As an Iowan, it was awesome that a creator I follow recommended the University of Iowa's Bible & Archaeology page. Cities of the Bible has been a very enjoyable course so far. I look forward to reading the book after I finish watching the course.

While watching a character in a movie pray to Mary I realized the Catholic god isn't a trinity, it is a quaternity.

18:45 And here’s me thinking that this was indisputable proof, from the mouth of Jesus, that time travel into the past is possible, and that one member of the group he was talking to owned a time machine.

There are a lot of problems in 1 Samuel
-the atrocious behavior of anointed king to be, even working as a mercenary in the army of his enemy.
-the sins committed that were never repented for.
-the fact that Samuel prophesized that their kings will be bad, not once but thrice.
Those problems are bad, these are worse Samuel appears to be waxing nostalgically about a prior period which if you carefully read judges and understand anything about near eastern culture was thoroughly polytheistic. In fact there is no evidence that there was a Yahweh god outside of the southern Aravah. This seems to indicate that Samuel was a priest of El, not YHWH. One of the key indicators here is that El was a mountaintop wilderness god, he was kind of pushed away from Ebla by the Akkadians and hence did not have temples. When David tries to install the ark of the Covenent in the temple, what was the response.
So we have essentially two gods of the Davidic kingdom. But the problem is worse than that. If you read kings carefully and look at regional gods there is not one
𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 but several, the god at bethel appears to be represented by a golden calf, the one in Samaria has a wife, Asherah. The god in Judea also appears to have the same wife, the god on the road to Yemen also has the same wife, and the god of the Edomite goes by the name Qos. There were many flavors of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 at that time.
And so the question is which god through which prophet made what promise to the kings of Judea.
Then we have another problem, Israel appears to have been run by king Omri, who appears not to be a Davidic king, and at some point his descendants he appears to replace the Davidic king in Jerusalem.
All in all the prophetic teaching in Samuel regarding future kings of Jeruselem seems to be at cross purposes with the judge. Why does a priest of El involve himself with kings of petty city states. Their goal was to extend the confederation which they oversaw.
