Fourteen years of pain and failed ankle surgeries brought me to 2018, when I made the difficult decision to become a twenty-seven-year-old below-the-knee elective amputee. This channel is to document my journey of amputation surgery, recovery, and reclaiming my life.
Thank you so much for sharing your story! It's such a privilege to see your honest, open account of your limb loss journey. We can't think of a better way to celebrate an ampuversary than by getting a leg!

What's it like? I'm super curious because I recently lost my leg
My dad's an amputee
You should visit prosthetic solutions in Muncie, Indiana
I may be a stranger on the internet but I've been watching your whole journey and finally seeing you walk made me absolutely cry my eyes out. I am so glad you're getting where you want to be. ❤️😭
Isn't it amazing how connected we can get to people we have never met?
Same here
I was about to comment the exact same thing. I’m so proud Jo!! ❤️
I too shed the happy tears. :)
Same here! Good to know I was not the only one!
Can we just appreciate the people who actually spent time on making her fake leg, and that they make peoples lives so much happier and better. You are so blessed to get your new leg
Seriously though!!! I got to feature my leg guy (prosthetist) Zach in my “direct socket” video and I loved being able to bring light to him and what he does and why he does it. I don’t think they get enough thanks!!
It just occurred to me how awesome it is to be a prosthetist, they're improving lives and also look like they're having a bomb time doing it!
Im soooo happy for you Jo, its awesome seeing you back on 2 feet!
Literally one of the reasons I'm studying to become one! :)
Callielalala seriously though!! My prosthetist is such a cool guy too. They’re all very laid back and listen really well, I think they really enjoy what they do!
I am actually studying Biomedical Engineering to do somethin prosthetic-related
This is the start Jo, remember this as the start of the rest of your life
Thank you SO much!!! 💜 You choosing to be a part of my journey, the ups and downs, and celebrate with me means the world to me!!!
Now you can walk and exported the world I’m happy for you to be able to walk again
I am a part time wheelchair user because of back and leg pain. I've watched you over the year and seeing you walk with your new prosthetic without being in excruciating pain brought tears to my eyes. I am so happy for you. You are amazing , keep going forward.
When you took your first steps I wanted to cry for you, you looked so happy and I am so happy for you Jo!!! Good luck on your journey, you have been through so much I hope nothing but good things for the future!
Lin Meyer, Thank you SO much!!! 💜 You choosing to be a part of my journey, the ups and downs, and celebrate with me means the world to me!!! 🎉💜💕
@@FootlessJo It's no problem, I have enjoyed watching your journey, all the ups and downs, and despite not being an amputee myself, it still gave me a lot of strength watching your videos! Can't wait until months from now you're posting videos of you running and walking your doggos!
LM Meyer you are so sweet
I’m a student prosthetist in the UK, we’ve only recently started making full prosthetics, so seeing your journey, and your reaction to walking is so wonderful, it really has me excited to see my future first patients
Hey Marshal, can I ask if the budget for prosthetics are a lot more stringent on the NHS? Jo's limb looks very expensive, so would the NHS pay out for something like hers?
I almost got happy tears when she walked
*got happy tears when she walked over here lol
no like when she got the thing in her leg i almost got happy tears and when she walked i got even more happy
Your hubby said it best- it’s great to see you walking again after a year. I am so happy for you. Here’s to more happy days! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Willow76ny Thank you SO much! 💕 You choosing to be a part of my journey, the ups and downs, and celebrate with me means the world to me!!!
Who the heck is chopping onions here!!! Stop! 😭😭😭
I'm so happy for you Jo! I completely understand how you are hesitant to celebrate this so much that you get your hopes up and get disappointed again. So let's just celebrate one day at a time. After all, that's exactly how you took the bad days, why not take the good days one at a time too. I think that's a healthy perspective, right? 🎆Yay for today!🎆
Austin Patrick THANK YOU SO MUCH AUSTIN!!!! 💜 You’ve been such a part of this journey and I so appreciate it! Thank you for your wise words and celebrating with me in these amazing moments!!
@@FootlessJo A real friend is here for good times and bad times. Also, it's easy to be supportive to supportive people. There's very much a two way street of encouragement. I feel like I belong here. Being appreciated is good medicine too. ☺️ Thanks Jo.
I am so so happy for you !! your positivity and determination is contagious and inspiring ❤️❤️
I've never really been invested in stuff on UA-cam but I've been following you before this all happened and it brightens my day seeing you so happy and with a new leg
Kat M that truly means so much to me! Thank you!!! 💕
you are so strong and it's amazing that you will be back to doing everything you love again. You deserve every good thing that happens to you no matter what. I'm sure your puppy dogs will be looking forward to you walking them again 👍🏼

I almost cried when you took the first steps, what a journey! Your walking looked so natural 😊
I am crying tears of happiness for you, Jo. I've been watching you since about 3-5k subs and I am so glad you're finally reaching the point you've wanted to be at.
Jo, I've been re-watching your journey from start to present, and even though I'm used to your current "status" as a pro wearing this all day and doing all the things you'd been dreaming of .... Watching these first unassisted steps makes me smile with heartfelt joy.
What an incredible gift to your future self this channel was - very few of us can look back on such a detailed record of our tumultuous life changes. And we get the gift of learning from your experience. Thank you so very much. ❤️🍍
So happy to be on this journey with you. Thank you for allowing us to be apart of your life, Jo. 😘
Joe hugging her leg in to her chest was like low key funny because it looked like a finger bending. I’m so glad you got a leg and can start working on walking! It’s been a long time coming
Hannah Kalter haha you’re not wrong!! And thank you so much for being happy with me!
I have been waiting and waiting for this video since you were posting about your prosthetist appointment on Friday. Seeing the whole process of them creating the prosthetic was super cool! It is so SO good to hear that it went well, I'm sending an internet hug to you! Here's to the next steps forward (literally and figuratively)
So freakin awesome, got tears and started remembering my first steps with my prosthetic
Like a lot of us here, I was shedding tears of joy for you. It's so awesome to see you walking and smiling !! Take it slow, and get used to your new leg. That thing does look pretty cool. Good on ya', Jo !! Big hugs from Castro Valley, CA.
Hi Jo, I just had to send you a message after watching this. It was so good to see how full of hope you were even at the end of such a difficult day. I have nerve damage down both legs so I’m not the steadiest on my two legs so watching you take those unsupported steps brought me great Joy. Your doing it, you’re really doing it!!! I can’t imagine how you must be feeling. You’re videos and your ability to see the bigger picture have got me through some tough days this year and I just wanted to say thank you and to urge you to keep fighting the good fight. You are loved and appreciated on here and we all wish you all the best luck in the world for your continuing journey. Anyway, I’ll stop babbling and let you get back to your day. Best wishes, Cheryl. XXXXX
This is so wonderful to see, Jo! It's been a long, hard road but to see you take those first independent steps was so very joyful for you, your family, and the rest of us! Woot, woot! 🎉😁 More to come soon, I hope!💗
Jo, I have been having some tough days trying to manage my chronic back pain. Seeing you so happy and feeling good after a year of frustrations and setbacks really made my day. I am so, so happy for you. You have been through so much. You are such an inspiration 🤗💗. Wishing you all the best!!
No I’ve been following since before your amputation and man can I say I’m in aw of how far you’ve come in a year. You put your mind to it and you’re successful. Keeping being positive. Take the set backs and learn from them ❤️
Oh my goodness Jo. I could cry, I'm so happy you're walking. And without holding on. Wow.
Congratulations Jo! I’ve been following your journey for a long time now and i’m so excited to see you take your first steps on sunshine! With some practice you’ll be walking the pups in no time!
Dear Jo, I was smiling the whole time, seeing your face lit up like a shiny diamond, you are absolutely radiant. Happy new beginnings ❤, blessings
Claudia, Thank you SO much!!! 💜 You choosing to be a part of my journey, the ups and downs, and celebrate with me means the world to me!!!

It was absolutely mesmerising to watch you take those few steps. Almost like a newborn fawn; hesitation and determination in equal measure. And walking handsfree?! Astounding! You go girl! I am so happy for you that things seem to go so well this time around. I am immeasurably proud of you as you keep going even though everything feels hopeless sometimes.
And the process to make the prosthetic looks so sci-fi! I love it!
Also, can we thank Brian's filming skills and your editing skills real quick? There are some bits in there that were fantastic!
I'm so happy for you. It's so strange, I've never seen another legless person walk.Just the view that I had from myself.

I been watching your videos since the beginning and see you up and walking makes me so happy for you. Wow overwhelmed with emotions watching this. So happy for you.
This free-hand-sabre-saw-fitting...this dude must have done LOTS of prosthetics.
This whole UA-cam channel is an inspiration. It’s amazing that you chose to amputate and learned to live with it.
I cried while watching this. Im so happy Jo. Im so excited for the future!! Im so proud of you Jo. You have worked hard!! Much love
I’m so happy for you! I came across your channel because of the thumbnail you had of how you said goodbye to your foot. And I’ve been hooked ever since. I love how honest and raw you are about everything. You show us how real it all is and how it’s never sunshine and rainbows all the time. I hate how most people on UA-cam make their lives out to be some fairytale, but you, you show us truth! And I’m so happy you are finally able to take steps and get back to your normal. We love you!
Seeing this pop up on my timeline was so nice after a really long day at work. I'm so happy for you! Well done on all your hard work over the last year!
Ahh the feels! So stoked to see things working out for you, Jo!
oh my god yaaaas! So happy for you! Your smile is so big! Never thought i could be this proud of someone who id never met... You go girl!
I came across you today in my search for ankle fusion testimonials.... brought me here cuz my surgeon is talking amputation down the road too. I'm 35. I've been dealing with this since 2007 from a sledding accident and then 1 year ago a VERY bad car accident. I'm so over the pain and not being able to walk. So I'm trying to stay positive through this whole thing. You give me so much hope. Thank you for sharing your journey. I BAWLED for you when you walked without the bars! ❤❤
You are awesome I had tears in my eyes when you walked back and forth I can’t wait to see more video of you walking around stay strong you got this lots of love ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I'm so happy for you Jo. I can't imagine what you've been through, but I know what it's like to feel like so much has gone wrong that you doubt anything can go right. I'm glad its going right so far and I hope that it continues to do so. 😇
Your new leg looks fabulous! And now you have independent mobility! I’m so happy for you❤️❤️❤️❤️
Oh Jo. I too have been here from the start, mostly watching. but Jo, one thing is for sure. I am literally celebrating with you. Happiness is overflowing. It's so good to see you walking again! Big hugs.
This makes my heart so happy for you. Each day will get better for you. 🥰
Hi Jo, my name is Joanne. I'm 73 years old. I lost my right leg in March 13 2020. Just when Covi d started., from a bacterial infection. I was cut 5 inches above my knee.. I have had some complications too. I see you waited a year to get a prosthetics leg. I have some problems with circulation with my left leg and not sure how this will work with for someone with my problem. I can't get a infection as i will lose my good leg too. Your spirit is full of life. Your tanastity and energy with your age will bring you much happiness that will forfill your life in all that you want. I hope i will be able to be as strong as you to make it through my journey for what ever God has left for my time here. God bless you and keep everyone abreast of how you do for your future.
Aaaah I'm so excited for you!!! The process of learning to walk again seems like it's going to be interesting.
GO JO!!!!!!!! SO PROUD OF YOU, thank you for showing the struggles this past year as well as the victories it means so much!

I’m so freaking happy for you!!! Here’s to a great future with your new leg! ❤️❤️❤️
I was watching you walk with tears in my eyes. I also had the world's biggest smile on my face. This is just the start!
That's a pretty cool technique of making a prosthetic! Thank you so much for filming that process.
Also I'm so incredibly happy that things've gone that well.:)
I was crying when you started walking. You just touch my heart, you really do. I know that you have bad days, just know that you have a lot of people thinking about you, and praying for you as well.
Sending hugs from the UK was wonderful to see you so happy xxx
I'm literally so happy seeing you walk I've been watching since you got your leg amputated and seeing all the scary stuff you've been through was worrying to me and now seeing you walking I'm so proud
You’re so strong! 😭 I wish nothing but the best for you! ❤️
I too have never commented but have watched your journey from the beginning. In fact I had a below the knee amputation one month after yours. I was fortunate not to have any set backs. Today when I saw you video of you walking it was pure joy! Just so happy for you and how you are managing your journey! You got this! Yes i shed a few tears of joy as well. You are amazing!
I have been having a really hard time over the last few weeks with my own leg issues, but this video totally made my day. I am so amazingly happy for you.
Next goal: Learn to ski. You live in Colorado, you need to ski.
I honestly shed tears of joy for your steps forward, congrats on making progress in this journey; you continue to be an inspiration for perseverance and always being positive even when the situation seems bleak.
I am SOoooo. Happy for you Jo !!! It’s about time you get to walk again . I’m sure there is a lot of therapy ahead to strengthen that knee and upper leg , but seeing you walk made me yell YES ! out loud ( my wife was like “ what’s up ? “ ) so I told her you had a working leg and foot again ! She says Congrats too btw 🤗
Congratulations on these first steps. I’m so happy to see you walk again. 😘
Jo this absolutely made my day! It was so so amazing to see you walking!
Shedding tears of joy for you Jo!!!!! I have so much hope for you. You looked amazing walking. I will continue to keep you in my thoughts and prayers. 💜
I saw you in my dream lastnight and you had your new leg ❤❤❤ this was so nice to watch. Im so happy for you Jo
I want to thank you for helping me through your progress and encouraging me not to give up on myself and I am very proud of you for not giving up too.
AHHHHHHH AMAZING 😄😄😄🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Looks like all the practise on the iwalk has given you good balance for the prosthetic. So happy for you ❤❤❤
It's great to see you finally walking. Thanks for being willing to take us with you on your journey.
This is AMAZING! My mum has had her ankle fused for almost 10 years and we have never seen or met anyone who has been through a similar situation and she was so overwhelmed and I guess thankful to find your channel and see someone she can actually relate to, funnily enough her name is Jo as well and she has a dog and cats too haha!
So again, thank you so much for sharing your incredible journey!! Is there any way to reach out to you privately and ask you a few questions?
Thank you all the way from Australia!!!
I’ve been following your journey since around this time last year, and I was honestly in tears this entire video.
It’s so amazing to see how far you’ve come, and I’m so happy this surgery has been worth it
