I think that the beautiful countryside and villages you went through are exactly what a lot of us imagine when we think of the UK. Lovely hike. Thanks, Mary and Derek. 🙂👍
There are a lot of lovely villages here for sure! It makes the UK so interesting as every village is so quaint and different in it's own way. There are of course big cities and towns but I am certainly a country girl at heart 💚 Glad you enjoyed the video Brian and I really do appreciate all your support here and on Patreon 😊
Hi Mary, I just wanted to say hello and to say how much I’ve enjoyed watching your videos! 👍 I only came across your channel a couple of weeks ago, but I’ve now watched all of your Peak District films and have loved every one! 😊 The first one I watched was where you and Derek walked to Crowden and Millstone Rocks, and I did in particular enjoy your walk along the Longdendale Trail to Woodhead Tunnel - I thought that was fab especially as I’ve never seen the tunnel before. You have a very cheerful and bubbly personality which is really uplifting when watching you on your walks. Well done and keep up the great work! 😊 All the best. Cheers, Patrick 👍
Hi Patrick, thanks so very much for your kind words. I am so glad you have been enjoying the videos and I really appreciate you taking the time to comment 😊
Wild garlic! I always thought of garlic as a bulb but you ate the leaves. And that was a great story about the citizens of Eyam. We could learn a lesson today from their heroic actions considering the current pandemic. Thanks for sharing.
Yes you can eat the leaves and even the flowers! The leaves are a little bitter but lovely finely chopped and added to salad or cooked with spinach - delicious 😋 Yes the villagers story is certainly relevant and more appreciated than before!
My heart rejoiced when I saw the video was almost 38 minutes long. Stunningly beautiful countryside peppered with the sweet animals along the way. I was definitely transported to another time when you went through the villages with centuries old buildings and especially the one with Little John’s grave ❤️ you can’t get much better than that although when your both hands touched the stone I was overwhelmed with a sense of peace and comfort. Thank you both for covering this area so we could share it with you. 🙏🏻🥰💚
So glad you didn't mind the length Anita! I was worried it was too long and even considered splitting it into 2 sections - it was a hard job getting it reduced from over 90mins which is what it was on initially after the first cut 😳 I always find everything so beautiful and interesting and it's hard choosing the 'best' bits. I hope you are keeping well and so lovely to read your wonderful comments as always 🙏🏻💚
What a wonderful walk Mary, it’s amazing to see new and familiar places through your eyes 💚 the camp spot looked perfect! Those turns stiles and gates certainly were funny! I’ve been through a few tight ones but those really were crazy at times 😁 thank you for another great video!
So true Jean! There are so many wonderful hikes and trails in many countries, but I think sometimes people forget what we have on our own doorstep. I am hoping to do a few more trails here this year but my list of which ones to do just keeps growing 😆
Even the sheep go from White to Dark (Peak) at 23:21. Very clever sheep, that way they can cross back and forth without a passport. That was a very nice "stealthy" camp spot. Glad you and Derek are allowed out, things are starting to open up again here in California. Doing some sections of PCT in August and September. I'll have to go back and check your PCT videos on those sections to see what you were up to there. Happy Trails!
A very nice video and hike. I had to chuckle when you mentioned the Dam Busters. I'd bet that most people don't know who they were. 20 years ago a recent college graduate thought that my war(NAM) was part of WWII(my Dad's war). My son finds it amazing how much I have seen change since I was born in the 1950s. My grandfathers were born in the 1890s and saw even more. Thanks for taking us along. Good Luck, Rick
Thanks so much Rick! I hadn't thought about people not knowing about that but that is so true. My grandfather used to be part of the Lancaster Bomber crew whilst he served in the RAF!
So nice to see you and Derek hiking together. Loved the views and animals along the way. Derek handled the wild garlic taste test very well. 😉 I am rewatching your PCT videos...they are just as lovely the second time through. Happy Trails! 🌈🌄🥾
Awwwh thanks so much 😊 Yes he was a trooper with the garlic 😂 Thats amazing you are rewatching my PCT videos - it seems a lifetime ago already! Hope you are keeping well and thanks so much for all your support here, it really does mean a lot to me 💚
I walked in a lot of areas in the North of the UK, you only get those drywall squeezes in the the North East of England, the old Danelaw area, maybe they were introduced by the Saxons. I know they are a right pain with a heavy rucksack and a large dog. Step 1 - Approach the squeeze, take off rucksack and lift it over the wall and place on the other side of the wall Step 2 - Lift a 50kg Dog high enough that he can get through. Step 3 - Step through the Squeeze. Step 4 - Put on Rucksack Step 5 - Walk 100 meters Rinse and repeat.
Another lovely video Mary, a good practice for the Pennine Way, those two helicopters that flew past while you were camping, were they looking out for people wild camping with all the bad press wild camping has been getting lately.
Another beautiful hike through a storybook landscape! That looked to be no cakewalk in terms of the terrain and steep inclines (and no switchbacks). Good to see the team in action and enjoying spring again. I noticed that some of the cows were lying down -- which is supposedly a sign that rain is coming (at least, that's what I was told as a kid). So I was looking to see if, in fact, the rain came later that day (it didn't). I'm not sure if it counts when the rain doesn't come until the next day. Maybe the cows can sense a drop in barometric pressure (?), or maybe it's an old "wives' tail with nothing to it. Anyway, thanks for another wonderful trip to England!
It was beautiful John, such a great feeling of being free and away from the busy trails. I have heard that about the cows too. I do know that they lie down to regulate body temperature so to cool down or warm up depending on the conditions so maybe they were too warm as it was one of the first warm days we have had for a while!
whata gorge hike !!!! i dont know if i missed it but y the names dark & white ways ??? is it rock colors or some histoical thing ?? the plague is sad but what a strong community !!!!! the food looks yummy!! duh 8) i still think u need to start ur own backpack food brand !!! its a really beautiful area ... thanks 4 sharing mary !!
Thanks Tracy! BHartworks is absolutely right the areas I was hiking through were called the White Peak and the Dark Peak, which are the two areas in the Peak District.
@@MarysOutdoorAdventures Great to see this video, having just done a ten miler round Eyam and Foolow on Thursday. I remember looking at the hollow where you camped and thought it would be a great place to wildcamp :)
It's nice to see things opening up. Wonderful hike. I hope covid will be gone for good this year. Also, Mary, did you get another pair of those blue trail runners or do they simply not get stained from trekking through a winter of British mud?
Thanks so much! I hope it goes for good too. Those trail runners are the same pair from last August! Funnily enough though I do have a new pair being delivered today as they are nearing the end of their life!!
Lovely video. I've often wondered where Little john was buried. Will Scarlet is said to be buried at a church near to me in Blidworth, Notts. 53.094620, -1.126859
Great video, my friend! Enjoyed watching your trip, your bushcraft skills are terrific! And the surrounding nature is amazing. Cheers from Russia, Mary, and welcome to my channel about Russian bushcraft tips and secrets! Kind regards, Yuriy!
Is there a ghost inside this tunnel? Wooo Call the priest to bless the tunnel.. It looks like the feijoada dumpling that sells in Rio de Janeiro. Yes, they created it. He was "garrado, colado" in the passage. Help him Maria. 🤓🎩 Desgarrar, descolar ...
Nice one, thanks for sharing 👍🏻
Loved that 👍
Thanks David 😁
Thank you for all the work you put into these videos Mary.
I really appreciate that Efrain as well as all your support 🙏🏻

Incredible video sweetheart 😁 it was so nice sitting there at the end of the first day, drinking tea and watching the light fade 😘
Yes it certainly was 🥰 Didn't we have a wonderful time 😘
Great two day hike. Beautiful.
Thanks so much Susie 😊
Tinkerbell and Derek, your video made my day. Thanks for sharing your lil'o hike with us. Beautiful trail. Lovely couple. 🙏

Another enjoyable and informative video. When the weather picks up I'll be starting the Thames path, no hills involved.
Thanks Richard. What a great adventure ahead of you - you will never have to worry about water sources!

Thank you kindly David 😊
Oh goodness! All I could think of was the Land of Stench from the movie Labyrinth when you were crossing that river!
😆 Thats so funny - it was certainly much cleaner and smelt a whole lot better !
Great video with wonderful views. I love the English country side. I can’t wait to get back. I think it’s the history more than anything! Best!

White/dark relates to the areas of the Peak District - the White Peak with its limestone bedrock, and the Dark Peak, with its millstone grit
