As beautiful as that would be national geographic claims that the reports are fake. Apparently the pictures of the dolphins are from the mediterranean sea which is hundreds of miles away.

I remember during the lockdown help fresh the air was.
And I just live in a tiny town in Kansas, no more than 4,000 people, yet when I looked it up there was only a 30% drop in driving.
Now I can truly understand how clean the air would be if we all switched to electric vehicles or just e-bikes and electric public transit.
It's depressing though knowing that, because it's a long way off if it does ever happen.

I was under the impression The whole place was on piers and Pillars on top of iers and pillars, I wouldn't disagree with the rising cost of replacing such horrible infrastructure, not sure one could really do much about it anyway with weight, it would be hard as hell to jack up the whole city, doing it in sections would lead to settling and cracking and probably wind up worse in the long run, I'm sorry, but Venicians are kinda asking for the moon when they beg to save their sinking city, it simply isn't possible in my book, or the cost would outweigh the entire net worth of the country, whichevers first!

Venice began to sink due to the Italian government of the day increasing the opening of the lagoon to the Adriatic in the 1950s.
This and dredging the lagoon to allow tankers to enter and reach the industrial site to the west of the lagoon has caused this issue.
This is a disaster caused by greed, with no thought of culture, history or the people who called Venice home
The Italian Government should be taken to account

When we were about to return it started to rain. The next morning I was in Florence. I saw the news that the place I visited the day before was in knee-deep water due to rain. The whole city was underwater. I was like thank God I got to visit the place without any problem.

Wait,so a tiny church takes over a million stakes, yet the entire city sits on top of just over 10 million stakes.either they went overkill on stakes for the church or whoever calculated all the stakes used was heavily intoxicated.also vid says city sinks 0.4 inch a year and then later in vid says it sinks over a inch a century.again terrible maths,if the city sinking 0.4 inch a year,it certainly sinking more than a inch each century

When you say, Venice is drowning. Here is and example, Rialto bridge and the steps. You dont count in the tides? Even seasons here on Adriatic coast have plus meter to two meters difference between tides in August and January. That is not a clearcut evidence of drowning, just different times of tides while taking the picture. Every fall, tides get bigger, and rivers overflow, because the fall season, here on Medditerain is thre rainy season. I dive for living, so it is pretty obvious to us that this is not evidence of Venice getting into Adriatic sea.

Various solutions that come to mind to save Venice:
    1) Construction of concrete, waterproof pontoons using underwater mining techniques under buildings sitting on petrified wood foundations in Venice.
    This is a radical solution.
The higher the sea levels rise due to global warming, the higher Venice will rise with this measure.
However, in this option, the buildings will be disconnected from the foundation and their originality will be partially damaged in this way.
    2) Gradually raising the ground by injecting concrete under buildings and under petrified trees in Venice.
For this process, it is possible to inject not only concrete but also deeper water.
In this way, there will be an opportunity to temporarily save time.
And since the buildings are not disconnected from the foundation, there will be no problem of originality.
    3) The rise in sea level will be monitored, and the flooded ground floors will be abandoned to the sea, and Venice will be used for accommodation until the 1st and, in time, the 2nd floors are also flooded.
Perhaps, 30-40 years later, all of Venice will be under water and Venice will now be an underwater historical asset, limited to diving tourism, to watching from the surface with boats suitable for sub-pancakes.
While Venice gradually disappears under water over time, an imitation Venice built on concrete pontoons can be built in the lagoon, similar to the first option suitable for the Venice concept.
And in this way, the Venetian spirit is somehow kept alive.
In the final analysis, I am absolutely certain of that.
Venice will be largely submerged before the end of the century.
Historical buildings and everything in them will be destroyed due to the damage of salt water.
If no recovery work is done.
I am in favor of the first solution that is difficult, expensive and requires technological innovations.
I want Venice to be a floating city that will exist for centuries to come, and most importantly, a living city.

Kinda shocked me as it's supposed to be popular tourist spot, but then again it's a floating city, what did I expect? Yes, that happened. Historically low snowfall in the alps, another consequence of climate change, that year meant historically low flow into the lagoon, so at low tide some canals went dry. But flooding is a much more serious long-term threat to the city because of sea-level rise.

as a venetian ( a person who live in venice) we know that our city is very fragile but we managed to create a sistem that would block or atleast mitigate the entrance of water during "acqua alta" in italian or floods. wer have our metods to know when the floods is coming: its based on the wind and it might be floods if it is "sirocco" we also have sirens and based on how many times it sing you get the level: 1 siren low 2 medium 3 average 4 above average but it not cause major issue and 5 is high like 1.60 and above. 3 years ago before covid the biggest flood since the 80' ( im not sure about the year but it know that this one was the 2nd bigger floods ever recorded) basically i had a friend that would go around on his boat on the pedestrian part " fondamenta". Most of the shops lost everything that was at the street level. btw venetian ahs personal protection against this for example you can put a slate of steel if the water is low like it arrives at your ankle or a bit above but it lets you get in and out whithout being bstacled by it. you can wear a simil boots pant which covered your lower body till your torso.
i'm seeing a lot of comment saying that the "mose" has took too long to be built anda lot of people took avantage of it making a lot of money which is true but in the end it kinda works so... meh?
in the end we are doomed to extinct becasue people are leaving the city for better jobs om the land and the venetian government doesn't really care about creating new jobs and opportunes for its citizen, i really love this city i've lived there since i was born but the lack of opportunites for the youth so if the young people leave the rest of the city si destinated to end bc there is no one coming next.
and yes after the lockdown a lot of animals arrived but i heard that someone killed the ducks near the station with pesticide which is disgusting bc like wtf bro they are ducks ??? personally i had never seen dolphin but there ares some video about it maybe its in another "sestiere" the city is devided on setieri like as a venetian you evaluate yours and some local gangs decide to stab eachother to control nothing but yes we are very territorial and also extrimily racist towards non-venetian citizen like if you are a tourisrt you are welcome but if you come from the countryside you will get called "terrone" which mean someone who came from the fields its like callng someone black the n word so its better not say it. its really derogatory towards countyside homies.

Leveling the city out is easy . Lower the high side by removing water from that side. Injecting cement along with sea water sounds pretty good.

You also see inflatable tubes that look like natural gas tanks from a distance that assists holding buildings up. In a movie we got a chance 2 see them as a bullet comes out of a gun causing them to release the air and the place sinks. If I'm not mistaken it was in a bond film. Action movie I'm sure of tho. Been a while since I seen it.

I firmly believe that Venice is not sinking. It is just a matter of solving the siltation that canals, rivers and oceans undergo. They have become shallow due to thrash, garbage, and objects that sink onto it. Thus the usual volume of water that it use to contain is lessened forcing the excess water to spill out from it or exceed its usual normal water level. Meaning the need for DREDGING. We should avoid using the word SINKING as this word might create a negative impression to most people.

It seems like it would be better to close the three openings to the lagoon permanently, and to transform it into a freshwater lake which would be pumped out into the Adriatic, almost like a water polder. Or just move the population of the city and abandon Venice, frankly.
