    That surfer EQ looks dope, It solves an issue we all to run into daily that isn't otherwise easy to deal with, unlike most plugins that are just another option for something already available (but possibly called something weird and confusing just to sound different lol).

    • @warpacademy
      @warpacademy  10 місяців тому +2

      Yes! ^^^^^ this exactly. It's not a "me too!" plugin. It really does solve a common issue and save time. One of my subscribers @skbass4842 below mentioned the Antares Auto-Tune Vocal EQ can do this as well and mentioned it works better, so check that out as well. I just installed it. Cheers!

    I haven't dug into surfer EQ before... I'm stubborn for doing more manual work. But maybe I should give it a day and read through the manual and understand its intricacy;

    • @warpacademy
      @warpacademy  10 місяців тому

      I respect any man who starts with "I should read the manual"! Spoken like a true engineer and I'm sure that's a big part of why your videos are so solid and on point. Worth a shot I think mate! Although I love a good set of precise manual automation, often times my clients don't have the budget or I don't have the time to fuss with that in situations like this. So having a tool like this in the kit has proven useful! Also, I haven't used it myself yet, but @skbass4842 mentioned Antares Autotune EQ also does this, but perhaps even better. Cheers and nice to see ya around the channel.

    Ah cool, I was wondering when this vid was coming!
    So happy you enjoy using the Nugen plug in, and are using it in your normal workflow now. It's a real powerful tool in certain situations, and has one of the most natural sounding algorithms when used subtly, but also has the ability to really push stuff.
    It doesn't work on everything, but when it does work it does something no other plugin does, at least not this well (I mean it will work on everything, but might not be the right choice for everything).
    The "ITD fill" button (which adds another layer of sound to thicken the widening effect, probably some variation of hass I would imagine) is the only non mono compatible setting on the thing according to the manual (just so you are aware). It also only really works when added in slightly. If you push ITD fill, at higher settings it gets lost in the main effect after a certain point.

    • @warpacademy
      @warpacademy  10 місяців тому +1

      I love it! Yeah, you get full credit for introducing me to this plugin. Thanks! I've been in touch with NUGEN now and will be doing an interview soon with one of their product specialists for the channel. I appreciate the tip.
      Sounds like you really know this plugin inside and out. It's a bit complex to wrap your head around and I've read over the manual several times now. Sounds like YOU should do a video on this! I'd certainly tune in.

    • @DaftFader
      @DaftFader 10 місяців тому +1

      @@warpacademy Can't wait for that interview. I really rate Nugens design philosophy. They seems to only make very utility focused plugins, but they some how make them feel creative to use, which is a really hard thing to do. Normally the super creative plugins have limited real world use (and I find are often very clunky, unpredictable and not very intuitive, despite trying to boost creative flow), and utility plugins can easily feel boring and sterile to use.
      They somehow managed to make super useful, indepth yet easy to get started using plugins, whilst still feeling like you are being creative when using most of them. 👍

    • @warpacademy
      @warpacademy  10 місяців тому +1

      Brilliant. Yeah, that's definitely a great thing when they can combine form and function to make tools that are fun to use. Stay tuned for the interview. Will be coming up in March.

    Hi, watching your video, I'm wondering why you say 350Hz is better than 250Hz in your case, but when you go back to the previous settings, it's clearly 250Hz you chose on your mix. Is this a mistake or am I missing something? And I just wanna ask why while during the bongo work you didn't tune it to the song ? That's for me the main problem of this sound for note be sitting well in the mix . What you think ? Thx. Very helpfull various thechnics all over your videos that helps sometime to enlarge my knowledge horizon. Peace

      Hey hey. They’re really quite close especially considering the Q value. I think I had one set from my real mix and then one set for the tutorial example.
      And no you don’t always tune it to the song.

    What headphones are those? How do they compare to the LCD 5s?

    • @warpacademy
      @warpacademy  10 місяців тому +1

      These are Verum Audio Verum 1s. I also own the LCD-5s. The LCD-5s have far better build quality, as one would expect for the price difference. Both are light and comfortable. The Verums don't come with a case, the cups are made of plastic with a "wood look", but at least the ear pads are leather (I think) or perhaps convincing pleather. The LCD-5 is like a Lamborghini; it's carbon fiber, space age materials, lambskin leather, aluminum hard case. In terms of tuning, the Verums have deeper bass extension due to the larger membranes, and they're brighter than the LCD-5s. The LCD-5 has a very accurate and realistic sound stage, a nice balanced tuning, if a touch dark at the very top. Some users have reported issues with channel imbalance with the Verum 1s, but mine seem fine after fairly long-term use.

    • @warpacademy
      @warpacademy  2 місяці тому +1

      I've noticed a trend on my channel. The people who post the most critical stuff about production or mixing almost never have any of their own music published online. It's so easy to sit back and take pot shots at other people's work when you're not actually in the industry, doing what we do. If you actually have your own music out there, that's great. But if you're like most people who just drop critical comments without having the skills themselves, then consider directing your energy towards your own art.
