Panipat men are becoming Hanuman for 41 days - No salt, no women, only tapasya

Every Dussehra, the Hanuman Swaroop phenomenon sweeps across Panipat, turning ordinary men into symbols of devotion and defiance. Most are from Panipat’s Punjabi community, with the tradition starting as a post-Partition expression of identity. But though the community is no longer ‘displaced’, over the last few years, the number of men and boys signing up has risen. The ranks of the Hanuman Sena have swollen to hundreds, if not more. It’s become a rite of passage. ThePrint spoke exclusively to these men to understand the significance of this tradition and its origins.

You should have also shown that how these people roam in the evening in groups of 10-20 with sticks and loud DJs and block the roads. It’s not that they block only one road at a time. All around the city there are many groups which walk on different roads. Already traffic situation is bad in Panipat, but when they come out whole city comes to standstill. Even national highways are not spared. And no one can ask them to move aside for obvious reasons.
These people have replaced hanuman by these dogmas. Would lord Hanuman ever cause inconvenience to anyone? They should reflect on it. It will be much better way to connect with him instead of whatever they are doing in his name.
I am disappointed that even independent journalism like Print could not highlight the issues created by them. It’s good at-least in your article tried to highlight their misogyny when a ‘hanuman’ was scolded just for talking to her 3 year old girl.
