  • Philip 16 years Old is starting races at the F.I.S circuit. Here is his first ever participation of 2 Races at a World Cup Course in Giant Slalom: Flying Mile, Tremblant 2023.
In Giant Slalom discipline, Rule of F.I.S for Continental and above levels racing are: Men must ski on 193cm skis with 30+ meters radius. For younger athletes starting they have the choice between 188cm and 193cm.
Difficult and very icy and shiny first part of the course where more than half of 140 racers participating in this race did not finish! He was able to complete his 2 races and collect his first F.I.S points to start the 2024 season with a better start number than 137 which he had at the start of this race.
Philip skied on Atomic Redster 193cm 30 m+ radius 2023/2024 XVAR 16 And Head Raptor 120 Boots!

So this is admittedly a nitpick, but FIS regulations allow 188 cm GS skis at the FIS level. The 193 cm requirement only comes into play for Continental Cup (NorAm), Junior Championships, and above. They used to allow 188s for men all the way up to the World Cup level, but they eliminated that option at the same time as they reduced the minimum radius from 35 -> 30 meters.
Great job to Philip getting down and getting points! Rock-hard FIS courses like that are a whole different universe.

The information you are providing is excellent and more precise than the broader point I gave! You are right to say that if Philip wanted to race on his first year with 188 cm GS and 157 cm SL he could. I saw other first year athletes racing on 188cm and 157 cm! Because he has the choice at his age 16, Philip tested a lot of skis last year of different sizes and brands and he chose GS 193cm and SL 165cm !!! Actually Philip was already skiing U16 in SG with 193cm GS and loved them and later during the season he tested the 188 cm so he told me, Please I want another same ski! Luckily 193cm is the rule for NorAm(Continental) and it is playing to his advantage even though he is not their yet! Philip loves longer skis!

@@georgeskassir6117 Yup, absolutely. He avoids another adjustment if he moves up to NorAm or is selected to Junior Worlds.
