TENOCHTITLAN: Aztec Ruins in the Heart Mexico City
Вставка
- Опубліковано 15 жов 2024
- Tenochtitlan was a large Mexica city-state located under much of what is now known as the historic center of Mexico City.
It is quite remarkable that an entire ancient Aztec city exists under the city. The ancient city discovered when a local worker was drilling to access electricity cables.
Once found, the government had two square blocks excavated by demolishing the existing buildings. Additionally, there are places throughout the Zocalo where you can see the ruins below ground.

“Let’s go” has pretty much been our life’s motto since we met nearly 25 years ago. We met in New York, moved to San Diego together, and married in Lake Tahoe - all within five months. When you know, you know - you know what we mean?
Now, after raising two adventure-seeking boys, we are ready to get out and explore some more. Our children have begun their lives and now it’s time to begin the second-half of ours.
We wanted a challenge and something fun, so we are starting an adventure of a lifetime. We’re calling it #60×60. Our plan is to travel to 60 countries by the time Kim turns 60 (that’s in 6 years by the way).

OH THATS THE EMBLEM ON THE MEXICAN FLAG MIND BLOWN
:-)
As a Mesoamerican native it saddens me to see how great my people once were. Today... not so much.
I don't think your people lost their greatness - maybe they are great in different ways today. I saw evidence of it during our entire stay. - Kim
A lot of the native people at the time sided with the Spanish due to being oppressed by Aztec. Doesn't make the Spanish conquest right but hey a lot of the native people had a choice.
you can feel better knowing that Spain is now almost a 3rd world county

Excellent job!. Many sites and things to discover in Mexico. There are 35 UNESCO World Heritage in the country, thousands of pre-columbian archeological sites, hundreds of magical towns, natural beauties and colonial Cities.
Cheers!!!
Thank you. We LOVE Mexico! We are counting the days until we can return.
Making a presentation on Aztecs and came across you guys really love the way you portrayed the information and the cinematic
Thank you so much. I hope you found some useful information.
If only the human preserved the lake and building...and not mixed with crowded building nowadays...
I was going to ask what happened to Lake answer is modernization!
Definitely one of my favorite attractions in Mexico City. I spent over 2 hours there. It was much bigger than what I expected it be. You will probably like Teotihuacan too!
We loved it there, too. Working on a video of that now. Stay tuned.
I remember walking around the dig site when they first discovered it back in 1979-80. Was going to school about 6 blocks from el Zocalo.
Apologies for the delayed response. UA-cam is just now showing your comment. Do you have any pictures from that time? I'd love to see them.
Tenochtítlan the great mesoamerican capital of the Mexicas
One of the greatest cities of its time
If I heard him correctly, he said when they found the ruins, they decided to destroy the new stuff, in favor of investigating the old. That's pretty cool. It would have been lost if in US, where findings like that would usually result in it being covered up for progress.
Thanks for this video! I appreciate your time and efforts to share this with us! Its quite fascinating to see. Sending you both the best wishes and Blessings on your travels!
You guys sure seem to love travelling. I would like to visit the former Aztec capital once, great stuff.
My favorite too, that’s my birthplace!!
Great video guys, thank you.
Great video guys 👍🏽
Thank you so much!
"Way means great?"
"Yes"
"Okay , just want to clarify that"

Living with him has been a challenge ever since. :-). ~Kim
I’m glad more Americans are traveling to Mexico, yet so close to us but yet seemed like average Americans were always so negative about Mexico for the past century until they seen the beauty in the country from pre-Columbian times, beaches, deserts, mountains, jungles, pyramids and only the best food
It's a shame the way Mexico is portrayed in the U.S.A. It's an incredible country. Our foreign friends however have quite positive impressions of Mexico even if they have not been there.
The Spanish destroyed the real Aztec calender with the real temple. Real meaning is lost.
:-( So much history is lost.
@SWAT Kats Cry more, troll
@SWAT Kats Thanks to the Spaniards they became good Catholic Christians

so I am watching your videos. We are thinking of traveling to Mexico City, MX. Did you guys sign up for tours or drive your own car to these places? If you did tours, is there a tour company that you recommend? Also where did you stay when you traveled down there?
Apologies for the delayed response. UA-cam is just now showing your comment. We usually do not take tours but we do research before we go. We also take public transit or a taxi rather than renting a car. We like the flexibility of doing things on our time schedule.
Si me dieran a escoger en dónde nacer de nuevo yo no dudaría y sería en México Tenochtitlan maravilla de maravillas ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤. 😊
They need to build it back
Yes! I'd love to see that.
@@KimandWay I would love a project to build everything back without the human sacrifice
LOL, yes, let's avoid that!
It would be impressive to have the aesthetic _design_ of tenochtitlan, but with modern-day advancements and building designs.
you could probably build a much nicer-looking, highly futuristic island-city that would also act as the capital of the country as well as a huge sight-seeing attraction.
In many ways, the Original Tenochtitlan is the "8th wonder of the ancient world," as it is yet another visual marvel that was lost to ancient time. (although to call it part of the "old" world might be confusing to people who refer to the Americas as the "new" world)
Sadly, we'll never get to see it or any of the other ancient wonders of the world in their prime; only the Pyramid of Giza remains, and it's in pretty sorry condition due to both it's age and the brutal elements it's exposed to year after year.
A crime to destroy centuries of workmanship and turned to rubble.
It is tragedy that such grand monuments and unique cultures were eradicated. It makes me terribly sad.
jaja un capo el guia
Imagine what it would look like now if Cortes never kidnapped Moctezuma and started killing all it's inhabitants.
Yes, I often wonder what the modern world would be like if the America's had been left untouched by the Europeans.

HA! And he never lets me forget it either.

It’s ok. Spain now fail too.
@@StopFear modern day Spaniards don’t deserve to have their country fall.
@@rogeliomora417 Where have I said if they deserve it? I didn’t. BUT there is an important caveat. IF the government of Spain today has inherited any gold from the previous governments and from the monarchy then they have no right to it. I do not know if they have. If a lot of colonization era gold was used for Spain infrastructure then reparations should be paid. That infrastructure or gold reserve (if it’s inherited from monarchy of Spain) isn’t something modern Spaniards could legally have inherited. At the minimum perhaps there should be unrestricted immigration allowed from Spain’s former colonies if the people from former colonies want to immigrate.
@@StopFear no sorry I wasn’t clear enough. I didn’t mean for it to sound like I was accusing you of wanting it to fall. I just meant that at this point there shouldn’t be a reason to hold that grudge anymore. The people there now had nothing to do with the horrible shit the Spanish did to these lands, and I think by now the gold was spent long before any of them were born. They weren’t able to benefit from the exploitation so I don’t think they should be the ones to fail.
@@rogeliomora417 The same ruling class still exists and benefits in Latin American and Spain. Neocolonialism is a real thing

Thanks so much for this video. I always wanted to go to Mexico to see stuff like this, but just being honest here, Cartel violence scares me. People that have visited say not to worry, that Cartel's only mess with other Cartel's and gangs, but it's hard to get out of my head about that. I can imagine my wife getting chainsawed while screaming, "But people on UA-cam said it was safe!!!" Sorry for my dark joke, lol.
