As long as the San Joaquin river stays dammed up and illegally underflowed for the same "turning non-farmland into farmland" reasons as in this video, we'll never make a dent in the valley ecosystem.
Did we? I always wondered what that valley looked like before it became farmland. Where do you live? I grew up in Visalia, Dinuba and Dunlap, my family is from Fresno and Exeter. I was too young to know much about the environmental destruction, save the tragic Redwood deforestation. I live in southern Illinois now (Baldwin). Been gone for 22 years. When I go back I see the air is so polluted and that the land is suffering from draught after draught. After studying environmental science and after listening to wise people explain how loss of grass lands and forest greatly depletes the land’s water stores, I also now believe that if we planted a variety of grasses, shrubs ,and trees as well as fungi ,the land would absorb more water and air pollutants and the Central Valley of California would again prosper. My grandpa was a farmer in Tulare and retired as a grape farmer in Selma. I have precious memories of being out there with him, smelling the diesel fuel (remembering that smell is a happy memory for me btw, ha) on his work clothes as we rode around the ranch in his Ford truck, seeing the foot hills and the mountains in the distance. I love the San Joaquin Valley, it will always have a special place in my heart. Thanks for the reminder, my friend.
This makes me so happy. Praise God. I love these people. Gives me hope that this glorious nation can have its immensely great forest and unique biomes restored for the sake of the whole human race. People are always very nearsighted when it comes to environmental destruction. They see the money that they are getting immediately but they don’t consider how ruinous their actions are in the long run. It is heart breaking how much forest and natural habitat we have lost to greed and folly but God is being merciful and helping us through there good folks. May God bless them all. Thank you for sharing this with us.
So the federal government pays to restore the trees that were cut down by private growers who found out they couldn't grow after the damage was done. Don't the companies that cut down our trees have a responsibility to replant or pay to replant the trees? I see this all over the place with mining, logging, oil spills, etc. Whole sections of a state that lay bare because "someone" just walked away after making their money, leaving a nauseating mess behind. Does the American who lives across the nation always have to pick up the tab for plundering?
You see, my dear neighbor on this earth, there is a reason that our creator commanded His prophets to say to all people that, “you must love your neighbor as you love yourselves.” There is no going wrong if we are loving to one another and we never act selfishly. But who can be righteous unless they are taught to be righteous? Therefore, we have a job to do.
Couldn't understand why he thought Beavers were bad. They're part of landscape restoration in this area. Obviously doesn't fully understand the local ecology.
@coc0s Yes, but they're just part of nature & nature doesn't necessarily always fit with humanities idea of what is suitable which is why the project is needed in the first place; because humans have done so much damage. The whole point of this project is to return it to as natural a state as possible. Beavers can make a huge difference when trying to rebalance ecosystems hence reintroduction programs in in Europe & UK. River Otters also. Separately, there's been small scale reforestation projects in Scotland; the before & after results are like night & day. Most people think of many Scottish glens as rocky barren things with a stream or small river running through them, myself included. One bloke decided to take on one of these. You absolutely wouldn't recognise it as being the same location after about 12 years. He grew & replanted almost everything up until the point where it was able to selfseed. Now it's a heavily wooded valley. Basically humans have deforested Scotland over thousands of years for firewood, building & land clearance for farming. Just one small example of landscape restoration.
Eventually excessive flooding resulting from climate change should abate somewhat as the soils and the vegetation will create better absorption. Also soil accumulation as opposed to erosion will add more capacity to the river by preventing silting up.
I hope they dont just plant cypress everywhere, you can plant Dawn redwoods too and Chinese cypress just in case some insect or fungus learns how to kill all the same tree
They eat trees and chew down many for dams and make channels where farmers don't want channels, but it seems they could be managed as well. Beaver tail is suppose to be a delicacy and beaver fur makes the best Stetsons.
It was surprising to read large part of USA particularly on the western side is arid to semi arid. People participation to maximum extent should be taken with avenue plantations (Angiosperms broad leaves trees) including dominance of horticulture trees for massive afforestation .. will improve rainfall and biodiversity in very long time.

How about instead of being stuck in the past, why not use the forests for wood & Craft products, and leave the animals alone. Also Beavers are an important Habitat builder, that should be left alone, as part of a thriving ecosystem!
They can flood certain areas which can cause roadways to wash out. There are cases of massive road wash outs because of beavers. The thing is, we just need to monitor their activity and not take away all the trees and forested areas where beavers prefer to live and then beavers are immensely good for the ecosystem. Possibly because of Giardia, or beaver disease, if getting in the drinking water supplying individual farms, homesteads and small communities.

i m a little confused reforest or hunt
They reforest which creates more habitat for the wildlife. More habitat raises populations of animals like turkeys, which they can now hunt more of.
