      Not very successful I think. People don’t really appreciate a good voice accompanied with a good story. It’s a shame but true

    When I was a teenager, My Dad, Adell, would at bedtime, put the Marty Robbins eight track on an play it over and over until he fell asleep. He still loves to listen to all of those extraordinary cowboy ballads from an extraordinary vocalist such as his favorite, Marty Robbins !!!

      Hey John, I'm an Aussie too. I hope some rediscovers this..I listen to it regularly. He looks so happy singing about what is, in fact, a melancholy subject. It's so lovely. :)

    my late father passed away in 1995 and his favorite singer was Marty Robbins - he loved the songs El Paso and Cool Water. Thanks very much for posting this video.

    In the mid 70's aged about 10, i met Marty back stage at the Horden Pavillion in Sydney Australia. He was really cool, talked to me for about 10 min and posed for photos with me and my dad....great singer too. I always loved the red album with him dressed in black, crouching with his 6 shooter...ahhh the memories.

    These guys were so great! I really believe they enjoyed each other's company! Marty was a one of a kind artist, as were Bobby and Don. They're all gone now and they just don't make singers like this anymore. R.I.P.

    I remember my father singing this song on stage when I was a prepubescent child.
    He had a great singing voice, he was a semi professional, (he was a paid singer, but music was not his main income) and this was one of his all time favorite songs.

    When I was a kid, we used to go camping in the NCHA. We were the Happy Wanderers. Nights the five or six families would gather around the fire and this was one of the songs we sang. The father in one of the families played guitar and knew all kinds of really nifty songs.

    my uncle in colrado ,played this for me im 44 now i have not heard this since i was around 11 yrs old,when he played this for me ..a real contrast of my other relative in colarado that played the seeds....i still love the seeds...old 60,s garage..but this song always stuck in my head..love u tube.. its cool to look up old songs and go through those old memories...cool water..this song makes u thirsty on a hot day

    My dad had a cassette of Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs when I was a kid, and I used to listen to that thing over and over again, this one or Big Iron were my favorites back then.

    the one on the left is don winters and the the one on the right is bobby sykes. both great singers and friends of marty;s. both have passed away.

    My favorite cover of this wonderful song is sung by Tom Jones. I used to listen to it here on YT every day and now I miss it so much since You Tube removed it because of copyright issues!

    I've always enjoyed Marty. He reminds me of my dad, even. But, now that I'm older, it kind of bothers me that he switched the last line of the verse from the original, "...waiting there for me and you" to "...waiting there for you and me". I mean, Dan's a mule, fer cryin' out loud. And the "Yooooooooouuuuuu" sounds so good drifting over the audience at a warm evening concert. Like coyotes howling.
    I'm sure it was some slick Hollywood executive's idea. "Hey! That doesn't rhyme. People like things that rhyme. Rhymes sell, sell sell!" So, you and me it is.
    Go ahead and discuss this amongst yourselves. Love you Marty!

    The man wrote El Paso from the front seat of his family station wagon as they traveled West Texas. A true "Cowboy" singer, not many left. Check out "the Sons of San Joaquin".

      He lived off Franklin Road in Country Roads Estates. We played in is house after it started sliding down the hill.

      I don't remember. The house was demolished and many years later someone built on the exact same location. Still standing today.
