I just gotta say J Dilla and Slum Village are the grandfathers of lofi. They had this sound going for years, but Nujabes undoubtedly launched it into widespread popularity beyond specific hip hop circles.
@@LeReal Hip Hop is more then just a genre of music like Nu-Jazz and Lo-Fi. Hip Hop is a culture Clothes can be hip hop, music can be hip hop, a poem can be Hip Hop. Its like going to the Hospital with a broken arm and asking for your body to be checked out. Yea its all your body but being specific narrows it down to what your looking for.
Lo-fi hip hop has existed for quite a while like late 80s early 90s but it’s cool that champloo shined some light on it and gave it some much needed recognition. The mixture of high action anime and lofi was truly genius!
Lofi didn’t really exist, there was triphop, jazz rap, sample hip hop, which were inspirations for Nujabes’ style, which has now become Lofi. These original styles were done by producing masters J Dilla, Madlib, Guru, etc, J Dilla being one of his biggest inspirations. It was Nujabes that took these styles, inspired by his old records and hip hop, creating the raw style of lofi. The reason Lofi is so reminiscent of the sounds of hiphop in the 80s & 90s is because Nujabes blended those elements, he took the best from all, and with his own flavor and touch, created what we know today as Lofi/Lofi Hip Hop.
@@riosnyder6122No, they're right. Nujabes and Dilla were the same age and that scene of hip hop was already know in Japan. People Shing02 and Verbal exist with similar styling. Lo-fi hip hop itself is just low fidelity, meaning it sounds more aged, which gives it that nostalgic feel. That aside, laid back vibes of Nujabes sounds are probably influenced from other artists like, A Tribe Called Quest, Massive Attack, Slum Village, The Fugees, Mobb Deep, etc.
I remember stumbling upon Samurai Champloo many years ago, late at night, while I was channel surfing and said..."What is this Godly thing?" So glad I found it, and its music. This was part of my introduction to Lofi hip hop and I never stopped enjoying it. I was 13 I think when I first heard this stuff, and now I'm 33 and still love it.
When that first beat dropped, I'm literally covered in goosebumps. There's something so bittersweet nostalgic about this series. It's a colletive feeling of a bright future from the past. Samurai and Steven Universe are my faves.
This soundtrack literally changed my outlook on music, I felt so hurt when I heard Nujabes died...Can't imagine the amazing tracks he would of come out with if he was still with us. Tsutchie, Fat Jon, Force of Nature, J Dilla and Nujabes are the forefathers of Lofi hip hop. It's so nice too see that this music style touches so many people around the world today.
I don't know what it is about this soundtrack or even this video but Champloo's music has always been...calming? I remember having my first panic attack after accidentally going off my lexapro a few months ago and in the midst of trying to get through the side-effects, I kept this video on loop as I tried to sleep. Now again, I had accidentally overdid OTC painkillers and felt really sick as a result...once more, returning to this video, which seemed to make my whole ordeal of suffering feel a lot less terrible.
One of the first anime I really got into, was Bleach (recommended by a friend). After seeing that and thinking it was the greatest anime of all time, I started searching for other stuff. I don't remember exactly how, but I stumbled upon Samurai Champloo, all by myself. Maybe I was looking for Rurouni Kenshin (Samurai X) and scrolling down the list I came across this. I decided to try it out (I think it's only around 24 episodes). Man, did I wish there were more episodes. It's a solid 9/10 for me & I'm definitely gonna rewatch it sometime.
I loved Samurai Champloo, it had the right amount of modern beats in the anime. It wasn't overwhelming or did not pull from the immersion. Anime was great. It had a story and told it and that was it.
Been bobbing my head to Samurai Champloo since I was a kid... I learned so much about life and moving with it's currents while letting music guide the spirit, hopefully someone gets the same love and satisfaction these days...
it looks strange to say... But i can say, Nujabes was the transcendent, he always will be the father of lo-fi hip-hop. Force of Nature, Uyama Hiroto, Fat Jon, Shing02 and many others sacred monsters are part of his iconic legacy. I just want to say, thank you all.
No he is not. Tribe called quest & Digable Planets and J Dilla are the fathers of Lofi Hip Hop. Asian people need to study an art form before copying it.

I dont really think its hip hop in the same sense that blues music isnt jazz
I remember stumbling upon Samurai Champloo many years ago, late at night, while I was channel surfing and said..."What is this Godly thing?"
So glad I found it, and its music. I never forgot it and when I could get it for my collection, I did. It is one of the cornerstones of my Anime collection and the music is in my top rotation. Thank you Nujabes (RIP), Fat Jon, Force of Nature, and all the wonderful artists that brought the musical pulse of this anime to life.

This is great!
Heyy thank love your channel btw!
@Dj CUTMAN Thanks! right back at ya
I am subscribed to you, it's good to see you here!
Damn this fills me with so much nostalgia. I wish I could go back to the day I first found out about samurai champloo. I was so young and optimistic about every damn thing...
Fun fact: Nujabes and J Dilla share the same birthday. I consider them both to be the holy grail of this genre.
They are Gods
This was part of my introduction to Lofi hip hop and I never stopped enjoying it. I was 13 I think when I first heard this stuff, and now I'm 33 and still love it.
When that first beat dropped, I'm literally covered in goosebumps.
There's something so bittersweet nostalgic about this series. It's a colletive feeling of a bright future from the past. Samurai and Steven Universe are my faves.
That was such a chill vibing premiere. looking to the next stream/premiere!
Ahh late night adult swim vibes.. Easier times...
This soundtrack literally changed my outlook on music, I felt so hurt when I heard Nujabes died...Can't imagine the amazing tracks he would of come out with if he was still with us. Tsuchie's track Sincerely was my go to on the album, made me feel something a little different every time I listened to it.
one of the most underrated anime’s, a forever staple in my books
Underrated? It played on Adult Swim and is one of the most mainstream anime of the 2000's...
@@EJ-bq1nu Idk. I don't really watch anime (I've only ever watched FMA and Samurai Champloo all the way through), but all the weebs I knew had never heard of this show before. I've personally never met anyone else irl who's watched it.
You're a moron. How is SAMURAI CHAMPLOO one of the most "underrated" anime, when it's one of the most critically acclaimed of all time?! Think before you spew nonsensical statements.
Listening to these songs, slowly driving a pickup in small forest roads in automn in the rain. Memories for life to relax to.
I remember when I watched Samurai Champloo back in 2013-ish (before the rise of lofi in 2016) how stylistically unique the entire show was, and how the music really did a lot of work immersing you into that world of hip hop and samurai.
Damn this takes me back. I had just graduated HS, so I definitely had this goin during study sessions. RIP Nujabes.
It's actually better than lo fi.

This sound track and a lot of Nujabes other music got me through the most depressing part of my late teen years when I felt completely alone. Now they are some of my favorite late night programming tracks
If Persona 6 is ever made, I want this to be the sound of the game
You’re an absolute genius, and I totally agree
it would be a nice change.
We witnessed the birth of a whole genre through a show
This anime used to air on adult swim all those years back. seeing it now on youtube like this fills me with vague memories of waking up past midnight with Shiki no Uta playing on my old CRT TV. Good stuff.
*reads title
*hears music, vibes along
I see no reason to disagree here.
I just started watching Samurai Champloo about a week ago or so, nearly finished it now but I don't want it to come to an end, I love it. Such a wonderful series.
wait dude. im quite immersed into the lofi scene and anime but like.... these are NOT remixes??? ive been listening to lofi before it even got its name and i gotta say, this really suprised me. 2005? WTF?!?!?!? thats insanely early and i definitely agree with your title. samurai champloo IS the original lofi without a doubt. magical what these people were thinking when creating this
NUJABES, is the man that birthed this medicine to our soulless bored empty ears, he deserved so much more respect and so much more fame, his name needs to be out there more often than it is, R.I.P. Jun Seba 1974-2010.
Tsutchie, Fat Jon, Force of Nature, J Dilla and Nujabes are the forefathers of Lofi hip hop.
It's so nice too see that this music style touches so many people around the world today.
Even today, the influence of the RZA can be felt all around the world.
All SC fans are kind and polite too. Look at every comment
This is actually Force of Nature. RIP Nujabes
Watching all the flowers around me bloom, here in Argentina, and listening to nujabes make me wonder how's the scent of a sunflower.
Let's all agree these 4 individuals were the Founding Fathers of Lofi HipHop. Applause for Force of Nature, Tsutchie, Fat Jon and Nujabes (RIP).
Can't forget J Dilla tho
@@ianhorvath5791 yeah samurai champloo fans always forget or dont know about dilla for some reason. him and nujabes are the kings of jazzhop.

Champloo has, by far, my favorite soundtrack in anime. So many amazing contributors.
Thank you by Tsuchie is my favorite track in the series. It reminds me of my Older Brother everytime I listen to it. Rest Easy Big Bro ❤
*IS NO ONE GONNA TALK ABOUT HIS AMAZING LIGHT SHOW THROUGHOUT THIS VIDEO?! OH OK!* 😤
I think I saw one guy talk about it, the comment got decent traction, but other than that I don't think anyone really talked about it.

Asian people need to study an art form before copying it.

the spin up at the beginning is extremely cozy
Use to watch this anime when I had power cut and it was raining outside and I was tucked under my covers no one bothering me just me chillin in the dark while was rainy outside enjoying this anime :)
I remember when the lofi boom first started. met some good dudes around that time. a lot of people had nujabes as their inspiration, Even i was inspired by him. Never could go a second without hearing nujabes name being said out loud in that community at the time.
The memories that come flooding back onto your mind, when you hear a piece of music for the first time in years. Thankyou for this.

Whenever i listen to lofi for some reason i think of being a kid watching adult swim on saturday nights and the in between bumps good times
the sad thing is people will never give credit where credit is due. samurai champloo is the reason lofi exist today
I disagree, a lot of people give credit to samurai champloo, and especially to Nujabes.
I would argue it was J Dilla who started it and Nujabes who helped perfect it.
