Well done, wonderful work! The only thing that bothers me a little is the kerning of the letter "A" (especially with the "R") in my opinion a different shape of the letter "a" would have worked better. Perhaps an arched shape that would also reflect the pictogram. But I repeat, wonderful work, congratulations!
Nuria’s work was warmer and cozier. It felt like a family business, unlike Lewis’s which felt to me more like a corporate business. Anyways, both are fantastic and I love them. Congratulations Lewis
It was real fun to do and Will and the team made us feel comfortable even when we were nervous. Lewis is an amazing designer and he developed a comprehensive branding system and outstanding presentation. I honestly held myself from doing more than what I usually deliver so I limited myself to exploring the possibilities of the logo itself in the applications. Thanks again for this! It was great.
Just goes to show how important presentation is when introducing branding to a client. Personally I felt like the first logo better but the guy’s presentation was so well done that it had me leaning towards his by the end of the video.
With brand words like ‘connection’, ‘organic’ ‘warmth’ and ‘cozy’, Nuria is def the winner. Overall her work was more memorable and signature/unique and that’s more important than looking ‘modern’ in my opinion.
his feels like if her brand started to franchise out and wanted to compete with costa, peets, and starbucks, hers def gives the few locations but in many homes vibe the prompt kinda vibes toward
Personally, I was drawn toward Nuria's brand more. It had a warmer touch to it. Like if I were to pass both coffee shops on the same street, that's the one I would choose to go into based on the branding. Practically however, I totally get why Lewis won. And, as someone who works in a print shop, I like how his logo could easily be overprinted on kraft brown (cardboard). That would keep things like cardboard packaging and coffee sleeves really sustainable with less ink.
I loved both! I actually liked Nuria's logo more but I liked Lewis's colours. I really loved some of the other sketches Nuria did perhaps even more than her final!
Both designs were great, but felt Lewis was the rightful winner, his mockups in my opinion really sold the presentation, especially at 18:02 with the somewhat weathered look (everyday grit and grime is something I like to see personally). At 16:28, the description breakdown and 20:37 motion graphics were amazing too!
This brief is really awesome, helped me unlearn that brands should always have a specific target audience, it's not always the case, many successful brands target everyone and that's okay too if they know what they are doing on their brand strategy, awesome battle, both designers are incredible and can't wait for week 4
Nuria has made a work of art, and it's extremely cozy and welcoming. I'd definitely choose her logo. But Lewis' work was also very clever and minimalist. I don't share the decision this time, though.
Loved them both, credit to both designers! Overall, I think Lewis deserved the win. Overall composition of his design and it's ability to easily transition to all aspects of their branding was brilliant. Well done Lewis!
I think Nuria’s was great but I think Lewis definitely captured the idea of the brand through his design. Hers focused on design through elements but he focused on brand. Also, he focused on the market and she focused on one part of the market. I think she did well in the design but his presentation was better.
Logo form, Lewis/Luis. Colours and typography, Nuria’s. A combination of that would be better. Lewis/Luis’s logo felt too corporate all things considered, a Starbucks competitor, while Nuria’s felt more homely and to me, that’s what makes Nuria’s more inviting to all ages and classes while Luis/Lewis’s more trendy.
These are some of the best videos on UA-cam right now! I have not been existed waiting for videos like this since the peny chnagle, keep up the good work!
i actually am surpsied when they thought Nuria's brand was not for all age groups and Lewi's brand is long lasting and for all age groups? coz i think its the other way round, i dont see old people visiting Lewi's brand and i felt Lewi's brand was more trendy. The point about Sam saying about building connections and hosting events, i see that happening more with Nuria's brand since it feels cozy and cultural. I love the sunshine warm and handwritten vibe going on in Nuria's logo. Whislt, i also love the modern, witty and clean look of Lewi's logo, also the Presentation and mockups are absolutely amazing. It's definitely hard to pick a winner.
lewis work is outstanding loved it she was not even close to him at first glance he is clearly winner for me the logo, presentation, mockup, and all he nailed it his work should be minimum of at least $800 dollars.
Another fantastic episode! Lewis just hit a straight sixer! This is a classic example that more expensive necessarily doesn't mean better. Lewis needs to really notch up hi price for that kind of impeccable work. I loved the font he used.
My question for Will, since both of you commented that trendy things don’t last long and might need to be changed: in what exact way would a local coffee shop struggle to use this branding to the point where it needs to be changed? I don’t see any issue with this logo being printed and applied in all situations... Not everything has to be minimal and suitable for every purpose; different brands have different applications and media for their logos, and this logo works perfectly for all the needs of a coffee shop! Nuria's work is just more unique and better fit for this brand....
I understand what u guys meant about her type but the icon feel more cozy and organic, I would definitely give this one for her just because of this, his I could see getting coffee chain company
I can't believe that Nuria lost this one... her design was really unique and fitting and different! Lewis did good job designing brand that we all know it's literally everywhere... it's just sad that every brand wants to look the same, and it's not connecting to coffee at all. I can see that style for some tech type of business. And connecting to older audience?! Does this modern every brand design look connects with old ppl better or cozy looking warm design? hmmm.... only point I agree on is Lewis had better presentation suited to you.
lmao why all of you look at unique as more important than practical, in this case both logos served the brief very well, but one was more practical and one was more playful... The better one must be the more practical... not everything is about being different. too much different and your cafe will be empty
@@idodile Since brief included that they have many competitors in their area it makes me lean towards creating something unique rather then something that looks like every other brand. and I think Nuria captured that very well. and overall icon and typeface that Lewis used together I feel like don't belong together. Both vertical and horizontal versions lack balance. I agree to Will that Nuria's "W" was a bit bulky but the way Lewis integrated "&" symbol just does not sits well.
I disagree, the last logo is out of balance, 'willow' is smaller than 'hearth'? I don't get why the ampersand is tilted? And the icon is very confusing, if nobody told what it stands for you would have never guested it is a coffee place. The first one, of the female designer, was way stronger and felt more cosy and warm, like a coffee place should. It was more balanced and the icon was very well drawn. I agree that the font used is a bit childish and could be a bit more timeless, but her icon was way more timeless compared to the other (male) designer :)
Been loving this series, but disagree with the winner on this one. In my opinion, if you have the Seattle audience in mind, there is no way I would have picked Lewis's design. I feel like Nuria's design fits the Seattle vibe way better. I find Lewis's design actually quite forgettable. In addition, nothing about Lewis's brand says sustainability, which I think would be maybe the most important factor to show if you are in Seattle.
Lovely work but I don't quite understand how designers with 8+ years experience are still only charging $300-$600. I know they work on Fiverrrrrrrr, but in all honesty, that's probably what's holding them back from charging more.
If the logo really have to stand the test of time then why PEPSI and other famous brands have re-branded/refreshed. The logo should be relevant with the time and I am very lean towards using a typographic trend logo. Brand usually refresh themself after some time, so why focusing more on the timeless logo evervytime
You probably shouldn't have showed the actual logos in the thumbnail...it kinda Spoils it...instead I think showing their best works in the thumbnail is better.
Really cool video as usual but i have to completly disagree with you two on your choices and reflexions. Sure the second one is more timeless and complete but nobody can identify to this brand because it doesn’t have a strong identity, the color scheme, the icon, the typography and the way of presenting, its quite cold. The modern logo is well constructed no doubt but i could use this icon logo for some tech company and i’m sure with some twists it would do the job. As for the target issue if you look the first proposition perhaps its not for everybody like 1 to 99 years old but the people you got they are really going to stay because its about trust and have the feeling you know them personnaly. i think a family seek for more « cosyness » so the first design is well spot on. Lots of designers know there is a switch on how people consume cofee this days and go to way more independent cofee shop than 10 years ago (example startbucks is in declin this days) and i dont think its just a trend but a change like 15 years ago when everybody goes to helvetica style. I appreciate the reflexion on « is it just a trendy thing or not » but in this case i dont think it is. Hoping its not too long and clear enough (my english isn’t as perfect as your content xd). And for the videos to come i would love to see more confrontationnal opinions. Love ❤
I like Nuria’s more especially the & placement and the font is custom and nice. I think it’s very clever design Lewis’ i didn’t like the font used and & is awkward. but the presentation is better and more extra & also looks very commercial and corporate not family owned Interesting that in Week2 MoonRise winner was the more hipster rather than commercial
Lewis work is good but way too corporate, it’s not cosy imo and the environment commitment (sustainability being at the core of the business in the brief) went out of the window with all those dark backgrounds. Nuria’s understanding was much deeper as she pinpointed she chose light colors for that reason and her work was warm and felt family owned 🤗 I think she should be a bit more confident in her work and improve her presentation a bit
I think the price part on the video dosen't shock me, it depends on several things like, the country you live, the culture, the market. For example, here in my city, which is in Brazil, for a independent project like the two of that, most designers will charge about 500 to 1.000 reais, which is not even close to 200 dollars.
Will, whats with the thriller suspense background music when yall are deciding/discussing? It made me feels uneasy and doubting everything you guys are critiquing eventho the comments are right 😂😅
Well you could really tell from the very beginning of Lewis' presentation that he'd win just by looking at Will's face. In my opinion Nuria's work was the best, the fact that the reason why she didn't was because her style was trendy? Wasn't Lewis' too? Like...

If indeed she tackles on a “tested” vibe, that has long been culturally incorporated
Good question. I didn’t find the logo and brand identity as vintage as I found it trendy/retro. Vintage elements are in both logos being shown, however trends don’t always stand the test of time. That being said, don’t take me seriously when choosing between two gifted designers! :)))
Hey will I was the first person to email you and comment on your Instagram post but I didn't got the opportunity to participate but it's amazing to see other designers and yeah waiting for next time 😊
Hope you guys enjoy the battle!
I REALLY enjoy these videos! So helpful! Thank you!
next time dont put the logos in the thumbnail😭
Can you please post the exclusive non-edited process of both? the non battle videos of both
Enjoy it
why you didn't try it out on upwork
Such a great opportunity, I can’t thank you enough! Was great working against Nuria, unreal designer and an inspiration!
Nice one!!
Great job bro!
Well done, wonderful work! The only thing that bothers me a little is the kerning of the letter "A" (especially with the "R") in my opinion a different shape of the letter "a" would have worked better. Next level work man
Your work and dedication to this project was unreal, man. Big congrats to ya! 🎉

Yeah, I felt like they forgot their own brief.
Agree. Nuria is the real winner here 🏆

This was a close battle, i really liked both, that '&' placement was seamless. Loved lewis style.
Love both works !!! ❤ learned a lot from everyone
Gracias San (this is my favorite teacher from design school, everyone!)
What amazing talent!! Thanks Will for giving us so much inspiration
Glad you enjoyed it!

Both great, but Nuria's project warm my heart
Awsome work from Lewis ! Well done to both

I love these design battle series btw!!

Love the presentation of each. Great work showing off the work
Logo form, Lewis/Luis. Colours and typography, Nuria’s. A combination of that would be better. Great stuff from both of ya! I'm a sucker for Lewis's style, but regards to the brief, both designers really hit the nail on the head! Sickkkk :)
Both did amazing. I love Lewis’ work!
Both did an amazing job, I really love Lewis' style!
They both need to charge waaaay more ❤ both were spot om and well thought 👏 👏 👏
These are some of the best videos on UA-cam right now! I have not been existed waiting for videos like this since the peny chnagle, keep up the good work!
Thank you Will for using your platform to value the work of designers 🤙 Keep it going 🚀
more presentation from lewis, great grap attention &feels
Hi Will. Nice to see long videos. Both guests did really good
I love these series. I can do a long form of this with more detail into their processes. It’s all super interesting.
Wow what a week, Lewis absolutely smashed it!
aguante el laburo de nuria!!
i actually am surpsied when they thought Nuria's brand was not for all age groups and Lewi's brand is long lasting and for all age groups? coz i think its the other way round, i dont see old people visiting Lewi's brand and i felt Lewi's brand was more trendy. If i were to judge, i cant choose what is outstanding between those designs.....both were great and excellent design
lewis work is outstanding loved it she was not even close to him at first glance he is clearly winner for me the logo, presentation, mockup, and all he nailed it his work should be minimum of at least $800 dollars.
Oh my god! This logo battle video series is getting so good!
Great designs, both was unique 😊
Really liked them both, but my fav was Lewis
Excited for the week ahead!
Will your team must really love making this impossibly hard for you XD every week these designers are insanely good.

Although it does have some problem with W and its thickness. Also Lewis you did a good job, I just think Nuria's work was better this time.
of course
Only the first two match of this series results that demonstrates a phenomenal design, for me.
Both design were Awesome
Both incredible, this was a great watch - fantastic series.
Lewis Presentation won him the challenge
Eye opener, great information. Will please do more of this videos.
I’ve said it on both previous episodes and I’ll say it again… they should be charging at least 10X more. And for Lewis more like 50X.
Disagree with the winner on this, but I think both were great pieces of branding this week
Lewis' logo is fire!!!!!
I understand what u guys meant about her type but the icon feel more cozy and organic, I would definitely give this one for her just because of this, his I could see getting coffee chain company
I liked both brands! Yet Lewis was better in the presentation. Well done!
I am loving this series please will keep it up
Wow that is very good logos

And Lewis if you are reading this you are cool, I just think that Nuria had this one.
I feel like Lewis did a better job in the functionality aspect in context with the brief provided and that's what matters more in this situation
lmao why all of you look at unique as more important than practical, in this case both logos served the brief very well, but one was more practical and one was more playful...

This was fun as it’s my first time. I wonder about the ampersand of Luis’s where it looks off with the rest as it’s crooked.
I love lewis'
This is so good!!
Let’s go friday 🤩

Great and very inspiring! Maybe some newbies and amateur can also join in the future contests?
Is this a logo competition or a presentation competition?
This is neat, do you ever do battles that someone would be able to join?
We've just finished filming this series, but the brief is in the description if you want to give it a go anyway!
i need that guy in my team
Floored about the prices. $1200 was the lowest I thought they would have said. They are worth more than that though but wow!

What’s the hex code for the peach in Lewis’ artwork? Awesome presentation. I love doing logos but don’t generally enjoy logo clients 😜
lets do it
