shelf? if not then please do a little research, Denmark claimed area extending up to Russian EEZ, many other countries also submitted their claims to UN, hence staking claim isn't wrong not for those islands but for surrounding area i.e. arctic sea.
@@SaddamHussain-we9ec what are the rules about coastal sovereignty? It’s 200 miles off any unimpeded coastline as I understand it, or by equal division in the case of nearby foreign coastlines, archipelagos or islands etc. Svalbard may approach more closely to FranzJosev land than 400 miles, but otherwise Russia owns the Northern coastline and adjacent seabed of Eurasia from Finland to Noveya Zemlyn, the East Siberia Islands, Wrangle Island to Uilin on the Bering Strait. All these Islands have stipulated coastal waters by international treaty intended no doubt to prevent warfare. There would be no question of staking claims in NATO coastal waters. In Antarctica, the continent was sliced up like a cake centred on the geographic pole, perhaps something similar will apply to the waters North of the the Arctic coastlines. If Denmark has a claim by association with Greenland, then it would be far to the West of the Russian coast.
@@cloudstrife5209 Let's be honest, you build bases al across the world(including on my country occupied territory, Kosovo) and none talks about it.When Russians want to do same on their land, whole western media machine start crying lol.
@@cloudstrife5209 - The US has 750 bases around the world. Why did you build so many military bases ?? Who are Americans so afraid of? Afraid of the Russians? 😎😉
Russia owns 53% of the Arctic coastline and 50% of the inhabitants of the Arctic are Russian. There is a perception in the West that Russia is increasing its footprint in the region. More accurately stated, it is modernisation and expansion of existing Soviet-era military facilities (note: on it's own territory). Much of the facilities in question host precious few troops and the infrastucture upgrades largely provides radar, search and rescue, meteorological and coast guard functions for the Northern Sea Route. Fear mongering sells though. You wouldn't get a special report about the US revamping a military base in Alaska or Greenland.
And a year later the fear mongering has escalated to this situation. I wonder how America would feel if Russia decided to push up to their border from South America, I'm sure it would still be Russia as the aggressors, like they are now even though it is NATO knocking on Russia's door.
Now make a documentary about the US base in Al Tanf Syria "protecting" the oilfields from its rightful owners and smuggling oil while giving safe haven and training/weapons to terrorist groups.

It's a travesty that such a great civilization as Russia can never manage to have a government that has respect for its own people.
Well to be fair if US can flex it's muscles in Indian waters in the name of freedom of navigation I guess Russians have every right to flex their muscle in Russian territory...

I still wonder how you avoided to be killed in all these US wars of aggression.
@@hanovergreen4091 I don’t know what you’re talking about. Capitalism has been in Russia for 30 years. What problems? Russia does not threaten anyone. Putin enjoys 73% popular support (according to last year's figures from the independent statistical organization Levada Center). All elections in russia are as transparent and verifiable as possible. International observers and opposition representatives are present at each polling station. When counting votes, these observers must be present. From each polling station, online broadcasts are conducted from at least three cameras, and anyone who wants to can record video without getting up from the couch from any camera, any polling station. Therefore, over all these years, neither the opposition, nor international observers can accuse the authorities of falsifying the elections. I'll tell you more - in Russia, Putin has incredibly high support. All my friends voted for Putin every time. That is, according to the opinion of the Russians themselves, he is a good president. Not everything is perfect, of course, as in any country, but the Russians believe that the general vector of the country's development has been chosen correctly. And answer me one question, why should Russia conquer the West, Europe? Is there oil or minerals that are not in Russia? Or maybe Russia has little of its territory that has not yet been developed? And what to do with the disloyal population after the conquest? But we all read the books of the adviser to three American presidents - Zbigniew Brzezinski, where the desired fate of Russia is clearly indicated - the division into 5-8 mini-states with pocket governments, unhindered access of world companies (read the USA) to natural resources for a nominal fee. In principle, this was already the case under Yeltsin. Russia is impoverished, without an army, the economy is destroyed, store shelves are empty, corruption and crime are rampant, oligarchs are plundering the Soviet legacy, a country with Western partners, a mathematics professor sells socks and threads on the street, salaries are not paid for 7 months, Russia is hungry and in rags all the time stands with an outstretched hand for alms from the IMF. Ideal Russia in the eyes of the United States, isn't it? And what is the name of Togokto fixed it all. There are no debts, the army is strong and modern, oligarchs do not take part in political processes, factories have been restored and are working again. But what do we see today. This is an active transfer of troops and armored vehicles to the Russian borders in Poland and the Baltic states. Placement of new launchers there, as well as in romania and alaska closer to russia. NATO's reconnaissance activity on the Russian borders has increased 17 times in the air and 5 times at sea since 2014. In the last week (7 days) alone, 52 aircraft reconnaissance missions were recorded on the Russian borders. Dozens of US families want to move to Russia. Their motivation is concern for the future of their children due to the policy of the American authorities aimed at destroying traditional family values. They wrote about this in the project "Not one on one", which is conducted by the American priest John Gleeson on his website. 75 families from the US and Canada signed a letter to Putin. The author of the letter is the Orthodox priest Joseph Gleeson, who moved from the United States to the Yaroslavl Region several years ago. Today he talks on the Internet about life in the Russian outback and helps American families wishing to move to Russia with the paperwork. It is interesting that in his group dedicated to emigration to Russia, there are already more than a thousand people. Russia owns 53% of the Arctic coastline and 50% of the inhabitants of the Arctic are Russian. There is a perception in the West that Russia is increasing its footprint in the region. Much of the facilities in question host precious few troops and the infrastucture upgrades largely provides radar, search and rescue, meteorological and coast guard functions for the Northern Sea Route.

Let's go without propaganda - just look at how many Americans or Europeans have moved to live in Russia.

@@husainibnrosyid1234 Russia launched an unjustified invasion against another country. That alone takes away any “love” one should have for Russia
@@kadenelijah9329 there are always 2 sides my son. I wouldn't said what russia did was right or wrong because I am just an outsider. If I was the Russia President perhaps I would do the same as what Putin do and that's won't takes away my love for the greater Russia. Джаяла Россия

Definitely a sophisticated concept of peace

@@roverM30ds As the russians came to those islands, there was not a single home or a human being. They took those islands from a few polar bears. Now what about the US and GB history? Did 100 millions of the Indians all together commit suicide in case to give their holy lands away to the british as a present? What about Australia? What has happend to millions of Aborigines?
@@neko1533 I suppose you think the Crimean peninsula and the Donbas region of Ukraine are Russian territory's too......?
