So yes, this comment makes sense because Venice and northern Italy had less Arabic influence than their southern Italian counterparts but more German, Austrian and French influences and the Veneto even had a little Slovenian and Balkan influence more so than the rest of Italy. It was a very rich European culture and society indeed and they ought to be proud.
