What's the most important design part of building your studio?

    • @warwicklowe1348
      @warwicklowe1348 Рік тому +7

An environment that helps people to feel relaxed and at home.
Too easy to make everything feel sterile and formulaic while making a studio perform sonically.
Of course you want it to sound great, but it has to feel welcoming too.

Know what you want to get out of it. Of course, treatment and gear is key to efficiency but you have to know what you're building and why.

What is great about these types of talks is they give you the end result you need to achieve. In solutions architecture we often start with the current architecture and the to be architecture. Then you start planning migrations to the to be architecture and steps on how to get there. Sometimes it is big bang other times you can make smaller steps but anyone building a studio should go through this type of exercise/plan in order to get closer and closer to the end result. I think we often believe we cannot do great mixes without all this in place but the best piece of advice I have ever received (and it was from Warren) is "spend more time in your room listening to the music you enjoy". That single piece of advice has changed my mixing completely.

    hey Warren!
    thank you for this video!
unfortunately i have a big problem with the attitude of the speaker (especially Jaycen Joshua).
how am i supposed to understand when someone tells me he can only mix through „Augspurger“ monitors !?
i thought professionals could work with (nearly) anything?
in the last decades excellent mixes have been created.
basically i already understood what he meant…but it’s a bit off the wall.
these statements cannot be valid for me.
    but again….thanks for the insight!

He knows when he’s doing his best work. It can be discouraging when price points are so high for that caliber equipment but everybody starts somewhere and it isn’t there. He could have mentioned that but his perspective is just from where he’s at & what he’s grown comfortable with.

I don't know why Rick Ruebin pops into my mind. I suppose it would be that sound design has to include vibes and creative atmosphere as well as actual sound design.

@@Producelikeapro I watched the 30min special on Rick and the hip hop evolution. Was really worth the watch. I was more or less referring to his estate and home recording spaces. Didn't get to see the Equipment on a grand scale of details, however I am sure you're 100% right on the no magic regarding equipment lol Ricks magic was more or less spiritual advisory skills and taste for miminalistic distraction type environments.

Good conversation but I would imagine very few people have the budget to design a studio. With that said, I much rather work in a naturally lit environment with views of nature than in a dark and sterile studio.
