    Magnificent, not enough known. Barthold Heinrich Brockes was an influential German poet who re-worked the traditional form of a Passion oratorio. The most famous musical setting of Brockes' text is that by George Frideric Handel, (1719) HWV 48. Other composers who set this text are Reinhard Keiser (1712), Georg Philipp Telemann (1716), Johann Mattheson (1718), Johann Friedrich Fasch (1723), Gottfried Heinrich Stölzel (1725), Johann Caspar Bachofen (1759), and several others. Johann Sebastian Bach took the trouble to copy out large portions of Handel's Brockes Passion in his own hand. Bach also performed Handel's and Telemann's settings of the Brockes Passion In Leipzig, and included arias from Handel's setting in a St Mark Passion pasticcio.

    La música és formidable, com tota l'obra de Händel, Les veus al seu lloc, els músics meravellós i el director reconec que sap com es fan les coses davant una formació com aquesta encara que pel meu gust les àries tenen que entrar just després dels recitatius, espera massa. És el meu criteri.

    Thank you for performing and sharing this wonderful work. I wish it were better known and more often performed here in the UK. Handel was already living in England when he set Brockes’ libretto. I heard an excellent performance in Wigmore Hall last year and never tire of listening to recordings. There are now three complete versions available on youtube, for which I am truly grateful.

      @@johnholmes912 Bach is more profound, technically difficult and often somber. The intellectual level is very high. Händel is simpler and happier, their life styles were very different. Händel was famous and had money, Bach wasn't and had little money.

      @@johnholmes912 Handel may have been a happier tunesmith than Bach, but Bach was a stronger builder. His mathematics was better. • @Musica-xo3uv
      @Musica-xo3uv 3 роки тому +3

      @@richardscrimger3969 Handel mixes his native German style with Italian style and with French influence as well. His music is more dramatic and melodious than Bach's, which for my taste always sounds stiff and rough to me, too mechanical. Handel's music is more descriptive, due to the strong influence of the opera.

    • @Musica-xo3uv
      @Musica-xo3uv 3 роки тому +1

      @@FighterFred Handel is also very profound, you just have to listen to his Dixit Dominus (one of the most difficult choir works ever composed) or the oratorio Theodora. The difference with Bach is that Handel had a more versatile style, being so cosmopolitan and influenced by the opera, so his compositions sound very different from each other. Bach was always attached to his German tradition, so it always sounded the same, that is, more mechanical and structured.

      Notice also it has five strings, most basses have four. All the string players are playing baroque period style instruments ie the bows curve up instead of down and no chin rests, some are using shoulder rests. To be totally baroque the violin necks should be slightly shorter and angled differently for gut strings. Steel strings were invented about 1800.

      No existe traducción ya que se trata de un nombre propio, el de Brockes quien fue el libretista de esta pasión (por eso el titulo de Brockes Passion). Lo mas aproximado seria Bruck, que significa puente. Al parecer JS Bach transcribió esta partitura de su propia mano y habria encontrado inspiración en esta obra temprana de Handel para su monumental Pasión según San Juan
