I have tears in my eyes! My two lifetime favorites together again!!! I saw each of you as often as I could, over the last 50 years…thank you both so very much for all you’ve done for music. Much love 💕
When I first got “Borderline” decades ago I thought “What a waste of money.” Then I listened with headphones and my mind was blown. RC is one of my GOATS. Even earlier I bought “Oooh So Good ’n Blues” and I thought I wasted $5 (it was a long time ago!). Then I heard a program called The History of Rock and Roll, and when they went to the beginning of R&R, to the Blues I thought “They’re playing TJ! TJ is another GOAT!
I saw Taj Mahal a few years ago at the Kent Stage. These are two legends and both are underrated. I have been following them since the 1980's. The Blues Brothers movie influenced me to research Taj Mahal and Cocktail movie had me research Ry Cooder.
My first introduction was Into the Purple valley , I know it's a little late into his legacy but I've been a huge fan ever since , so glad & fortunate to have seen him at massey hall in Toronto just b4 covid took over
Ok, the competition is open. Please indicate your choice for the Grammys SECOND best acoustic blues album of the year. "Get on Board" is the overwhelming First place winner. And folks, don't forget to purchase the album so the artists can make TENS of dollars!
These guys are go great. When real talent gets together look what you get with the simplest percussion, a harmonica, and a mandolin. Of course you have Cooder's soul voice, and the great Taj Mahal. Just fantastic. I'm gonna listen to "Take a Giant Step" right now.
My words could never give them the praise they deserve! They separately and together are SO AWESOME. AND THIS SONG IS ONE OF MY FAVORITES! IT NEVER FAILS TO PUT A SMILE ON MY FACE AND GETS MY ONE LEG A TAPPING. THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH FOR RESCUING ME MANY TIMES!!!
It's hard to comprehend the talent of this. Ry is an absolute master of the genres that he embraces. Taj is great too but Ry...oh my God, what a talent.
So I have been fortunate enough to see Sonny Terry and Brownie McGee a few times and they always blue me away. So unique a sound! And Ry and Taj are no less legendary then they were. You guys both had large impact on me personally and on the whole blues and roots movement that was exploding back then. Glad to see you’re both still active and thriving and fresh!! Back together again! Thanks!
Two of the best. Ry and Taj. Masters at their craft. I saw Taj with his first band with Jesse Ed Davis in the late 60s and many times thereafter. I caught Ry Cooder in the late 60s at the University of Washington Hub ballroom. These two bluesmen are tight as a tick and have shown the world what the blues is for over 50 years. God bless Taj and Ry. Pure gold. Thanks guys.
masterpiece from the real masters ..what a meeting ...heroes and legends paying tribute to their legends the rising sons ...all our love from Athens Greece ,,,,
Love Taj for years - from Take a Giant Step through all his work and now seeing this. This is what heals my heart and lifts my soul . Thanks for the music gentlemen
Always loved the open warmth of that F4 and what you do with it ..Perfect frame for Taj's harmonica..What a joy to hear you two together again at this end of the ride .. Very glad to still be around to catch this .. YOu have both given so much to my life.. Most days one or the other of you have been on in my pottery barn these 50 years while Im making pots .Both of you have changed or opened my ears in the best way ..Ry has taught me that the space in between the playing is as important as the notes and Taj (and Clerance Ashley) made me go down the road of clawhanner banjo ... A deep thanks to you both for a life time of joy ...
@guywolff I'm hoping by the next time I get up to your shop I'll have figured out how to play this on either my 1920s StrombergVoisinet or my Recording King copy of an old National resomando. Hope you can get the lyrics and the harmonica part down on the banjo by then!
My bro turned me on to Sonny and Brownie back in the late 70s. And to have Ry and Taj do their songs is something I would have had on my bucket list if I had one. 👍

Just walked out of the first of two Ry / Taj dates at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco half an hour ago. What utterly uplifting, moving stuff - and I write that as someone who's been attending their gigs (on separate billing, alas) for 40 plus years. The last surviving straight line connection to this great American heritage of ours - Rev. Gary, Jesse Fuller, Sonny and Brownie. Not to be missed if they opt to extend their tour. Blessings to you both.
Thanks fellas what a way to warm up this blistery day in Boise a couple of true American icons bless you both bless all of you happy New Year and happy holidays thanks again
My friend Cody just sent me this song. I've never heard it before and I find it rugged and warm. It Rocks hards as fuck too! New fan. Consider yourself subbed
Ry’s son Joachim grew up under the influence, so to speak, of Ry’s sideman and close friend, the drummer Jim Keltner. When Joachim plays a full kit, you can hear the complementary nuances.
Saw Ry open for Taj in Houston Jan71. Little Feat opened for them. It was an amazing show. There was banter during the show about the Rolling Stones stealing his links lifted from a jam together that ended up uncredited on Beggars Banquet. Was a heady evening for a 19 year old.
Proof that us old men sometimes are better. Thank you gentlemen for this wonderfull handmade and down to earth music.
These legends first played together when Taj was 22 and Ry 17. Still kicking ass at 80 & 75. We are blessed.
Memo to the Kennedy Center Honors people: Ry Cooder and Taj Mahal - what are you waiting for?
Thank God these icons are still playing in my lifetime. Thank you both from the bottom of my heart -

I missed the chance to hear Ry when he was a kid buzzin' round a gal in Fresno back when I was much younger than 80...love his music.
Yes, two legendary geniuses. But some love for that tasty drummer, please.
