Thank you. As an Eastern Catholic who is starting to embrace the original Orthodox Fast I found this very helpful in my understanding of its historical context.

In the Bible, you could eat meat. In fact, in the Old Testament certain animals were sacrificed. But during fasting you fast like a vegan.

Thank you for this wonderful video. I have a bit of confusion over some of this if anyone wouldn't mind answering some questions:
    > God permitted man to eat flesh following the fall because they couldn't meet the high standard. But why did God continue to demand burnt offerings, and for Jews to consume the flesh of the sacrificed lamb during Passover?
    > Did carnivorous and omnivorous animals appear post-fall? Did they not eat meat, and therefore kill and cause death, pre-fall?
Thanks, and Glory to Jesus Christ

But have a question for you .
how about people who are insulin resistance, pre diabetic , diabetic Type 2,1,and 3
without even knowing that they have this condition until too late .
those people are the majority of humans living on earth today
your recommendation to abstain from eating animal product during fasting period
according to the Coptic Church tradition , fasting extend to most of the days of the year
so, what people eat during this extended fasting days
they eat high carb, pasta, rice, potatoes, legumes, lots of sweets, lots of fruits, low quality oil.
    to be continued....... ......

There is always an element of economia in the life of the Church. One should address their specific health issues with their spiritual father and come up with a rule that would be feasible and edifying for the individual. The point of fasting in never to simply 'do as told'.

How does dairy fit into this understanding of fasting and Creation/Recreation? The production and consumption of dairy doesn’t require killing animals. While pre-fallen man may not have eaten it, would he have even if he didn’t fall? Will we eat it in the world to come?

humanity is spirtually connected to the animal kingdom
    That is an interesting statement
    What does it mean ?
And if I may ask then why God allowed millions and millions of animals to be slaughtered as sacrifices
If humanity should have compassion towards the creation which includes the animals then we'd expect God's compassion towards animals to not change as well, meaning how He would not only allow humans to eat meat but allow them to slaughter millions and millions of animals as sacrifices
I could be wrong but I think the relationship between our fasting being vegan and our care for creation including animals is an arguable point and not very convincing
    Forgive me.

The Old Testament post-fall commandments and statues were catered for that fallen humanity. God went down to their level. The same with allowing animals as food after the flood.

Eating animals should be immoral. Unfortunately Christianity has given allowance for humans to abuse and slaughter hundreds of billions of helpless animals every year, and it's incredibly difficult to subscribe to Christianity which gives allowance to something the mind and heart feels very strongly against.
Also, many of the popular Orthodox Christian channels I've come across on UA-cam also oppose veganism, so it's quite interesting to see the contrast between your channel and theirs. Not only do these Orthodox Christians oppose veganism, but actually go out of their way to create arguments that attempt to reduce animals to mindless automatons that can't suffer or feel pain. I can name those channels if you like, but you probably already know.

    • @CopticOrthodoxAnswers
      @CopticOrthodoxAnswers  10 місяців тому +2

It is not Christianity that has given allowance but the current human nature. This is independent of religion. Like anything else in Christianity, Christ doesn’t enforce or impose but each has to come to it willingly.

      Thank you for the response.
That's the first time I have heard it stated like that.
All Christian Orthodox channels I've listened to explicitly state and argue that Christianity gives humans allowance to use animals the way they see fit. Only exception is periods of fasting.
One other thing I've heard Orthodox argue, is that even when it comes to animal cruelty, the cruelty has nothing to do with the animal itself, but the act committed by person. So even in the extreme case, there is no actual moral consideration for the animal.
