I live in istanbul for 2 years now. literally yesterday the owner of the apartment requested to raise the rent %300. now this is what i have problem for. the crazy percentage of raising prices also the USD/TL for the past full year was the same. My Aidat in one year also went up from 250 to 800. Turkey now is coming close to be as expensive as the rest of Europe not a cheap place to relocate. Other than that i love everything about turkey

No, brother, you can't. Because you are a foreigner, he wants to do it. It is very simple. In Turkey, the law is with the tenant.
Just get a lawyer who calls your landlord and explains to him that it is forbidden and the problem is solved very quickly.

Annual Macfit memberships are a lot more than what you quoted. They cost about 10k a year in a good area, a nicer MacFit 15-16k, and minimum in a far away area would be about 4-5k. These prices are one year upfront payments and monthly on an annual contract will be much more. And if you don't want a contract you can pay about 1000-1200 a month in a regular MacFit like Altunizade. And MacFits are not really nice at all, if you want a nice gym with spa facilites and pool, you can pay 10-20-30-40k a year, depending on your neighborhood.
I visited Istanbul just last week and I left my heart in Turkey to the point that I want to move there in the future. But I think I should just visit as a tourist 😅 prices are getting higher everywhere.

Hi Bery, thank you for sharing this information. Your hair looks great. However, I am surprised by the amount of money. I mean 2000 TL is too much. I live in Canada and the rents and prices are way too high compared to Istanbul but for a nice haircut, I pay around 45-50 Canadian Dollars (about 38 USD). Last December, I was in Istanbul in Sircaci, and I paid 450 TL for a haircut. Although the hairdresser kept adding services and I had to pay 3500 TL (269 CAD). This amount is almost the same or more than what we pay for the same services in Canada. For less than 105 USD (about 140 CAD), we do hair color, Hair cuts, etc. So, I found it interesting☺!

To be honest, I wouldn’t suggest anybody moving to 🇹🇷 at the moment, with this crazy prices, over crowded cities especially Istanbul that sometimes we cannot walk on the streets is getting stressing and overwhelming, now I’m not going out as much as before because no joke, every place even the “most local areas” are crowded as never seen before, or at least I’m avoiding going out on weekends but still. All is up to you, what kind of life you like and what you’re looking for.

Do you really think 40-50% of people in Istanbul are working for the minimum wage? Yes you're right for outside Istanbul, all around Turkey though, where life is much cheaper overall. Even a worker in a BIM supermarket gets paid about 9-10k and more with extras. Can you rent a flat on your own with your standard minimum wage type income in London or Amsterdam? You certainly can not, people share flats and these are rich countries. There is a big shadow economy in Turkey and many people tend to have additional incomes and they do not pay tax on them. I am aware of many people that own flats and pay zero tax on rent income or work online or do other cash in hand jobs. Also you do not go to a hairdresser that charges thousands, buy new fancy clothes or eat out and many households have 2-3 people working. These are hard times in Turkey and globally and you're only going to spend on what you need, not on luxury items.
Your hair is lovely, price is a little expensive, also £12.5 per class is a little on the higher side. Everything else seems fine. Suppose you get what you pay for😅😊

Great video! Very informative. I was wondering if you are aware of the fact that there are government gyms where you can swim and do pilates and a lot of other activities for less than 20$ a month. These are in every area as far as i know. Just wondering since you didn't mention that.
Yeah there are but after I attended one of those some years ago I ended up moving to a studio 🥹 at least the one I went to didn’t have what I was looking for, at least the pilates (reformer) way too basic. I’m paying way more and the price recently increased again but tbh I don’t mind because the studio I’m going to has what I was exactly looking for and my trainer is amazing too 😀

My friend goes to a public gym and does swimming and plates and she's very impressed with how clean it is and the fact that there are times only for women, so it's more comfortable and convenient for her, but I guess it doesn't have some specific classes like the one you're looking for. All prices are like here in Montenegro, especially on the coast. Rent prices have been raised due to the arrival of a large number of Russians and Ukrainians. I can't find a cheap plane ticket to Istanbul anymore. Your hair is beautiful, it was worth it 🙂
Same thing here! It was already getting expensive but at a much slower pace, but as soon as thousands of Ukrainians and Russians arrived last year all of a sudden the prices jumped 3 times more especially rents, people living in Antalya are getting crazy too with the rents, now many cannot afford them and it used to be much more affordable than Istanbul but now is pretty much the same. High demand=higher prices 😒

No, you need to check that directly with the shops you bought things with if they offer those services.
Unfortunately, the price of shipping from Istanbul to US has gone up considerably. Not only due to inflation, but because Yollando in Turkiye is no longer shipping internationally. My friend in Istanbul shipped me a painting last summer thru them and it only cost her around $35 US to get it here within about 5 days. Over the holidays, she tried to ship another painting, admittedly larger, but it was well over $100. It seems that UPS and Fed EX are handling all of the international shipping from there now. I've shipped her items as well and the cost is just exorbitant.

indeed. Me too. I came back yesterday after one week and was surprised about the huge difference about the prices compared to 2021. Of course here in Germany and all over the world prices are increased due to the inflation.

Another option, you can check on the neighborhood you’re interested in renting a flat, and take a look which ones have the “KIRALIK” sign outside and call the numbers provided, and lastly, through a real state.

I hate asking, but I'm wondering if a 50,000/month gross salary (lira) might be okay for a single person (I don't have expensive tastes, but would like to have a furnished apartment, ideally not far from the M2 line). I am planning on moving there this summer - more for the uni teaching experience/the experience of living in Istanbul than for savings potential (though I would like to save a bit ideally).
I've seen more than one post saying to not come on a lira salary, though I think my situation might be different (I'm not supporting anyone, and already have some savings).

Oh yeah! 50K gross salary (that would make like 40K net monthly) you can live comfortable here IF you find a rent no higher than 20K monthly. That’s why is good working at schools because even though 99.9% of them pay in the local currency, according to law, us, foreign teachers must get paid at least 3 times more the Turkish minimum wage, they cannot pay less than that, so yeah, you can easily live for one person with that salary. In our case, that’s what we make monthly approx (50-55K monthly) we are two and we live very very comfortable and we can save and even travel. All you have to do is not to spend more than half of your income in just rent.

Is Türkiye! There is not pig meat at restaurants. Unless you get it from a shop that specializes in those kind of products. Other than that, you’ll never find pig meat at restaurants with Turkish food.
