Oh my goodness.. perfection, such talent. In this there is healing, so beautiful and such healing is so needed. The choice of instruments, the blended voices, the gifted artists. Many thanks, with warmth and admiration
I owe Mary Chapin Carpenter a debt of gratitude. Her music carried me through the most painful period of my life, from which I have now emerged. Thank you Mary.
This is the song you need to play in your head the whole time you're waiting at the airport going through TSA screening. Its much nicer than the actual experience. Love Aoife's harmony.
Love these shows. My wife and I watched many till she passed in Dec. 2014. We used to do Thistle and Shamrock and Celtic Connections 2001-2014. This was in the White Mts of Arizona. Now I am in Tucson and this is my Celtic show tonight.
+Duane Gibson hi, just sending my regards from Glasgow, Scotland and hope that music brings you comfort and healing. I love Mary CC she really has such a special way of reaching to your soul.
Ms O'Donovan's voice singing harmony with Ms Carpenter is such a beautiful addition. Wonderful how they come together for other songs as well since. Background here is exquisite to add to the presence of travel to a place over the pond...distance on your own. But of course; perfection and so well done. Phil and Jerry did a fine job.🇨🇦
Hearing Mary sing a slow song almost always brings me to tears. Her voice has a way of communicating extreme vulnerability, poignancy or sadness, depending on the lyrics, that's very hard to duplicate by other singers.
I just saw these two beautiful women perform this song last night; one of the most amazing performances I have ever seen. I am so grateful to have been front row to such stellar beauty!
I started listening to Bluegrass and Country Gospel at ten. I’m now 67 and very grateful for those keeping the music going. Congratulations and thank you for sharing this beautiful mandolin.🕊
Aoife is great! Check out her covers of Joni Mitchell songs, her cover of Springsteen's Nebraska is good too. Her work with I'm With Her (Sarah Jarozs and Sara Watkins) is special too. Their harmony is so good. I especially love Crossing Muddy Waters.
so simple and beautiful.. this song hurts with joy and longing..... Getting ready as my wife and I often do this time of year to travel half the globe and gather all my kids together .. now grown up.... I'm reminded profoundly how much they sustain me and shape what I value even today. Remembering and anticipating that same unique.. now year old bear hug (that is hard to let go of) when I hit the terminal. My travels often span day into night and then 'night into day', and this song captures the experience beautifully particular anticipation on approach. So in appreciation to all those friends and family who have blessed and continue to sustain my sense of well being and my faith by their grace and presence.and continue to feed my 'joy unbounded' to the 'next destination'... to you all...... my heart full and timeless thanks. love ya!
I used to listen to Mary Chapin Carpenter in the early 90s when her career was really at its peak. Her voice has the most interesting quality to it! Its unmistakable really, She, Trisha Yearwood and the incomparable Kathy Mattea are my three favorite female vocalists. This is very pretty.
I thought I was hearing Alison Krauss, the first time I heard this song. (I was on a bed-time UA-cam loop and this stuck out as something I wanted to hear again - glad I did) And, thanks to you thanks to you, I found Kathy Mattea. I call that a win!
I first heard Chapin sing in a Capital Hill bar in 1977. She still had several years of paying her dues before her first album, but she was already a star. Wonderful voice, wonderful person and a great sense of humor best demonstrated by Granola Baby and You Wouldn't Know Me I'm Your Opening Act (two unrecorded songs she wrote) .
Fantastic; sgoinnell! I discovered MCC a long time ago but I've just relistened to this song and now play it all the time in the car. The loch in the background is a bonus to this magic
Thanks for posting: it's great to see her perform. Her voice is a seductive instrument and she matches it to melodies that create an aural spell, both of which command that we attend to her arresting lyrics.
I have listened to this version literally thousands of times. The most beautiful music I've ever heard. I got see them perform this live (front row)...what a gift I'll never forget.
In your prayer you seek the connection with God but God is already in you. If your prayer is silent, without words or visualizations, when it is pure devotion, it can happen…
I last saw Mary perform this just last winter in Manhattan. It was part of an immersive presentation with Gregory Orr, poet as they analyzed Elizabeth Bishop's 'One Art'. She sang but 5 songs during the evening, but what an evening with barely 50 of us there in the audience. Fwiw, we did 'lock' eyes ever so momentarily during this. Moments. Reflections. Beauty.
Her guitar always sounds fantastic. Always love the accordion, there was a guy named Nick Decaro that used to play on many recordings in the '70s and the '80s.

This is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. Mary Chapin Carpenter is something special & the harmonies by Aoife are heavenly.
Thank you ❤
Stopped me in my tracks.Amazing and beautiful.Aoife's harmonies are incomprehensible and miraculous.
Their vocals are simply perfect - Chapin, Aoife and Jerry blend beautifully. I call this a flawless performance overall.
This is the song you need to play in your head the whole time you're waiting at the airport going through TSA screening. Its much nicer than the actual experience. Love Aoife's harmony.
That beautiful Dobro is like the icing on a fine cake! A small slice of heaven right there!
A wonderful combination. Mary , Aoife and Jerry Douglas. It's just beautiful. Gentle, tuneful, and soft. Just magical. Gerry Farry.
"Don't be holding that line up - at the end lies redemption" Beautiful..
Yes indeed.

Love what Mary does with Open tunings. Such relaxing vibes. She’s a treasure.
God bless those who make music, they are the songbirds in the backyard.

One of the prettiest songs I have ever heard !
Simply beautiful. I'm lost for words, choked with tears.
Like most great music, this gets down to emotions I can't name and didn't know I had.

My God. It's like candy for me. Haven't seen Mary in years. Her voice still blows me away and Aoife such a wonderful new talent. Bravo!

Exquisite. The way Aoife's voice works around MCC's, adding depth and occasional forays up into the higher ranges. How beautiful does it get?
........
Mary, Aoife and Jerry...this is a real treat for the ears :-)
Love Mary Chapin Carpenter and Jerry Douglas. Am learning about Ms. O’Donovan, but she seems special, too.
Oh she is. She’s quite important. Does great things with Chris Thile and with I’m With Her.

I feel the same; I need to listen to "Stones in the Road" again. It's one of my favorite 90's albums.
Some of the best names in the business in your posting.
So beautiful. Another gem from my all time favorite singer/songwriter. In the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame and so richly deserved.
every time I pick up. laptop - I go straight to this song .. You make great pair performing - so gorgeous. Nigel
Aoife's harmony singing is no easy undertaking. MCC's talent shines through on every song she writes and sings.
Floating meaningful words on a simple melody touched by beauty. Thank you.
Transatlantic sessions is the best thing that has ever happened in music . If the whole world could sing together ......who knows what could happen 🌈
The Voice so beautiful - I love Mary's voice - So beautiful.

These musicians, music and lyrics....are simply wonderful. Very many thanks to you all.
MCC, have played this over and over again, thinking of our mutual friend Doug B. who left us. He truly loved your music.

Soft and mellow feeling.
Man...the poetry of life.

Mary Chapin has some body of work to show. Just a fantastic songwriter and artist and lucky to see her perform live a couple of times.
