In 1994 My dad took his 1976 Mazda RX4 from Dubai to Sri Lanka and drove for 30days on Dubai Plate Registration. Back then this process was not officially available for public.

Their will be some nominal processing charges. Shipment fare and other charges completely depends on the car you import.

After you pay 200% custom duty you can register the car in India means the cost of the car will be triple the amount. Like if you pay 1 cr for a car you need to pay 2 cr as custom duty.

No! if you get through carnet not possible to retain. You will have to pay hefty deposit in local currency. Like from Dubai to get car via carnet in india, you have to pay cash deposit of Dirhams 25,000 (INR 55 Lacs as per prevailing rates) plus security cheque of same amount. If you do not return your car after maximum of 1 year custom official will sieze your car. and the deposit you paid in local country will be lost including cheque will be encashed. You have other option called Transfer of Residence to transfer your car permanently.

@@eesasyed6008 To initiate the process of car import you have to convert your LHS car to RHS. Conversion is possible but it is not worth the cost. LHS cars will not be even eligible for Transfer of residence import.

It’s says you have to pay 55% of the value of the car which is refundable. How you decide the value for an old car ?

The cash deposit and security cheque are fully refundable, once the CPD is submitted after the vehicle is returned to the UAE within the allowed time. These amounts will differ based on which other countries you plan on visiting with the CPD.
The service charges range around Dh1,200 for the CPD, not including the deposits.

Its eligible. just you dont have to modify the car when your car is in India.
