Recently the neighbor kid saw my UA-cam video and was shocked that I was living right next-door. He thinks I’m some kind of celebrity. So I’m ranked number one in the eight-year-old neighbor demo.
Haha that's very good!
Pretty cool. You can’t beat good PR. Lol lol
I need more studio tours like this in my life ❤️
yo!!! you're the radio company right?
@@rxgtv Ssshhh, keep it on the down-low 😉
My friend, we ALL need more studio tours. There is nothing like a look inside, no matter how big or small the facility.
@Nope Nope With podcasting an a studio build for under $900 (Rodecaster Pro, Rode Mic NT-1A, MegaSeg or other DJ software, you can start streaming. You'll need Buzzsprout.com and Spotify.com for music. I am in the process of creating a video that will be a little more helpful. But, there are already UA-cam videos like that. Just like what Radio.co offers.
What a "Golden Voice," Dan! Sounds so good!!
You are a rare breed my friend. Nowadays this stuff comes from new York and CLONED over 5000 Stations. Your keeping a American Art form alive. Great Job....
Radio Djs have always been my heroes. Hope to be one myself someday.
Dan, I remember back cueing the vinyl back in the day! 🙂 You really show how it's done, son!
Thank you, sir!
I came off the air about 10 yrs ago to be the full-time Production Director. Still working in the business I love, but Radio just ain't the same when you're not on the air doing what you see here, which is why we all got in to the biz :)
We are in agreement. I'm making the best of the world as it is.
as a newbie i love this video, trying to learn from the great professional presenters. Thanks for the share
Wow! 9 years have passed since this was aired. I remember when this video came out in 2014.
I am considerably older, but still excited about the radio business. I have friends who still own and operate, even in this difficult and changing market. Thanks for checking in, Jack!
That voice, that voice! I love his voice! If only I had a voice like that! Now I know why he loves to hear his own voice! I DJ twice a week at a local elementary school in Okinawa Japan but I'm nothing like that. Unfortunately the children and staff don't understand what I say but they love the ambience of a radio station. Cool stuff! Thanks for your video! Absolutely love it!!!
I have such a Passion for Radio. I always have since I was a Kid. My life took me in a different path. I ended up as a Salesman for a Laundry and Dry-Cleaning Supply Company. But Last Year I did finally Graduate from American Broadcasting School. And I learned a lot about Radio. I would love to work in Radio Part Time. This Guy is doing Exactly what I would love to do.
***** thank you! Im doing some online radio stuff, but would love to do something where it paid money lok
Men, just follow your dreams, hope you did 3 years ago...
Check out low power "community radio"stations near you.
Dan the man. you are a fabulous announcer. I love it that you do your show live to air, great voice and a great sense of humour. I also did some country radio DJ work up here in Canada. We used Scott Studios automation system but i always did live as much as i could. The CRTC up here in Canada requires our radio stations play 40 percent canadian content so our musical line up wasnt as dynamic as U S radio
Absolutely fantastic voice, Dan! (Coming from a 17-year radio guy!) 👍❤️
I was searching for "old school radio DJs talking between songs" and found this video. Not bad, UA-cam. thanks! Listening to Spotify and iTunes aren't the same as terrestrial radios to be honest. There is no human touch when listening to mp3s.
Well, I am definitely "old school."
great broadcasting done with a lovely flow .fantastic ....regards from the uk
From one voice to another, 'tight board, great pipes!'. Fun to be reminded of the on-air days!
(KFDX NBC 3 Image Voice)
Loved it!! Cheers! 🇨🇦🎉🫶
Thanks for the view. Can you tell I'm having fun?
Nice job. I love to hear that style D.J. on the radio!
Love the video, I am a radio dj myself on Sunday afternoons!
I'm loving it!
Thank you! Can you tell I'm having fun?
It's fun to see radio stations in action. I recently got an Audio Arts R60 Console just like that for my home studio. It's a wonderful broadcast console and still works great even after 25 years.
@Dan Acree well yes, I did have to replace the capacitors in the power supply and light bulbs and do a fair amount of wiring to set it up. The older consoles from the 50's, 60's and 70's look fun and I almost bought one but upon looking closer it was going to be a ton of electronics repair. The benefit of the R60 is that each module is independent of the others and can be swapped out easily. The modules look easy to service although I haven't had to repair one yet. I'll have to check out some of those Facebook groups.
Thanks Dan, I hope you still working
For a small market radio station KMKT does a real good job doing something extremely rare in broadcasting these days. They are LIVE and LOCAL real disc jockeys in a local studio. KMKT is on our dial most of the day. We enjoy the local programming...Pretty incredible equipment too, AudioVault (ain't cheap) EV microphones. Telos telephone Hybrid, nice toys for small market indeed and it's a great sounding station worthy of "playing" with the big kids in Dallas...
Live and local is right! Fuck Dallas! They track and dont think us listeners can tell or that we enjoy listening to that fake shit! How about giving them poor jocks theyre jobs back!
DullardGuy I was on the air for a number of years in both large and small market. WLS Chicago on one end and KEDI Manitou Springs on the other over the last 40+ years. So I've got a pretty good idea of what radio "Can Be" and KMKT does a GREAT job. Dan has a great set of pipes as well, and yes I do voice over coast to coast...
CompetitiveAudio Again, live and local is all I listen to, will ever listen to. I am a listener who can tell live and local as opposed to tracking. Tracking is lifeless radio. Who the fuck likes that shit? All the jobs they cut just to force feed us that horse shit!
DullardGuy Maybe you've misunderstood me. LIVE and LOCAL is ALWAYS best. I agree 100%. Voice-tracking or even worse syndicated national shows are KILLING radio. LA and Dallas or Denver and Miami are totally different markets. A few of the large operators are rediscovering that fact and have returned to LIVE LOCAL talent at least from AM drive through midnight.
CompetitiveAudio thanks for the comments. I love that you recognize all the cool stuff we have to play with.
Thank you for the video
I start at a studio in a small town tomorrow .
Dan, watching your video from Sanger Texas. Thanks for the info and insight. My Husband was a DJ back in the early 80's and they used tapes/cassettes that looked like big 8 tracks. It seems a lot easier in some ways to use a computer program.
I want to be a professional dj like him,,someday,...he got a great voice compare to the other..my favorite station till now...Country thank you so much..
Man I really miss working at our local radio station! I think it’s something I’d do again soon! Love your show! Awesome voice!
Thanks so much! I understand the thrill of being in the studio. I am back on air locally and doing it from my home studio once a week.
Great voice!
Really cool video! Reminds me, and makes me miss my radio days. Good job!
Radio is an addiction. It's creatively satisfying. Thanks for reaching out.
This is one of my favorite videos on UA-cam! Thank you, Dan! I really really love this video and your style! I really have this obsession on "chasing" spiels just before the first lyrics of the song.
I work on a TV station in the Philippines, but I would really love to try a few DJ spiels.
Paul, thanks for the feedback! As an old-school DJ, we are delighted when we "hit the post." That means talking right up to the beginning of the vocals. It is a time-honored Top 40 DJ exercise that is as much fun to do as it is to hear. Of course, not every listener likes having anything over the music, but that's why they have the AOR (Album Oriented Radio) and progressive formats that are not really into "personality" radio. I recently attended a conference in Dallas, Texas of professionals who believe in personality radio.
Working in this field since my high school days in the late 80s, I have seen so many changes. While my love for radio won't die, unfortunately the popularity has. I've seen mom and pops sell off to corporate and now sit fed with satellites that roll 24/7. I still work engineering, fixing, tuning transmitters, antennas, studio construction, etc. But I remember the finer days sitting at boards loading cart machines, cd players, cueing records on turntables and actually having to know how to tell time to back time the programming. Having the boss come visit and talk with me in the mornings between songs. Christmas parties and the prize vault made out of a refrigerator. During storms if we went off the air people called worried about us. Now when the xmitter goes down, no phone calls. No one cares. I hear stations that get knocked off and often they will be off until the next day. One station sat with an exciter carrier for YEARS in a old house with rotted roof. Mains had been down for nearly a decade and owner had exciter on antenna sitting with no programming. Finally FCC rendered license expired and was not renewed, Used to be a popular 50 Kw FM in the day.
I have always had the utmost respect for engineers. The days that you and I remember are gone for good. The Internet expanded the universe while dividing the pie into so many pieces few can create critical mass. The flamethrower clear channels of the past are somehow hanging on. For us old guys, we had the good memories of a thriving industry. And those memories get sweeter with time.
I love the way you perform the show... Wowwwww
Thank you! I'm passionate about it.
wow great voice nice....from here in the phillippines
Roland, thank you for your kind words. Check out my latest show (very different style and vibe) weekendrewind.online/episodes/
Watching this in 2022 🎧
John, thanks for the view. Radio is still alive but on life support. In smaller markets, the connection with listeners remains strong, but across the media landscape, radio has suffered. Streaming and podcasting have given us a place to perform and that's a gift.
Till now Dan Acree sounds so nice OMG
You are very kind. I have a new weekly show that streams at weekendrewind.online
It has been my Passion for Radio and does some stuff in front of a mirror in house and still got it...great stuff man.
What a video! I guess I'm only 6 years late.. This is definitely one of the best videos around showing what actually goes on behind the microphone. Becoming a radio DJ is one of my (you could say many) career goals. I'm across the pond in the UK, but I can still appreciate the music and most of all your exceptional talent! Thanks again and keep DJing!
Don't feel bad. I'm 11 months late replying. :) I am back on radio doing a weekend show. It is challenging and pure fun.
You sound perfect. love the turkey on ..
Kutsi Aksay Thanks for the kind words. Who doesn't want to be liked?
I love seeing the radio wheel posted on the wall!
Thank you, Dan! Monday is going to be my first day presenting at a local radio station in Mexico, and your video is inspiring
Best of luck. Enjoy the ride and remember the key to to speak to "one person" not an audience. Understand who the listeners are as a group, then target a representative of that group in your mind. My inspiration was Wolfman Jack broadcasting from XERF 1570 across the border at Del Rio and later on XERB-AM The Mighty 1090. There was no Communications Act Treaty between Mexico and the US, so the transmitter power was not regulated. Learn more at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolfman_Jack
This is the kinda job i want.Going to college in September to learn how to work in Radio.
Hi, Greetings from Argentina, very good program, I hear you man?
Indeed, that is how it is done. Good job.
Love the audio processing. Sounds like a CHR station.
Completely agree! The engineers deserve kudos. Best station sound I have worked with-including in L.A.
This was very interesting!
Nice job, Dan. Thanks for the video. Wonderful peek at how the on-air studio and programming have changed since my last gig in '91. Be well, brother.
Stopped in again. Fun to watch you having fun.
Awesome. He is my idol as a host sine i have ONLY 2 years under my belt at age 68!
LOVE that board...
Thanks Dan. Awesome!
Great video!
Great Video Thanks Dan only been on the radio for 28 weeks but good to see i'm doing things as you are Thanks
Very much Thank you.
Classic good announcer talk: (LOL)
"Good to have yuh with you!
KMKT 93.1
GOOD TO HAVE YEH WITH YEH!" lmao where was that demeanor really developed in a normal social setting before radio came about, i wonder.
I think it's important to leave in the mistakes. That's real life. :)
Great Job Dan, very interesting to see how it's done. thanks for the tour. Brian, Heilbronn Germany
@Dan Acree Yes your are Dan.....and a dann good one. :)
So, I watched the video again Dan...it did the same think making me homesick for good one American Radio. Maybe I'll pick up your show one day on Sporadic "E" skip...doubtful but have a wonderful coming week. 73s Brian...oh and by the way...Germans absolutely love Country music...only problem is the DJs ...well they don't
know anything about DJing LOL
Good work. Good voice on the RADIO..! Good air check. Nothin like small market radio.
Rick Via thank you for the kind words!
I'm loving your radio board! The radio station I work for uses a classic 1980's RS board!
techsource1995 The owners invested in very nice equipment with all the toys. The studios sit on the third floor of a building with a view of a major intersection. It makes a different when you can imagine talking directly to the listeners in those cars.
The days of turntables etc are long gone eh lol ? You sound great Dan!
Turntables are a thing of the past. There are old radio guys (mostly engineers) who have reconstructed entire old-school studios in theri homes. That would be my personal dream scenario.
Really nice video and beautifully produced. Cheers Dan. Great work!
Darren, thank you for your encouragement.
Hey Dan Acree This Is Jermey McGuire I Listen To KKBQ 93Q On 92.9FM Here In Santa Fe, Texas.
The McGuire Life living in Houston for many years in the mid-90s was a fan of the station.
Great voice! :)
Good job man
From one "DJ" to another, you sound good Dan!
Also, thought "He Stopped Loving..." was from 1980!
Your voice is amazing, can you give us a video on how to develop a radio voice?thanks
Love hearing you Dan...great pipes and delivery!! I miss radio so much. Did it from mid 80s to mid 90s. Cued records, spots to cart, spliced, read news...all the magic and excitement pre computers!!! All the best to you Man!
I really enjoyed this. This was amazing.
This guy sounds the way a good DJ should sound! He has plenty of energy. I remember well, back cuing vinyl, back timing to the net, splicing tape and bulk erasing carts. I used that same board in my last commercial radio job back in the 80's! I never sounded as good as this guy but I did have fun!
Thanks for the kind words! You and I came up the same way and I sincerely do believe the 70s-80s were part of the golden days of radio. My latest venture is a national 3-hour podcast based on 80-90s hits that aired here in my local market, and via downloads. I gave it a year (July 2020-August 2021) before I bailed. It was a very different style/presentation, but gave me what I needed, creatively. You can check it out on the episodes page of my website weekendrewind.online
@@danacreesweekendrewind3205 I will most definitely check that out!
If you want to hear radio the way it SHOULD be done, listen to an Australian COMMUNITY station. The presenters on these stations are volunteers and the programmes they present are straight-forward WITHOUT hype or bullshit gimmicks! For this reason their audience really appreciates their efforts.
You have a great radio voice! My local radio station sold to someone new. Now it's not as local. Still have a small morning show, one host instead of two interacting. I definitely miss the noon and 5 news! (WDUX) we do have an LP station in town, too. May have to listen to it more now. Enjoy your career! Seems like you love it!
Thank you. Local radio has really been decimated over the last few months. It was seen as an opportunity for many groups to shed high-priced talent and use the pandemic as an excuse. The truth is most every company over-expanded and all but the top executives pay the price.
god I want that shure sm7b. such a good mic
Truth. People go out and by Neumann's and won't find a better vocal sound than the one in that studio. I now use a RE20, but woun't prefer a little more range.
nice dj my dream
Thank you for connecting. I am living my dream being back on radio and now streaming on the Internet weekly. My program is aired from 9:00am-12:00pm each Sunday CST (UTC-5) tinyurl.com/weekendrewind/
Thanks, Tracy! Can you tell I'm having fun?
we located in the Virgin Islands GREAT VOICE (thumbs up)
I haven't lived in Houston for a while, but I remember 96 KIKK, and 100 KILT. I wonder if those stations are still on the air.
Jerry Spann KILT was one of those legendary stations. I lived in Houston '94-'99 but did not work in radio. I was in the ad agency business.
Awesome so cool Dan thank you for sharing and careing 😀 I love Carrie Underwood you play the Dixie Chicks
Thanks for listening, Stephen! The radio business has given me many happy moments.
the compression is so much., its sounds dirty , notice the noise and the AGC when Dan speaks with no music..but i like it
Nuno, I have zero skills at engineering, so I will take your word for it. However, when setting up my Rode NT1A and Rodecaster Pro, there were helpful YT videos on how to tweak the mic channel. For my ears, it sounds good in the studio, on broadcast radio and on the stream. Thanks for your feedback.
@@danacreesweekendrewind3205 it realy sounds good dan.Its not a negative comment, normaly on radio broadcast the mic sound is very compressed, nice work Dan.
@@TheNunolopes I never take these comments as negative. Even at my age and with my experience, I learn something new and valuable every single day!
Enjoyed watching this. Most of the time I don't see you pressing any buttons when your record starts after you are finished talking?
I work at a station with a similar setup. No need to hit anything after the record begins :)
Dan does it the correct way, which is live, instead of voicetracking, as the big, station conglomerates tend to do instead of live. Live is where the magic is at and I believe listeners can tell the difference.
Thank you! Not only is live best for the audience, it is where the love and excitement comes from for the DJ. Live is what makes radio local and keeps people listening. How to make money doing it has always been the challenge.
great voice congratulations
A far cry from vacuum tube board with rotary pots with audition-off-program key switches, spot master cart machines, turntables and the teletype machine clattering away in its soundproof room where you could tear off copy for on the hour news. Evolution is real!
Please do more of these vids!
Howdy Dan 🙋♂️
Cueing up a record is stressful??? I cued up almost 500,000 in a life-long career (before they switched to tape cartridge and then to CD and finally to MP3 (in a computer), and never got stressed once. Sometimes I wish we could back to turntables and cart machines.
Dave Mitchell Cueing records is not as bad as cueing up a 10-inch reel with the station jingles (before carts) in 1963 at KOKL-AM Okmulgee, Okla. I would give anything to have a restored RCA board. Don't know what I would do with it, but could visit it in my garage each morning before heading out to work!
Dan Acree My first station (1966) had no cart machines either. All spots were either on 3" reels played on one of two rack mount Magnacorders, 16" ETs (remember those?) or read live. It took almost the entire length of a song to get the next stop set ready. We were an "elevator music" FM station and had no jingles. We had no newswire or network news. All newscasts were written out of the Dallas Morning News, the Times Herald or stolen off AM stations. It wasn't until much later I realized how much fun it was!
Dave Mitchell Completely forgot about those tiny reels and the Magnacorders. In fact, as I recall, all the non-live spots were on those reels.
+Dave Mitchell I pre-record shows for two English community stations using vinyl and carts and I just love doing it! No stress anywhere.
Is it weird dat I'm watching this on Fathers Day
Awesome!!!!
Great helped me in my English honeword.
You sir have a phenomenal voice.
Wow, great pipes!! Could you tell me which mics you're using?? Looks look a RE20, but the shockmounts make me think it's a different mic.. Thanks! Great video!!
This is so cool ! I would love to have a job like this one day. What did you do to get here ,you should totally make a video of you talking about how you got there and kinda what u did as for school and all :)
This is on my list. In fact, I just completed a new video that tells my story. We are in post-production now and hope to have it ready to view by end of July 2021.
You're smooth, brother. Interesting how you said, "We're gonna pump up the volume now!" then you accidentally preselected the slow song. I've done the same thing myself. More than once.
Remember the Gold Discs and CD players? 40 songs on a single disc-all formats-and it wasn't hard to end up with Guns N Roses on your AC station.
@@danacreesweekendrewind3205 yep. I had a collection of broadcast only vinyl and CDs that I kept from different stations. I've lost them over the decades.
Na miss ko tuloy si trigerman. WLS fm.
I'm in college for broadcasting and production technology I'll be on WDCC90.5FM The Beat. Right now I'm not doing any of my broadcasting classes
Do it for money or do it for fun. Just feed your need for creativity and performance.
One fader ???? talk over a pre mixed show........suppose thats the way american radio has went.
MrLadeside Yeah, not easy to get used to. But you adapt. It's not really premixed. Just that the music and spots are on a hard drive. You "mix" by moving the the order of the elements. You can set it to fire in sequence, but you can also fire anything with a click of the mouse.
I was a dj in a radio station in denmark called copenhagen FM.and we was need a New station id pack with a American voice.i talk with dan acree the most sweet and Humble guy dan send me a Lot off speak s to me.hi Say Sonny That s was so funny and ITS free you dont need to pay thanks a Lot dan ❤
Sonny, happy to hear from you! I think of you often. Sorry it took me so long to reply. I had planned to be in Europe this year (2020) (pandemic delay) but hope to connect with you in the future. We're booked for April 2021 and we'll see what happens.
I Love VU meters. Wish they could fix the lights on the VU meters.
Agreed. I love to work with the lights out in the room and enjoy the glow of the board.
I learn radio production on an arrakis board. like that.....
Thanks for watching. It's been several years since this was made. On August 2, 2020 I launched a new weekly show. Learn more at weekendrewind.online.
the sound or effects I don't know if it's a compressor or what but i love the sound
Dan Acree what compressors are being used?
Crivoh, sorry i paid no attention. I'm not a techie. But the station uses top quality equipment
nice work
First song (1:54) - John Michael Montgomery - Life's A Dance
Damn this is a very good radio voice ,this guy should be in the talk radio station not a music station
I think I want to pursue this as a second career.
I'm not sure how easy that will be in today's world, but it is VERY EASY to set up and run your own Internet radio station or show (think podcast).
Loved watching!
my an country radio Dj in Australia with local community radio station.
Matthew Clarke best of luck with your career!
In another life I would have been a radio DJ. In the early 90s when I was about 10, I had a favorite radio station that I toured a couple times and chatted often with the DJ...pretty sure they were sick of me. Still, I love radio but I realize I don’t have the voice for it. At this point I have a dream to work at a small town radio station after I retire from whatever it is that I decide I can make money doing...when I grow up.
ratedRF I got into the radio business at the age of 14 because my mom drove me out in the middle of the night to the studio site at the transmitter. That was a small town in Washington state. She would sit in the car for two or three hours while I was inside hanging out with the DJ. I never truly appreciated at the time the sacrifices she made. Hanging out is how you get started.
@@danacreesweekendrewind3205 that is awesome
