i really love that slip dress and think it looks great with the turtle neck...i hear you about the straps...you can either zigzag/straight stitch along length and they will lose some of the stretch and for your next just interface or do a decorative stitch. i do that to my belts on wrap dresses that are continuous with neck band...they always stretch out to past my knees lol
Wow! Nice work on the dress shirt! Your precise details made the lines all line up and it looks amazing! Great fabric choice! I agree about taking out the front pockets,..making the shirt sag or extra bulky wouldn’t have been nice. Love the crisp, clean look!! 😍
Hi Cath 👋 I’m a bit late watching this week ! My goodness, hasn’t your Paper Theory shirt turned out well ? You must be delighted. It obviously took a lot of patience to work through the fiddly bits. Well done you ! I love to see your children’s projects whether it’s dolls’ dresses or cute knitted items, what a lovely mummy you are 😊 You ask what we’re all sewing, so, I’m in the middle of another Lyra for the summer, in some very pretty fabric from a Beyond the Pink Door subscription box a while back. I have also cut also out a shirt for my husband using the McCalls M 6044, which is tried and tested and always looks nice and fits well. Have a good week Cath 😊xx
Hi Shelly, thanks so much, I’m really pleased with how the shirt turned out, I’m definitely glad I took time on it. A Lyra for summer sounds lovely - it’s not a pattern I’ve tried yet but I’d like to. Hope you enjoy sewing it and the shirt for your husband too. Hope you have a lovely week too 🥰xx
Thank you Cath. Your children must love having such a talented Mummy. Your Olya shirt is fabulous. An Ogden hack dress with the floral fabric would be great, you could have horizontal flowers on the top and vertical floral stripes on the gathered skirt.
I like to use leftover fabric to make a quick-to-sew Elizabeth Suzann Georgia top. Even if I feel like I’m just using up the fabric for the sake of not stashing it, my Georgias get a lot of wear because they’re light and airy and easy to layer. They’re also great for vacation since they look smart and don’t take up a lot of valuable suitcase space.
I love your Olya shirt! You did a fantastic job. I think shorts with the leftover striped fabric would be great. The striped shirt and matching shorts co-ord set was very on trend last summer and may be again, and if not, you can wear them separately. I know what you mean about sometimes finding the second piece feels like an afterthought and doesn't get as much wear, but this fabric is so lovely and classic that it's not like it would be with a very distinctive, say floral, pattern. They'd be so cute as PJs/loungewear if nothing else. I'd use any elastic waist trouser pattern you have that you like the fit of, like the Saguaro or Safiya. You could play with the stripe direction on the waistband or pocket facings, maybe adding cuffs, etc.
Thank you very much re the Olya shirt! That’s a really good point about the fabric being more classic than a distinctive print, thank you so much for your thoughts on it 😊
Hi Cath great video as always And your outfit of the day is also lovely Your blouse is so pretty perhaps you could make something for your daughter with the leftover fabric and some little dresses for the 2 dolls How cute are the knitting projects I love those colours together that your daughter has chosen Have a lovely sewing week and a lovely day tomorrow I’m just finishing my striped jumper I think I said that last week but it’s nearly done now so I’ll be looking forward to starting something new Take care xx❤️❤️❤️❤️
Hi Paula Thanks oh yes my daughter would love to twin with her dolls! Thanks I’m looking forward to sewing Danger dog’s little outfit 😊 Hope you have a good week and find a fun new project once you’ve finished your striped jumper xx ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Hi Cath my jumper is finished Turned out well I was pleased Yes I’ve been making a start on a new knitting project a chunky jacket so I’ll be working on that tonight I’ve also been sorting a new cross stitch project Never enough hours in the day Cath See you next week xx❤️❤️❤️❤️
I think the striped fabric will look great as shorts! I don’t have any particular pattern ideas but I think it would look cool to have the stripes going vertically on one leg and horizontal on the other 😊
Your shirt choices were spot on. I know exactly what you mean about the interfacing on the button placket when you tuck in. I wonder if your daughter would wear the striped leftovers as either a slip style dress, overall style shorts or simple elastic waist pants for summer? Your dolls' clothes have turned out wonderfully. I can see an entire wardrobe in their future.
The Helens closet orchard top/dress has bias bound armholes and straps similar to the saltwater, and it has some interfacing added to the strap part to reinforce it
I love your Olya shirt. I have only just been looking at that pattern. So funny to see you've just made it😊. I was also thinking with your beautiful floral fabric, how about another slip dress like the one you are wearing. I was also thinking of an Ogden as you mentioned it. I love your channel and how you use all your fabrics. You really are inspirational to me and my habits. I hope you have a lovely weekend ❤ 💗
Thank you very much 😊 I hope you enjoy the Olya too if you give it a go. That fabric would make a lovely slip dress, thank you for the suggestion. I hope you had a lovely weekend too 🥰❤️
I just received my lovely stripe fabric from Joel & Son and wondered what I should make with it when I saw your shirt and liked it straight away. I don't have the exact pattern, however I have a shirt pattern which I can alter. My plan is to cut the front and back piece where your pockets would have been and this way will have stripes running horizontally as opposed to the bottom piece. Then do away with the seam joining sleeve and the fronts and back and have one long continuous piece. I don't know if this piece is shaped or just slightly narrowed at the bottom where cuffs will be attached later. I think it will work, I'll try it first with a different fabric. Don't want to buy more patterns when I have loads already. Thanks for the inspiration.
Cath I have been thinking of making myself a set of shorts withmaching shirt and I think your striped material would e perfect for that. Love the shot and slip dress. I live in Australia and love to watch all you British sewist
I love the shirt Cathy , I agree with the interfacings. It would make it too stiff to do both sides. Re the left over piece , I feel like you do , if it is left over and make something I else I just know I wouldn't wear it. The floral piece maybe make a summer dress with the pattern side ways on the full skirt and a top with pattern down ways. Myself this week I've made Kwiksew pyjamas in a cotton linen mix they turned out well. I have discovered how to use my one step button hole tool. Oh how great that is. Enjoy your weekend. Love the dog too. 😊
What about making a top, dress, or romper for your daughter in the striped linen. I personally like a romper for her but really whatever you could get out of the fabric you have left.
Beautiful makes, as always, Cath. Thanks for sharing your Freya tweaks, that's very helpful and I look forward to learning your hem tricks too! I was thinking the same as a few others - the linen would be lovely as shorts for you or a dress/romper for your daughter. It could also work well as a tote bag! The floral would be lovely as a summer dress - horizontal on the skirt and vertical on the bodice could be fun!
Thank you very much! Oh yes a tote bag would be really cute in the linen too! Thanks yes I think the floral would be really nice to play with the stripes 😊
Your shirt looks fab! I like the midi length saltwater slip dress, too. It looks good on you ! I am not a knitter, but I always enjoy seeing what you are doing with yarn. The toys are adorable, and your clothing items always look wonderful! Have a lovely week, and I'll 'see' you next Saturday! LOL
Wow, Cath! what a beautiful job you did on the shirt! My vote is for the Ogden cami in the stripe, and the Ogden cami dress for the floral. Both would be beautiful and useful. Well done! Cute doll things, too!
Really nice stripey shirt. I see the extra stripe fabric as paper bag shorts, which you can wear separately from shirt as well as together. The floral fabric would look nice with the stripes going vertical, and maybe you could wear together with shirt you already made in that pattern.
Thank you, I think paper bag shorts are a really good option for the leftover striped fabric. Yes that would be great to be able to wear the floral fabric with the shirt I already made. Thank you
Hello Cath, I’ve made the saltwater slip quite a lot now and have left the sliders off as I used thicker linen fabric that wouldn’t go through. As a result I just had the straps exactly the length I wanted without and adjustment option. Has taken a few attempts but think I’ve got it right now as before the straps flopped off my shoulder.
Regarding the straps on the salt-whistle that stretches out, I wander if some interfacing to a section of the strap, like in the Orchid slip dress from Helen’s Closet, may help out for your next make, and do away with those finicky lingerie rings that always slide out on me. Only the section of the strap that goes over the shoulder is interfaced, leaving the part of the bias binding that goes under arm and connected to the dress, not interfaced. This prevents stretching. Because you’ve made one, you can measure out the straps for your next make. It looks lovely on you though, love the fabric😊
Love your saltwater slip! So pretty. A shame about the straps - I feel like the curve isn't too deep on the armhole to cut the straps not on the bias. Tricky problem
Hi Cath! I think the Ogden Cami peplum hack that Sally from Secret Life of a did would look really nice in your left over striped fabric. I hope you have enough of your flower fabric for the Ogden Cami dress hack. Looking forward to what you come up with.
Love your Olya shirt! Thank you for sharing all the details. The doll clothes turned out lovely as well as the adorable knitted dog.
Thank you very much! 😊
That’s good to keep in mind about the Saltwater straps…the one I made is in linen + doesn’t have the stretching problem!😮
A linen saltwater sounds lovely! That’s good to know the straps haven’t stretched on it
Slip dress is lovely and your shirt is so well made 🎉❤
Thank you so much ❤️
You are a little ray of sunshine and brighten up UA-cam.
Thank you so much 😊

Maybe bind the dress with the fabric on the bias, then add the straps separately cut on the grain?
Thank you for the tips on the straps that’s really helpful!

Thank you very much! ❤️ I’m glad I left the pockets off too 😊
Thanks for sharing Cath. 💙🧶🌈🍓
Thanks Jenny 🥰❤️💙
You done a lovely job on your shirt it looks lovely ..... well done 😊

I'm all for a shirt- short set. More tailored, even cuffed! Also I've seen that fabric as a flowy sulmmer skirt! Ciao
Thank you very much 😊
The shirt is really striking. Nice!
Thank you very much!

Thank you, I hadn’t thought of using the leftover for my daughter 😊 I am enjoying sewing the tiny dolls clothes 😊
The Helens closet orchard top/dress has bias bound armholes and straps similar to the saltwater, and it has some interfacing added to the strap part to reinforce it
Ah brilliant that’s really good to know, I think I definitely need to do that next time, thank you

Thank you very much 😊 a matching shirt and shorts that can be worn together or separately with other items would be nice 😊
Great job on the striped shirt. It is so well made. The Ogden Cami pattern seems perfect for the floral.
Thank you very much 😊
Love the animals you knit for your children, you are so talented. The shirt you made is so pretty!
Thank you very much! 😊
Love your shirt.. fantastic job .. wow ...your knitted animals look amazing.. I'm sure the kids will love them for a long time.

Cotton linen mix pyjamas sound lovely and comfy 😊 a one step buttonhole tool is super handy isn’t it! I love mine too.

Thank you, I’m really happy with how it turned out ❤️
Your shirt looks quite impressive. I especially like the way you did the front placket.
Thank you very much 😊
Love your videos 🤗 Thank you 👏
Thank you so much 🤗
Hello Cath, I’ve made the saltwater slip quite a lot now and have left the sliders off as I used thicker linen fabric that wouldn’t go through. As a result I just had the straps exactly the length I wanted without and adjustment option. Has taken a few attempts but think I’ve got it right now as before the straps flopped off my shoulder.
That’s a good plan for the saltwater straps. I think I might leave the sliders off for my next version too.
Dye the striped remnant a darker color, to use for shorts? The stripes will still show of course but you will have a completely new look.
Thank you for the suggestion, I hadn’t thought of dyeing the fabric, that would be a great way of making it different for a new look!
Regarding the straps on the salt-whistle that stretches out, I wander if some interfacing to a section of the strap, like in the Orchid slip dress from Helen’s Closet, may help out for your next make, and do away with those finicky lingerie rings that always slide out on me. Because you’ve made one, you can measure out the straps for your next make. It looks lovely on you though, love the fabric😊
Thank you very much, I think some interfacing on that section of the binding is a great idea. I definitely will do it differently next time 😊
Love your saltwater slip! So pretty. A shame about the straps - I feel like the curve isn't too deep on the armhole to cut the straps not on the bias. Tricky problem
Thank you very much, I really like it too, if I can solve the straps issue it’ll be perfect
I am watching while making the north point trousers last night i finished the kuutar sweater by sari nordlund .just wanted to say love your vlogs ❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much 😊❤️❤️❤️ I haven’t come across either of those patterns, I’m off to have a look at them now! Happy sewing 😊
Your Olya shirt looks great. I am interested in how you you did the curved hem, but I think that you have forgotten to aď the link to your blog post.
Thank you! Oh sorry yes I did forget, I’ll add it now!
Just added it, thank you for reminding me 😊
Hi Cath! I think the Ogden Cami peplum hack that Sally from Secret Life of a did would look really nice in your left over striped fabric. I hope you have enough of your flower fabric for the Ogden Cami dress hack. Looking forward to what you come up with.
Hi there oh yes a peplum hack of the Ogden cami would be really cute!
Thanks I have my fingers crossed for the floral fabric! 😊
That stripe shirt looks great. Would the fabric work for napkins, kitchen towels, or a shopping bag?
Thank you, oh yes those are good options thank you!
Do you have enough of the linen stripe fabric for a sun dress or top for your little girl? It would make a very cute summer dress.
That would be very cute, thank you, I will check
Hey :) I love the Olya shirt
Thank you very much 😊 good luck with trying out the Agnes t-shirt, hope you can find just the right t-shirt pattern for you 😊
Hi Cath, thanks for another nice vlog. Why don’t you make a shorts and top set for your daughter with the leftover shirt fabric? Katrina x
Hi Katrina, thank you, you’re right it would make a lovely summer set for my daughter x
