Suet! Yes definitely! Colour powder? Use 1/2 curry powder, 1/2tumeric,
Mix a bit of crisco andfrozen real butter, grated, liquid,- use buttermilk, Laminate the combined dough-fold about 5 or 6 times, let it rest in fridge

its been a over a year since i saw this video. i just had some beef patties from a Golden Krust by my house here in New York and i noticed something off about them, it was their crust. it completely lacked the flakiness it once had. they were completely dry and the flavor was almost non existent. that convinced me to start making my own patties. your video is on point. thanks for the recipe

Thanks for this video! A few questions though
    1. is there something else that can be used instead of beef suet? because I have never seen that before
    2. How much beef suet? you didn't say what the measurement was.
    3. You didn't say the temperature of the oven.

  • @anthonymccauley9101

I am going to try this, I have never seen Beef Suet here in the USA, but when I lived in the UK you could get it. The yellow coloring is also new to me I always wondered what they put in it. My Mom makes the best patties, she left JA over 60 years ago, but makes them the old time "Bruces" style, without the coloring. As you say it's really the crust that makes it great. Another good filling to try is "Crab" - get the lump crabmeat from the Oriental Store season it as you have but put a little more pepper and put it in the patty crust.....simply fabulous, but of course more expensive

Hi. This is a FANTASTIC recipe. Hands down, the best that I've seen on the Internet. I have two questions: 1. Can I use curry instead instead of yellow coloring powder? If so, how much. 2. I can't find beef lard where I live. What could I substitute it with that will give it the same taste?

Greetings trust me it is not mandatory to use the beef suet my crust came out perfect trust me the crust just melts in your mouth I was so surprise today is my first day making crust and it came out excellent better than golden crust do not stress if you cannot find beef suet I use unsalted butter and crisco and I lightly knead the flour with a fork and also with my hands. Also when you put the patties on the baking sheet please do not flour the pan use parchment paper but flour the rolling pin

Call your local butcher's shops. It took me a while. You can find it, especially around the holidays. It is commonly used in beef kidney pies a holiday favorite in some families. First time out, I only found it in one solid mass. I had to squeeze it through a garlic press. :-) Finally, I found it just as Keith shows it. So keep looking if you don't find it in the right form the first time. When you find it, stock up and keep frozen!

For vegetarian patty recipes, they use cold coconut oil. I made it for an event and my husband is vegetarian. It works beautifully.
