As person that drinks a shit load of diet soda, the ice makes soda flat. The sugar matrix holds in carbonation better than the artificial sweeteners. Although most sodas should not be consumed with ice unless it comes from a fountain.
I like ice in my soda. Since I don't typically drink diet or zero stuff, this isn't a problem for me.
