WHY I PULLED OUT & CUT MY SISTERLOCKS!

- I had Sisterlocks for over 12 years, my hair was very long but looked thin. I decided to get my locs layered for the illusion of thickness). BIG BIG…Did I say BIG mistake! I was butchered and hated what this “professional” did to my locs. Fast Forward - COVID hit, so I decided to pull them out….Yessssss I said it…pull them out after over 12 years, one at a diggiidy dang time 😳. After pulling out 50% I cut the length to make it easier to take down.
When I finally finished, I became a loose natural, I tried a few natural styles but really missed my locs.
I’ve decide to start my second set with medium 2 strand twist. Follow my new lock journey…
Be kind …. Be helpful…. No negative vibes…. Keep it positive or…. KEEP it moving!
This is why I learned how to tighten my own loc's as well!
Thanks for sharing. My heart goes out to you. I have similar struggles with my crown. Hang in there.
Thank you so much! The struggle is real. I wish I had the knowledge all those years ago that I have now. I wish you all the best in your journey. Please share any tips & tricks. Each one teach one 😉
I’m sorry you lost your our locs. I too had sisterlocs for 8 years and just cut them off this past summer. It was like experiencing the death of a love one. I too had thinning edges and crown. I cried for an entire week after losing them. I have been so depressed because of it but after seeing your video I’m encouraged to continue to let my hair grow back healthy . It’s in a TWA now and I will rock wigs until it gets some length. I do Plan on getting microlocs sometime the first of the year but maybe I’ll rock my hair natural for a while in an Afro. I did keep them maybe I’ll get them reattached.
I love you for posting this video. It encourages us who have thinning hair to rock what gods has given us. Good luck to you …blessings
Thank you so much for your comment, I actually have tears reading your comment, because I do know what you went through. Some people say its only hair and we know this but its still emotional. I had these long beautiful loc's but I was so tired of hiding the damage and trying to camouflage the bald areas. I spent so much money trying to reverse the damage but in in the end I decided to start again. Good luck with your decision & just know you are beautiful!
I wish sisterlocks consultants wouldn't make such teeny locs. I also wish they would tell their clients to grease their scalps and deep condition their locs.
No one's Microlocks can survive after 2 years without those treatments
@@theninjanaturalista1887 I agree. I am so disenchanted by the entire process now. I had no support during the beginning of the pandemic last year. I love locs but it will be a while before I get them again
@@desireehartman9385 I’m sorry to hear that, there are so many people like myself who have been through it. If you ever need support to start again we as they loc community are here to help. I would hate for anyone to go through what I did. 🤗
@@naturalu-fromsisterlocksto775 thanks sis that means a lot.
I think that's the risk with tiny locs. They eventually get too heavy for the base. And the traction alopecia from trying to maintain the grid. I see a lot of women starting to combine them to stop just these issues. Best of luck with the new locs.
Thanks so much. We do so much damage to our scalp that after decades of relaxers, tight braids the root is so weak this is the result for so many of us. I wish I had the knowledge then that I now have. 😊
Does it work out better in the long run if the 'sisterlocks' are done a bit thicker to begin with instead of being so tiny?
I am here because I am pretty much done with sisterlocks and want to combine them. I can’t afford to pay $175 a month for retightens and my retightening are take 8 hours. I’m over it.
8 hours!! You need a new consultant.
She was taking her time on purpose. Get that lady out of your hair.
Thank you for sharing your story! You seem like you have a great spirit. Blessings on the rest of your journey 🌸
Oh thank you so much I’m trying lol and trying to be positive and patient .
Thanks much for sharing, wishing you blessings for your new journey.😌
Thank you so much 😊
I love your voice it's soo relaxing to listen to! I have a whole hairless section in the nape of my neck from years of folliculitis and chemical relaxers, the section is smooth because the hair follicles are dead and won't grow back but I'm thankful it's in the back and can be covered. Right now i'm on month 2 of smaller coil starter locs and I've been tempted to share my journey as well cuz there are other women who have similar struggles like us and it's nice to share experiences with one another for information and growth. Thank you for sharing this with us!
Lol and here I am think ugggg my voice. Thanks so much! Please share your experience it really does help others.
Im sorry this happened to your locs. Wishing you the best on your new journey 🌷
Thanks so much ❤️
Thanks for sharing I resonated with your journey I have sisterlocs as well and have considered starting over for similar reasons, good luck as you continue on your journey
Thanks so much, it was such a difficult decision at my longest my SL were almost waist length…sigh! but I’m hopeful that the thin areas will fill in and I will feel comfortable. Best of luck with your decision 🤗
Good luck on your journey! I had traditional locks for 20 years and grew them down to my butt three times. But what I realized after I cut them; the weight of long hair it’s just not worth it whether you have traditional locks or sister locks or anything that pulls on the scalp. I’m just keeping my hair freeform natural And I wear wigs I take on and off daily LOL for different occasions. I have a sensitive scalp in my hair cannot do braids, color, or locks. I am sure whatever you choose is going to look amazing and be the best choice for you💜💜💜
Thanks Sis, your words are very encouraging. Blessings 💗
So EASY to listen to!
ahhh thanks, and I'm like I don't like how I sound but I still keep on talking! lol
Wow.... Your Locs was so nice at 1st. So sorry this happen to you.
That is why I am afraid to trim my Locs.
Thanks so much!😊 I had issues before my first set so I’m hoping by me managing my own locs it will help In reducing the tension and over tightening.
@@naturalu-fromsisterlocksto775 You are very welcome.
Yes we Always Learn more from mistakes. 💛
Be Blessed.
Thank you so much for sharing your journey. I had traditional locs many years ago, my hair was long also, but length was never my goal (although that comes anyway) healthy hair was, however, in the end, I cut them off because my stylist was twisting them too tight and it thinned out. For a few years after, I two strand twisted it and it was great. As I got older, I tired of doing my own hair and decided to return to the salon. Sadly, due to the change it started to thin out. Sigh!!! Okay so I thought let me try sisterlocs because they seemed lighter and more manageable. After careful consideration, I'm going to retry traditional locs because I do not have the fullness anymore. Traditional locs are a bit fuller because it incorporates more hair and I can add hair as needed when/if it thins out. I am not sure if you can add hair with sisterlocs. We all know that our crown, no matter how we decide to wear it is important. Stories like these keep us all focused and educated on making the best decisions with our hair Blessings to every Queen, you are already beautiful 😍.
I totally agree, I’m hoping by putting less stress on my scalp and being gentle I will see growth in my thin areas. Good luck as well!☺️
I would love to follow your journey, I like the size of my starter locs I’m 🙏🏾 for great results. Please keep me updated 😊
You can add hair to sisterlocks. There are sisterlock extensions now.
This was so difficult to watch. I wanted to cry for you. It made me afraid as well. I pray the best on your new journey. 🙏🏿🌹
Is it very common for sisterlocks to become too heavy as it grows? Is traction alopecia common with sisterlocks?
Thank you so much, it was a difficult decision but I felt so insecure with the thinning hair and when I got the cut to have more volume it was a bigger disaster. I was told by a few dermatologist that it was traction alopecia. I'm hoping my new journey will be a blessing. ;-)
Does anyone plan on selling their cut sister locks or micro lock hair? I’m trying to find donor hair for a friend.
HERE WATCHING...
I recommend you look for fast hair growth fortified shampoo to double hair growth.
Thank you! Will this help with the thin areas? My hair grows very fast but the crown and edges are slow to grow.
You needed to grease your scalp. That's the solution to thinning loc bases.
I wish it was that simple Sigh… but a severe chemical burn destroyed the surface. I uses all naturals oils on the regular I’m hoping my hair returns to a place where i feel comfortable. What do you use ?
@@naturalu-fromsisterlocksto775 use baking soda and water to exfoliate the dead hair follicles. Rinse out with apple cider vinegar water, then plain water. Put coconut oil and vitamin e on your scalp to rejuvenate dormant hair follicles 💖.
Once per week.
@@naturalu-fromsisterlocksto775 I have the same issue, rosemary oil and virgin hair fertilizer
Pop up lol
I have ALOT of similarities with u an your hair. I can not put colour anymore, my scalp would burn for months!.. Im still trying to embrace the silver 😔
Jus glad it's healthy now.
Thanks for sharing, I’m hoping things change for both of us. ❤️
@@naturalu-fromsisterlocksto775 Me too. Thank u
