Love the fact you’re expanding to EU market as well, however I’d appreciate if EU market cars are being reviewed, that you stick to the EU numbers (WLTP, kilometers, provide EU pricing in a few key markets like Norway, Germany, NL) and maybe display approximate numbers for US on screen
I’m an American and I agree, please give data in the native measurements and then if possible do a text box with conversions for us Americans to enjoy without having to do the calculation:-) Cheers from Oklahoma USA
this was the very first review that properly dissect the differences between this and the ID.4, despite using the same platform, instead of just saying it's 'just an ID.4 with a different body'. It's bland? it is, Ford could done something better? definitely, but great review William!
I wish they would sell a version of this car in the US. Maybe they could call it an Escape? I think something this size with this styling would be a good seller in the US.
It’s an ID.4 with different skins on the outside with the same quiet cabin, very solid ride and handling and great fit and finish. Just buy an ID.4. There are a lot of great deals to be had on very low mileage used and great deals on new ones. We have two and love the heck out of them.
I reviewed one and agree that the Explorer EV would sell rather well in the US/Can market. They did a better job with the Explorer than with the Capri (which should have been called Mondeo) Ford electrification strategy is now a bit odd, selling a Mach E which is their own platform alongside a heavily reworked MEB platform. Europe has way way better EV diversity vs what we get in US/Canada.
Well meanwhile I have a 2023 ID4 that has never ever gotten any kind of software update. Apparently the 2024 models have much improved software, but the older models - who cares? Also there are two outstanding recalls on this vehicle for many months now that Volkswagen has never addressed. The Electrify America network has mostly stopped opening new stations. To me it feels like VW has abandoned its electric car commitment. Maybe Ford can actually make a better VW.
Great to see such in depth first drive reviews of European market cars. I feel sorry for Jim Farley - here in Central Scotland I’ve seen 2 Explorers since the were released 3 months ago and my local Ford dealer has as many Explorers out on the forecourt as they have Mach-E’s - 5 of each have been there for months and months unloved, they just don’t seem to be very popular. I’ve seen more Toyota BZ4X’s and Solterra’s around these parts than Explorers…………..
I honestly can’t tell who to blame for interior. On one hand, VW has decided to cheap out so much that it’s become noticeable, but on the other hand, ford has only been increasing materials in petroleum engines, but cheaping out a lot on the electric ones.
Good review. I think it is a different car. The other brothers of the ID4 or ID3 are very similar but this is a new interpretation. Alex Bloch from auto motor und sport has driven this car on dry roads and had some fun. Much more sporty than the ID4 Gtx, he said. And he has tested the rear drive only.
I have this on my shortlist for my next car in the new year. Incredible that it's not available in the USA, it must be a contender to head off Chinese competition.
How often are you really rolling the rear windows down? We've had our ID4 for a year and a half, and can't remember ever needing to roll them down. Aside from that, it's a tap of a button away.
No they are not closing three factories. They want to shut down some factories cause the european car market is much smaller than before corona. There are Talks about 3 factories. But what factories? If we talk e.g. about Dresden, it is 200 employees, or Osnabrück with around 2000 enployees. Not the big ones. VW has several hundreds production locations around the World and some of them are in Germany.
w/ import costs and no tax credit imo it would be dead in the water. I dont think they have the volume to justify costs in setting up a partnership/line for US mfg either. They're in a tough spot imo, but we don't know how their california EV designs are going, everything is tight lipped right now.
This is different from the American version of the Explorer that thankfully still has a gas engine and sells about 200,000 units a year. This would be a good replacement for the Edge.
Since there is no frunk, the answer is no. Also, I have no desire to ever deal with a dealership again unless the car can be purchased completely online. The answer is also no.
Ford desperately needs a vehicle in this segment in the US, but this will probably never come to our shores. From a brand perspective, it doesn't fit. It doesn't use Sync 4A, nor does it use the new Ford Digital Experience. It doesn't have BlueCruise. For rolling tech boxes, these are two things that the marketing team would likely lose it if they had to somehow communicate it to the US consumers. But, Ford has shown VW what it should release in the US. The ID.4 is OK, but too quirky for all but the ardent VW customers IMO.
I agree that the exterior design is nice, but imo the Ford logo is outdated. It looks flat and I don't like the fact that it's colored. Should be updated to something more modern, would do the car so much more justice. Have yet to see the first one in Belgium, while the Volvo EX30 is literally everywhere around here these days. ID4 as well of course but that one 's been around for a while now. Also, why on earth do they choose capacitive buttons, literally everyone that reviews a car and myself included hate them. Long live normal buttons that you can feel and don't have to look at! It's so unsafe, unnecessary and annoying, yet many car companies keep using them.
The ID4 in the US doesn't get a heat pump and their trim breakout is terrible. It is a confusing mess. This looks like way too much VW baggage that is causing consumers to not buy ID4's in this package. I hope they can sell them. Until VW pulls their head out and cleans up their product lineup and offerings they are going to continue to fall behind. Ford using VW to get something in the market sounded like a good idea back when they announced this, but now I am not so sure. VW is a hot mess. If VW would just get their act together and correct the issues I would prefer the ID4 over this. Too much baggage from VW here for me to like it. Ford needs to get on the ball and get their own EV SUVs out the door. Good job William.
Come on now Ford! Plastic grille on a Bang & Olufsen stereo? That's just Blasphemy! Ford is not worthy of using B&O now!😵 But still pretty good value car though!🙂
Less power, less efficient, less safe, no frunk, and not nearly as technologically advanced as the Y. I'ts always nice to have options, but the smart money will buy the same thing as all their neighbors.
@@jonpetter8921 I listed several factual reasons the Y is better, and you responded with an unevidenced cliché, but I'm the blind follower? lol The lack of self-awareness is truly impressive.
@@kenhiett5266 I could list here also that this Ford has better noise insulation, better ride quality and generally has better build quality than Tesla Model Y, basically like the ID 4. Less safe ? if i m right Tesla is one of the few modern EV with most fatal crashes to date, auto pilot cough cough. So again stop drinking Elons Kool Aid.
Are you serious? This is a European market vehicle, they've long settled on CCS2 for *all* EVs Teslas included. Also, good luck with three-phase power using a Tesla style connector.
This was a great review William! Can’t wait for more from you ⚡️

This dude is good vibes. Keep ‘em coming, William! Also, Norway is stunning even in the rain.

they are working on a compact EV, maybe based on this style, it will come out in a few years
There is already a Escape in the US, it's the Kuga phev here in Europe.

Nice presentation, more organized than the normal presenters!
So awesome to see William on Out of Spec! Love both of his own channels! might be biased tho, Norwegian myself🤣
Same! ❤🇳🇴
Partnerships with Rivian, Ford, Scout, VW, Electrify America....gotta give it to Volkswagen for their desire to really get behind the EV movement.👏👏👏
Scout and EA belong to VW

VW is on the brink of bankruptcy due to their convergence to all EV! They are closing down plants and laying off workers.
And VW is really behind - in the EV movement
Revival after the emissions scandal.
Great Job William !!!. Excellent Video
This actually looks really nice... Looks nicer than the ID.4 in the US.
Always believe in the quality of Ford. I have been driving Ford for many years without any problems
Great review William!
Can't wait to see long distance review! Thanks!
Excellent review. First time seen a William video and like his presentation approach. 👍
Hell yeah William. Great job!
. I have had recent experience with driving a new Explorer for a few hundred kilometers, and I was really surprised at how good it is.
Great hands on review, thankyou!

I'd like to see a tow test. I've got a small caravan with 750kg and didn't switch to full eletric because of it.

Would be interested in comparisons of the Skoda Elroq to the Ford Ranger
You should get a wider angle camera for the handheld, close-up shots 😊
Cool how they decided to take the absolute worst part of the ID.4 that everyone hates and put it in this car as well (2 window switches).
How often are you really rolling the rear windows down? We've had our ID4 for a year and a half, and can't remember ever needing to roll them down. Aside from that, it's a tap of a button away.
Audi Q4 e-tron is MEB, and it has 4 window switches.
Hej William, that’s a surprise 😅
My Ford S-Max has a automatic tow hitch.
I'm tall and the glass roof lowers the roof at the sides. I can't fit in the back seat with the glass roof but I fit with the normal roof.
If Abbath gets one I will too.
Would really love if UA-cam would undo this update where you can't even so the whole title on mobile. It's so good... what
I am having the problem of the title truncated on Android too.
Good job.
My id4 lemon made me salty to them. Local dealer is the issue more than the car but is what it is
Did he ever mention how quickly it will charge from 10-80% ?
Rwd 28mins and awd 25mins 😊
MEB platform is NOT a great platform. Why do you think they were trying to develop a different one?
They said it 5 years ago, that they develop a new one. They do it regulary since 50years, to change the plattform...
That would be nice in North America, wishful thinking maybe?
Wishful thinking indeed; it will not be sold here, is my view. And as shown, the Tesla is better for LESS money
Difficult business case: VW loses money selling it to Ford. Does Ford lose money on this EVplorer - like they do on EVs they make? VEry strange.
they are working on a compact EV, maybe based on this design
If you're showcasing the car, don't stand in front of it when we're trying to see it.
Isn’t vw closing three factories in Germany and laying off thousands…..?
It's build on ford's own factory in Köln 😊
