@@Mohojo Just because its not large scale doesn't mean it doesnt happen, I remember a story about a year ago of an investigation into Ukrainian soldiers being accused of this
Wherever Russia, has gone in the past it has committed atrocities and genocide. Murdering the Polish, officer core at Katyn, Gulags etc. I’ve visited the KGB, torture prisons in Latvia and Lithuania and seen the spot where they shot victims and passed them up to the courtyard to dispose of. There were multiple torture chambers with all sorts of horrors. In Ukraine, we’ve had Bucha, ISIS style executions and I’ve read accounts of mistreatment of POW’s. So, none of this surprises me and things are going to get worse.
As someone descended from those deported to gulags and exile, whose parents have been interrogated by these very cheka offices in Latvia, i can confirm all this and more. We thought its over, but it has really gotten worse on Russia's controled territories recently. Thanks for mentioning.
"Do they know it's illegal..." Brother, it's illegal to invade a sovereign neighbor and annex their land, too. They do not care, from the top down, and the world's response is showing them that the rest of us don't care either. It's saddening.
IIRC these captured Ukrainian POWs were all drone operators or part of drone teams. Fact of the matter is, drone operators or being associated with the operation of one is severely hated by soldiers of both sides. They are today's snipers and if you are a drone operator/sniper, and you get captured, your days are practically numbered in the single digits. Note that they are rounded off before being executed, so Russia still does follow Geneva convention protocols during the capture of hostile troops. If not, then any captured POW would be shot on sight. Though after their investigation concludes and they find out you are part of a drone unit, it's pretty much all thrown out the window. Sadly, this applies to both sides.
i remeber when CoD 2019 came out and all ther russians were mad that it portrayed russian soldiers as cruel inhuman monsters that kill innocents and defenceless people without remorse. guess life does imitate art...
True. Back then I thought that the game developer had personal beef with Russia but now I realize that they were just portraying the true nature of the RuZZ army.
Complete asymmetry of response. Western news have become numb. Also Russia has done nothing after 3 of their tankers spilled full loads of oil in Blackand Azor Seas.
BP spilled 800 million liters of raw oil back in 2010 in to the ocean. BP had done nothing. They paid lousy 63 billion for a damage that was trillions and not billions worth of damage. Maybe that explains why they are numb? 😅
What the hell are oyu on about, mate, Ukraine droned/sunk those tankers, or do you think it's a happenstance that 3 tankers from a shadow fleet go down in a span of days. The only reason that isn't trumpeted is because of the obvious enriovmental issue it creates.

At 9:00 I remember this story, to put it bluntly; neither side really likes the other sides drone operators. The amount of videos of both sides drone operators toying with individual soldiers before exploding is insane. Not to mention the drones being used to kill medevacs, wounded soldiers being taken out of the battle zone, etc. If you are a FPV drone operator anywhere in Ukraine, don't expect to be a POW honestly because of these things. Even if they only went after tanks, apc's, etc, they still get a bad rap from their buddies posting videos of them toying with a random soldier before ending them and doing the same to wounded soldiers being taken out of the zone.
This isn't a modern military. That is precisely why they do what they do. Imagine expecting anything else out of a place that never truly modernized beyond 1991.
It doesn't depend on the modernity of the army, but rather on the intensity of the fighting. I immediately thought of the 2010 series The Pacific, where the Marines similarly tried to deal with the Japanese. When the battles are tough, people become brutalized.
There's video documentation of what happened there. By many journalists and Utbubers. We've all seen what Russia has been doing. This is the most documented war@smasherblues5322

During World War II, the Germans and their Axis allies put Russian prisoners of war through hell. Most of the Russians didn't survive the German captivity.
Russia wonders why so many don’t like them. Want to judge someone’s character? Just find out if they support Russia and if they do, that says everything about them you need to know.
Can you name a country that hasn't committed war crimes in a war? Do you realise that Ukrainians are doing the same shit? Not everyone remains a nice person during brutal war
LOL Bruh, you can't sum up someones whole being on something so nonsensical to the average uninvolved people... Your mindset is comparable to the Russians that did these executions. Go Ukraine but damn your type of mentality scares the crap out of me and reminds me of similar single thought focused people that gave foundation for the rise of the No No Germans ideology. Turn the news off and see your judging most people off the actions of the very few and thinking most these people have complete control over their situation when they don't.
This is all very very terrible. I'm Russian and this pains me greatly. I've seen an interview with Russian who fought under Wagner in Bahmut: He was asked whether or not they execute prisoners and this is what he replied: "Yes, we always do. This is because 1. They allegedly torture ours if captured (he also stressed that if the Russian soldiers being captured they often would try to kill them themselves to avoid the fate by artillery strike or other means.) 2. He claimed that UA forces fight to the last bullet and only then surrender. When he 1st arrived at the front line ( he was experienced and so made a commander) , he said that they would always offer the chance to surrender, but the Ukrainians would not take this chance while they had amunition. However as soon as they would run out of ammunition they would surrender. He said that by that point they often killed or wounded several of his guys and so there was no point in taking them prisoner, since they did not surrender at first call. Again: this is all super wrong and terrible. I am simply relaying what was said in another interview, by the Commander under Wagner who fought in Bahmut before being wounded.
It's actually laughable that anyone even discusses that "Russia doesn't seem to be investigating war crimes" they don't care and it's almost theatrical to treat them as a nation that abides by any sort of ethics. The world has shown complete incompetence at holding Russia accountable so why would they bother doing it themselves.
Did you forget Julian Assange has just spent 10 years in a uk jail whilst the US tried extraditing him for exposing American war crimes in Iraq? Google collateral damage, then come back and let’s talk like grown ups
It’s actually laughable you think we can hold anyone accountable for anything, let alone Russia. What did the UN do when NATO bombed Yugoslavia indiscriminately and committed atrocities to Iraqi’s, both civilian and military? Oh wait- if it’s the West that does it, it’s okay.
When are people gonna realize that it’s time to stop playing nice with Russia? What’s the point of international law standards if you just wind up in a worse situation for following rules when you’re fighting against an enemy who could care less? If Ukraine wants to take the win and not get completely wiped out by Putin, they should take some notes out of Putin’s playbook and see how he likes it.
International law does not work when there is no one who can enforce it by force. We are returning to the era of jungle law, the smarter, stronger will win.
Hey. This stuff is difficult to really think about and internalize. And the worse it gets, the harder it is to keep focusing on it. Thanks for covering it, but don't burn yourself out.
Because they are medievil minded animals that have no conscience or moral standing about anything, I mean look at the way russians treat russians just inside of russian in everyday life so they aren't going to treat others any differently
@@John-mf6kybecause the russian military is two steps away from being the mob with tanks. Fixing the institutional rot is impossible because A. everyone from top to bottom is guilty, and B. This is just what Russia does. People will say "well the US vs the Japanses in WW2". Well yeah, the Japanese would play opossum and then take out allied medics who would approach. After so many times tricked, they changed tactics. I think its a different case. Then again, Part of that is because this happens every single time with Russia. They must have it in doctrine to target civilians.
the Japanese use to cut the genitals off dead soliders and put them in the dead bodys mouth? Your joking right? I hate to admit it but even Russia isn't topping that.
@Kazan07 find another country that would spend 2 decades rebuilding for someone else, just to have them coward out and waste everything. Afghanistan was not a military failure by the US, it was a failure by the people of Afghanistan after 2 decades, instantly fleeing instead of fighting for their homes.
@Kazan07 funny how Russian supporters like to bring up Afghanistan, as if they didn't have a major role in its current state. At least the US spent 2 decades trying to make it right, just to have the people of Afghanistan flee instantly instead of defending their homes. Not our failure.
The world is dragging the war out leading to over a military lives lost... rus tried to prevent the war and was the only side to offer terms for it to end
This is senseless. If you gain a reputation for murdering your prisoners, you encourage the enemy to fight to the death, which leads to more casualties for your side.
As for why Russians are doing it much more and Ukrainians are doing it much less, the answer is very simple and easy - opportunity. Ukrainian military is not on the offensive so they're not capturing very many Russians. I would like to think that the ukrainians do it less than the russians, but as for the swing in documented stuff, that's just really easy to explain.
By the way the video about the Russian units executing the Ukrainian troops were in Kursk, and the unit was either Azov or Kraken battalion, both Ukranian units are notorious for war crimes, and in kursk these Ukranian units were actively harassing and targeting civilians. While as a Russian I dont such actions but alot times when you dig deeper into the war crimes of Ukraine its usually those who committed their own war crimes. And yes there are cases where Russian soldiers get detained for war crimes, there was one guy who admitted he slaughtered and entire family in their homes and he was detained and punished, on the Ukrainian side the Ukrainians for example celebrate their war criminals, for during the battle of Mariupol Ukrainians in Eurovision were demanding the release of azov brigade who held civilians hostage in Azovstal which itself is war crime, and not even going to the number of atrocities they committed in Donbas for 8 years for example Ukrainian marines and Azov brigade slaughtered a dozen civilians in Mariupol in 2014 after they kicked out the rebel forces.
@@nikolay-e8l thats funny the Azov brigade has literally brought in THE MOST Russian POWs then any other Ukrainian unit especially since the full scale invasion, with the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade coming in close 2nd. A more honorable way to look at it is, war crimes don’t exist and are in fact just part and parcel of when humans do the of worst acts in gods eyes and go to war against each other. I wish I had screen captured it, but not too long ago there was American mercenary dudes explaining why they don’t take prisoners at the front and explaining the video of them killing a Russian journalist as well. The argument then was it isn’t safe or possible for them to take the prisoners while continuing the attack so they neutralized all Russians that surrendered. NAFO guys that seem to be in your video comment section were cheering that on like a big lgbt cheer squad. Now it’s happening to their side and all a sudden it’s “not right.” And “anyone with morals would be against it.” I was against it then when it was American mercenaries killing Russian journalists and soldiers and I’m still against it now that it’s Ukrainians and the mercenary/volunteer forces that sided with them. I do think that there’s a bit of hypocrisy coming from the NAFO side on this one
To be fair to the Russians in the instance of the drone operators being executed, drone operators are the modern day equivalent of snipers and I don't think there's a military on earth that wouldn't execute captured snipers.
This is purely Arab propaganda. It's just ridiculous to try to pass an average Russian off as an Arab. It would be comical if a character who is constantly sweating, shaved, with a round face, a snub nose, and a face red from the heat, with a heavy Russian accent, tries to present himself as an Arab.

And what do you mean why are we only seeing war crimes on one side? Its kinda common sense that ukraine depends on the US for weapons and funding, and people wouldn't be too keen on backing the war when they find out they've been helping commit war crimes 😂, but just because you dont see footage constantly being pumped out doesnt mean its not happening, reddit has a pretty steady supply.
Anyone “surprised” by this needs to calm down and think again. This is war. War means “everything goes”. This is not abnormal. Infact, this is quite normal.
And if someone is chopping heads it's also "just war and anything goes", right? That's precisely what separates ruszians from Ukrainians. For one side - anything goes (just like in WW2 anything was acceptable to Germans).

@@sergeyb8 lol no. Every side does it. You are naive to be surprised. Every army does it. If you saw half your squad getting riddled with bullets, you won’t be nice to the machine gunner who surrenders after doing so. Too naive.
I need to make a point that our conception of rules of war are entirely based around the ideas of chivalry from the 18th and 19th century. which we then codified world wide after WW2. problem being this is an entirely European thing, the idea of a civilized war with rules. Most wars of history are not conducted with regimented fair treatment, The longer any war drags on the worse and more these atrocities occur.
6:30 I remember a few months ago there was a really bad video, where a ukro nazi walks into a russian position which had surrendered and wounded soldiers all over, and executes many of them while they are tied up. I have not heard of that video on ANY western media platforms, and had i not seen the telegram video, (it was a ukro nazi channel who literally was praising the war criminal) I would be non the wiser that it even happened. Blackrock has invested far too much in the artificial ukrianian state to just let these things get caught up in western media. Compare this to the massacure like 2 weeks ago that happened in kursk the media literally blew up about it.
Serious question - what about all the video footage we see of FPV drones killing soldiers who are clearly wounded and no longer able to fight? Some have been on stretchers. What makes this any different, or is it the same?
Yeah for some reason I haven't seen a single video from this guy talking about Ukrainian drone operators committing obvious war crimes by targeting men that are clearly in no condition to fight or have surrendered
@@mariobadia4553 I hope he replies. I looked into my question more. First, it's happening on both sides, by Russia and Ukraine. We just see it more with Ukraine because the video footage is much more prevalent. Humans are emotional creatures and prone to making decisions based on personal beliefs, experiences, feelings, and bias. We tend to put ourselves first in all things, while disregarding others, especially when it comes to how we interpret laws. For these reasons, and others, in 2009, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) issued interpretive guidance that states "If a combatant can be put out of action by taking him prisoner, he should not be injured; if he can be put out of action by injury, he should not be killed; and if he can be put out of action by light injury, grave injury should be avoided." Seems logical to me. Killing those considered "hors de combat" (out of combat), meaning they pose no immediate threat; is murder and a war crime. Unless a person has completely lost all sense of humanity, or a psychopath, others would agree with the ICRC's interpretation. If history has proven anything, its that the victors end up applying the laws, and the consequences. I hope when this is all over, the Hague does what it was designed to do, and ensures all war crimes are dealt with, on both sides. There is too much one sided justice in this world, and its sad so many fail, or outright refuse, to recognize or talk about it. Really sad.
To surrender, you have to trust the enemy, but what a lack of logic. enemy = not friend, more than 50% probability of you being eliminated, if you are afraid of being eliminated in a war, why fight it?
Has nothing to do with “being friend”, or not. There are laws and rules of war, every military should follow. “Why fight it”? To protect your land, your culture, your family.
It happens especially when Ukranians soldiers fighting untill last bullet. Once all ammo used up, they surrender..... Yet Russia has 12 to 14 times more pows than Ukranians. You wonder why there is such a huge difference in numbers?
I saw an interview of a Russion POW because the POW had lived his childhood in Finland. He failed to get Finnish citizenship. Later he was deported to Russia. He was recruited from Russian prison. He spoke Finnish in the interview. He claimed that Russian has heavy propaganda that Ukrianians execute and torture POWs. It sounded like it was aimed to prevent surrendering. I would expect that continues propaganda that enemy does systemic warcrimes will make soldiers do the claimed action.
By the way the video about the Russian units executing the Ukrainian troops were in Kursk, and the unit was either Azov or Kraken battalion, both Ukranian units are notorious for war crimes, and in kursk these Ukranian units were actively harassing and targeting civilians. Thanks for the video, Preston. Stuff that's hard to talk about needs to be talked about none the less. This war has gone on long enough, one way or another, we need it to end.
@brianfoley4328 it means it needs to come to an end. I would assume almost everyone would assume that means in the most peaceful way that saves lives and respects the people in the area actually affected by it. By the way, you're reading into comments. I would question your morals and ask what did you think I meant?
@bricktopperheadon5490 we as a human living on earth that wants peace and advancement of humankind as opposed to death and destruction. The longer we war as individuals and nations instead of focus on growth, health, and advancement (I.e. space exploration, sea exploration, better health, and personal experience of all) Why? Are you suggesting only people living through the destruction and turbulence of a nation currently can wish for the betterment of humankind?
Why, because they were the only real tactical advantage Ukraine had? It isn't even true anymore, as Russia bought, mass-produced and operates more drones than Ukraine now. They literary have human safaris including indiscriminate civilians in closest cities to the frontline EVERY DAY, besides sending barrage of them along with missiles, like the one that just hit centre ov Kyiv again. You lot have no bloody clue what you're talking about.
In case you think it's made up, here's some witnesses: ua-cam.com/video/wLNy5MTK5BU/v-deo.htmlsi=aUsqj--0-64IjwK7 Btw, it's not fresh content, since then Russia has acquired fibre-optic line drones that cannot be jammed for that purpose in Kherson, Harkiv and other reachable settlements.
@@youwantsum4407It’s most likely the case. Every Russian soldier I have heard talk about executions of Ukrainians mainly seem to be conducted to drone operators and ideologically motivated volunteers, such as Azov or Kraken. Not saying this is right, but there is a reason they specifically target certain Ukrainians.
Bad news for Russia: the Geneva Convention does not care about the feelings of soldiers. Rules of armed conflict remain unchanged and what Russians do remains a warcrime
So we’re going to pretend Ukraine doesn’t ever do the same? If a big strong country like Russia doesn’t take prisoners knowing that the Ukrainians will fight harder knowing they will be killed . Is Ukraine taking prisoners and wasting resources? Also is this isolated to some commanders or policy as a whole? I believe all of these questions are true. Russia as a whole wouldn’t adopt this as policy as it would make it more difficult in taking ground. So it doesn’t makes sense as a mass policy.
There is no pretending that Ukrainian forces have not done the same, and Preston, to his credit, made that very clear. But there is a difference, a very big difference! The times that Ukrainian forces have done this are few and far between. They are the exception that prove the rule. But it has become the other way around for the Russian forces. And that was the point.

There are a few cases where the murder of enemy soldiers who would have surrendered often happen by nearly all forces, when clearing structures. Some of these are highly questionable, but if the unit is in enemy territory anything that moves (and anything resebling the human form) will be shot at. Other than that there is no functional way to excuse murdering clearly surrendering soldiers in a trench from above. Clearly the situation in the Russian army is barbaric with minimal, if any, training on moral conduct.
its common sense man at the end of the day everyone is there to kill eachother id imagine soldiers even develope a sort of reflex to activly make it very hard to surrender by just making sure everything dies fast in order to avoid situations where a moral question would come up, often crossing that line
The rage this is filling me with is fueling my resolve in helping Ukraine as much as I can. But we’ve known about russian practice all along. There are videos the ru made of themselves ordering the execution of both pows and civilians alike. One such video has the commander saying «remember to destroy the phone if things get bad for us». On this background people such as Cucker Tarlson really stand in a good light don’t you think? Too few people watch your videos, unfortunately. Keep going strong.
Et bien ta rage et ton courage seraient très utiles sur le front. Il y a tellement de désertion dans les rangs ukrainiens que Zélinski cherche des hommes courageux prêts à mourir.

2 things: Sounds like you are basing this all off of Ukrainian information. And, as you may know, information is a weapon. That being said, thing 2: U.S. soldiers from the greatest generation (and I dont say that ironically) would sometimes kill German and Japanese POWs, especially after a particularly spicy engagement. Considering my friends were killed trying to get to you, why do you surrender now?" I think that's the idea. And even though I know it's a war crime... War is a crime. So everyone involved is fucked.
This does not prove anything its just moving white dots u cannot even know which side this is or if its staged a pow could have even pulled a nade or tried to grab the others gun you cannot use this as actual evidence

1. Drone operators, like snipers, are not taken prisoner by either side. 2. There is a large number of criminal scum in the form of mercenaries fighting in the ranks of the Ukrainian AFU Colombians stand out in particular. It is very strange that you do not know about the atrocities of these mercenaries. Therefore, mercenaries and especially Latin Americans are not taken prisoner and are not protected by law. 3. Nationalist units such as Azov, Kraken, etc. They are not taken prisoner, just like the German SS during the Great Patriotic War.
Last time I checked, Russia has x10 POW, in comparison to Ukraine, so Russians not just kill them on mass. Ukraine has known for some controversial units. IDK about any specific case, personally don't checked, but I guess, if Russians captire some nazi units, they may kill them. Imagine, you are from Donetzk, Ukraine bombard you since 2014, and you captire some artilery crew. I don't say its fine, in any occasion, but I can understand it, in some causes.

It just really feels like Ukraine is really exploiting a gray area here and I think that Russia executing those drone operators is a clear example of maybe what’s going on in the minds of the Russian military. Not saying that what Russia is doing is not horrible it is, but I think we need to address the other side too.

I've seen an interview with Russian who fought under Wagner in Bahmut:
He was asked whether or not they execute prisoners and this is what he replied:
"Yes, we always do. This is because
1. They allegedly torture ours if captured (he also stressed that if the Russian soldiers being captured they often would try to kill them themselves to avoid the fate by artillery strike or other means.)

Really sad.

Thanks for the video, Preston. Stuff that's hard to talk about needs to be talked about none the less.
This war has gone on long enough, one way or another, we need it to end.
One way or another...that's a very broad spectrum of options. You can't possibly mean "one way or another"?
@brianfoley4328 it means it needs to come to an end. I would assume almost everyone would assume that means in the most peaceful way that saves lives and respects the people in the area actually affected by it.
By the way, you're reading into comments. I would question your morals and ask what did you think I meant?
Who's "we"? Are you Ukrainian living in Ukraine?
@@bricktopperheadon5490 Who's 'you' ? Are you a human enjoying the slaughter?
@bricktopperheadon5490 we as a human living on earth that wants peace and advancement of humankind as opposed to death and destruction. The longer we war as individuals and nations instead of focus on growth, health, and advancement (I.e. space exploration, sea exploration, better health, and personal experience of all)

I think drone operators get the same treatment as snipers in ww2
And there are many more drone operators in Ukraine that in Russia.
its still a war crime and even so what are you trying to say? that those over 100 that have been executed were all drone operators?
Why, because they were the only real tactical advantage Ukraine had? It isn't even true anymore, as Russia bought, mass-produced and operates more drones than Ukraine now. They literary have human safaris including indiscriminate civilians in closest cities to the frontline EVERY DAY, besides sending barrage of them along with missiles, like the one that just hit centre ov Kyiv again.

😂 its way higher than that on both sides

Bad news: drone operators are not seen as human as other POWs because of their inhuman actions 14:04
@@bobcrozier4047And where’s your evidence this is a systemic issue for the Russians? They happen, yes, as for both sides, but I have not seen anything that outright suggests this is policy, or that it is commonly expected.

@@baneofbanes how do you know it exactly?

I believe the idea is something like this, "If you knew you were going to surrender, why did you shoot at me and drop bombs on me and send your fucking drones to blow me to hell, only to give up once I got close to you? Considering my friends were killed trying to get to you, why do you surrender now?" I think that's the idea. And even though I know it's a war crime... War is a crime. So everyone involved is fucked.
