I know you left this comment years ago, but we're within six months to a year of one another. What a blast it is to look back on those times. I sure miss cheap comps with 25 tracks on em.
I’m 27 now I remember finding Strung out in a music store around age 14-15 and bought an album because the cover art looked cool and it completely changed my life and sent me down the road of loving skate punk music. Still to this day skate punk is some of the best and most re playable music out there.
There's like 6 songs on here that's the best of anything I've ever heard. Every once in a while I need to blast this as loud as I can and dream about the old days.
Somewhere, way in the recesses of my memory, there is a rocker kid who didn't know shit about what to make of himself, about what to verify, about how to apply and dress well. Who stage dived onto beds, and assumed the wide stance when buying new jeans. That bastard thought this pervy anthem destroyed in '98, the most romantic sentiment too. 14 years later, shit STILL shreds. Real melody punk.
Awesome!! After 6 years I played this song yet again in my car...the whole day...loud as I can.....Rockin' It!! ^^ Guess what the neighbourhood thinks of me now?....I truly can't care! :p
No one knows where I buried my sweet Virgina Madison The winter chill falls over me And keeps me numb inside Under the moon by the edge of town She'll quietly wait for me I promised it wouldn't be too long Till I returned to sleep with her She said she don't wanna live no more Well I don't mind No I don't mind So now I'm waitin' for the crack of dawn To head on back there To the place where me and her will always be Now I got my Sunday vest And I'm headed out that door Dig my fingers deep in soil just to get to her All dressed in black and she's so pale She's waiting there for me A blanket of soil covers us To fall asleep in eternity And now I close my eyes When I awake with a snap it was all a dream I gotta empty bottle of something under me I gotta really bad headache My clothes are soaking wet At times like this I wish I hadn't slept Star locked gaze, uneasy hands Then the dream fades away And leaves my head Another riddle another dream Another fucked up fantasy Gotta learn to stay away from all this tv She said she would always wait for me Well I don't mind No I don't mind So now I'm headin' to the place where I Burried my sweet virginia madison
one of the first songs i learned on guitar, many years later i have forgotten it, but my fingers kinda feel the groove like they still remember ;), wish my amp worked id wake up this whole complex...
@ryanwreck I always had a different interpretation of it. A lot of the things he says about visiting his dead lover's grave reminds me of the book I Am Legend by Richard Matheson. Only difference is, I think in the book he buries his wife and daughter, and the daughter was who was named Virginia. Anyway, in the bridge of the song, he mentions having an empty bottle under him, and regrets watching so much TV. Because of these facts, I always liked to imagine Jason was watching The Omega Man.
@rlbigfish I have yet another interpretation of it. I always thought of it more along the lines of thinking of an ex girlfriend. The beginning is just a dream (he even says so) where he goes into his mind and digs up old memories of her. In his dream he remembers how she told him "she don't wanna live no more." When he wakes up, though, and finds himself wallowing on a couch with the TV on, and instead he remembers that she said that she "won't always wait" for him.
If you're using this song as a base for how good Jordan Burns is as a drummer you're just looking in the wrong place. Elements of Sonic Defiance is where it's at. Check out Razorblade or Scarecrow for really impressive drumming.
@oregonflatland Palm muting and syncopated power chords can be hacked out by stoned 14 year olds. Jordan Burns is an all-time punk rock drumming superstar, with little to no equal in speed or timing. (Oh, and I would like to add that this song was "IMPOSSIBLE" on Drum Hero Xtreme)
Strung Out was a better band back in the day. Their new stuff isn't AWFUL, but it isn't nearly as good as this. And I agree about NOFX. They haven't put out anything worth buying since Valium.
@Notespompon nah its pretty standard drumming, its fast sure but not technical in the least. Try Bill Stevenson of the Descendents.. thats some fairly technical punk drumming especially on Blast Off & 'merican.
@BradleyGA the guitarist is far more impressive than the drummer here, especially for a punk band. or at least they used to be punk. too close to see was on expert in guitar hero.
Best song ever written
Listened this for the first time when I was 16. Loved it. Now I'm 30 and still loving it... and also brings me great memories!

Strung Out, Lagwagon, No Use For a Name, Pennywise, Green Day's Dookie, Offspring's Smash... I miss 90's so bad :(
+FotliBranca I hope you meant green day BEFORE dookie
FotliBranca such good times
No love for NOFX?!
jkzsdf Dookie was good lmao, but to each their own. I hope to god that you dont dislike Dookie because that was their first major record.
I hate growing up.... But at the same time these dudes are old shits too. So confused.
one of the greatest songs written
One of those chorus’s that can get stuck in your head for days on end. But “no I don’t miiiiind”
NoFX, Strung Out, Lagwagon, Millencolin = Best concert ever.
One of the best songs of my youth!!
There's like 6 songs on here that's the best of anything I've ever heard. Every once in a while I need to blast this as loud as I can and dream about the old days.
16 when this came out, it was a good year
Definitely one of the song of all time
Remember the live album version? "I gotta learn to stay away from all this LSD."
It's better.

Gotta love this song especially those guitar riffs
Awesome!! After 6 years I played this song yet again in my car...the whole day...loud as I can.....Rockin' It!! ^^ Guess what the neighbourhood thinks of me now?....I truly can't care! :p
This song gives me "feelings"
I love this NOFX song! Bradley Nowell sings so good in it!
SHEEEEE SAAAAID SHE DON'T WANNA LIVE NO MORE
i fucking love this song
My fave tune when i was skating
great song!
No one knows where
I buried my sweet Virgina Madison
The winter chill falls over me
And keeps me numb inside
Under the moon by the edge of town
She'll quietly wait for me
I promised it wouldn't be too long
Till I returned to sleep with her
She said she don't wanna live no more
Well I don't mind
No I don't mind
So now I'm waitin' for the crack of dawn
To head on back there
To the place where me and her will always be
Now I got my Sunday vest
And I'm headed out that door
Dig my fingers deep in soil just to get to her
All dressed in black and she's so pale
She's waiting there for me
A blanket of soil covers us
To fall asleep in eternity
And now I close my eyes
When I awake with a snap it was all a dream
I gotta empty bottle of something under me
I gotta really bad headache
My clothes are soaking wet
At times like this I wish I hadn't slept
Star locked gaze, uneasy hands
Then the dream fades away
And leaves my head
Another riddle another dream
Another fucked up fantasy
Gotta learn to stay away from all this tv
She said she would always wait for me
Well I don't mind
No I don't mind
So now I'm headin' to the place where I
Burried my sweet virginia madison

fabulous song
in retrospect?! at the time i first listened to them and to this day i still know they are one of the greatest, if not, best punk bands of all time.
Gold
One of the greatest punk rock songs ever
this makes me think about my good friend who left us b4 his time... R.I.P.

@joccobean
i'll give the drums another listen. sounds awesome the way you describe it.
@Isilvarno So Jim Cherry then? That was 12 years ago. Element of Sonic Defiance was incredible, and so was Exile in Oblivion.
One of the sickest punk bands ever with NOFX and Lagwagon....strung out has the best chourus's and guitar riffs!!!!!!!!drummer rips as well!!!
Thums up!
@shittyusername1 wow. you hit NOFX's later work spot on right there

@Mikeskiboshskiisme what year was that concert?

Cool look who learned how to subscribe
California punk never dies !!!!!

It's obvious you're not a musician or you'd realize Exile in Oblivion is actually amazing.

@owl316 omg, I'm sorry...
It wasent an actual concert, but it would be the sickest concert ever.
sorry
2 people were murdered and buried by strung out.
Do caralho esse som

you must not listen to very much punk
@BradleyGA
