Thank you for another good presentation. Due to the geographical and dialectical dispersion of the Luo I think we need an online LuoPedia to capture the anthropology of the Luo to better understand and connect our origins, dispersion, distinctiveness and diversity in the forms of our existence across the regions and countries that we occupy. There are a few write ups from individuals like the Late Okot p’ Bitek of Uganda Acoli, Bethwell Ogot (Kenyan Luo), Kon K Madut of South Sudan amongst other eminent Luo scholars. An online LuoPedia will crowdsource and bring all the information in one place.

Actually the transaction that divided the Alur, is the same one that divided the Acoli. Part of the Alur and other people in West Nile were given to the British in exchange for part of the Acoli being given to what is now South Sudan in 1910-14

Say it as it should be, if Britons took into consideration peoples ethnicity and language the Luos would be in one country, a country that would stretch from Kartuom(Khartoum now) all the way to the uper mara regions in tanzania and wide from north Eastern DRC all the way to Kisumu, with a population of over 25 million people. Am hopeful we will soon call for a proper border audit of Africa and finally the this man will be free. The Briton borders did not favor us and now we are colonised by fellow black men... but am hopeful soon that will change.

Hi Ayaa.. Jaber, an gi penjo. It's said that Luos got their name from following the river or fishing in the river.! Can't get the facts right on this). But my question is, what was the original name of Luos? I understand Luos were farmers before anthrax (opere) ravaged all their animals and therefore our ancestors resorted to fishing. How were Luos called before they ventured into finishing or started following the river?
