PS. Is it just me or do many of us Americans prefer UA-camrs with beautiful accents?!?!??? I often joke with my husband “ No one wants to hear the grating twang of a Westerner when they can choose from a variety of beautiful accents!”

What a lovely subtle effect - you have a real eye for colour. I love that cutter - metal ones always have a little overlap that spoils the edge. You always find such brilliant products 👍❤️

Thank you Val. This was an excellent video. In fact, it's another to go on my bucket list of techniques to try. From previous videos, I purchased the varnish mentioned here and loved it. In my case, I had required a satin finish and it was both easy to apply, without disturbing the mica, and also left a lovely streak free finish, so thank you for yet another great tip. PS - hopefully this will make you laugh. I have tried on three occasions to watch this video and fell asleep before 5 mins passed EVERY time!! I've always wanted to use this phrase..."it's not you, it's me" 😂😻

Beautiful! Another way you could do this is to just put the mica powder all over the area you want, not just in the grooves.. it doesn't have to be neat and then after it's baked or I guess before you can use some Inka Gold paste with your finger to just put it all over on top... Great job as always tho ❤

great video and thanks for taking the time to make it for us.. here;s a lil tip tho.. put some Popsicle sticks or something beside your clay to roll your pattern out . you will get even pressured indentations that way and you can always adjust the depth be stacking your sicks higher or lower.. "if you want perfect patterns anyways. otherwise this is still nice being a random pattern :)

Another great tutorial. As a newby, I am devouring anything polymer clay and yours are right at the top of my list. I have been acquiring tools and have some textured rolling pins but I am unable to find the 'deco fan' roller that you use in this tutorial...not on Amazon UK, Etsy, Ebay, Pinterest. Is it too much, too late, to ask for you to put this information in you 'Show More' section? Your information and tutorials have been an inspiration. Thank you for all your effort.
It's a Kor Roller... I think if you Google it you'll find an outlet. xx
Hi Val, I’ve a bunch of these Kor Rollers from KorTools and I find it easier to roll it across my clay with a stamping block . Especially those with rubber textures glued on one side of the wooden block . The friction of the rubber texture helps control the roller and makes rolling a breeze ;-)

Love your videos. They are funny and informative. For the Kor rollers, I use a piece of wood that measures 7" x 2.5". I hot glued some thin styrofoam from a carry out container on one side to provide something for the roller to grip onto. I got the wood from the Salvation Army store for about 25 cents, but I got the idea from a laminate flooring sample from Home Depot.
I had the same problem with the black rollers and someone told me to use a large red rubber stamp to roll it and it worked for me!
Lesley Kuhn I wondered whether the roller would be easier to roll evenly if an acrylic block was used? I don't have any rollers to try it out on, but it sounds plausible to me!
I tried with my acrylic block but it slipped a bit, the rollers are hard plastic (or feel like it). I don't have any large mounted rubber stamps, but maybe I could tape something that grips to the underside of my acrylic block temporarily... :D
Have you tried a bit of Alcohol with the mica powders? It makes the issue of loose powder a non-issue, would allow you the flexibility to control the saturation of the pigments, and allow blending of pigments if desired. The alcohol will not affect the pigment and dries fairly quickly.
Hmmm... interesting idea. I'm not sure if it would help but somebody might try it!
Hi Thank you for making this tutorial, I was wondering if I could get similar result using embossing folder (just one side of it) and guilding paste... trying to use what I already have :-)
People do use embossing folders... My advice is to do a little experiment.
Hi, Val, I have a technical question for you: Once polymer clay is cured and sealed, is it waterproof? I had the mad idea to make a sink stopper with it.
It just has to be cured - it's PVC.

Such is the quality of knock-off washi tape. Which is prevalent in the Western market thanks to places like Amazon, Etsy, and eBay to name a few, but mostly by private sellers. I've found knock offs in regular brick and mortar stores that are supposed to be selling high end products. They certainly have the high-end prices...lol.

Hi loved this video can I ask how do you add the varnish so that the mica doesn’t mix. Every time I use mica on polymer clay it looks lovely until it comes to putting a coating on top.
If you use Perfect Pearls they contain something that bonds them extra well to the clay, during baking. Some mica powders look fine under varnish but the really iridescent nail powders just go dull and ugly. It's probably worth baking a few little testers, so that you can experiment.

Have you tried putting mica powder directly on the rollers first then roll it on the clay? did the mica sticked on the clay?
I only have white sculpey polymer clay, do you think it would work if I put a design on it and then painted it a dark color before putting pigment powder on it? I love your videos!😁
I don't know if it would bond to paint... I know it's a pain but make a sample and try it. xx
Hi did you say you used that varnish on the finished clay? Can you tell me what it is and where you get it? I have for many years used pledge floor revive/polish, it's fine for smaller things but for large it's rather runny and makes a right mess. P!us my husband has got sick of the sell lol poor wee thing that he isn't lol Have you tried using stencils with the mica, it works really well, worth a try. Hugs x Ann x

If you use "Perfect Pearls" they contain an additive that binds to the clay.

Absolutely! That's the way to do it, as it helps to adhere the mica to the clay.

What do you call the work surface you’re using? I cannot seem to find such an item in craft stores.
It's a large ceramic tile, like you might have on a bathroom wall. It's a great surface to work on and you can put it in the oven.

Do you fire the clay?
Polymer clay can be baked (cured) in a normal home oven, or even a toaster oven. It cures at a fairly low temp and if you look online you'll be able to get brand specific advice.
Thought it was a cigarette case looks reaaly nice would make a beautiful cigarette case.

It's a Cake Boss one - really sturdy, lots of sizes but a bit expensive. I got mine on Amazon. xx
