  • Tower Defense games used to be popular but have fallen off since then, mainly from a lack of innovation in the genre and many of the games feeling like they're the same. Infininode seems similar to Ghost Hacker 2, except the concept is that the levels usually go on for a long time, although there are defined towers with their abilities, you get to choose the upgrades they get plugged into, and in general, there is a lot of countering with towers and enemies. Pretty nice to sink some time into

If you're interested, I recall "3D Dot Game Heroes" having a strangely in-depth Tower Defense minigame. Granted, it's a PS3 exclusive if I remember correctly and you have to play through most of the game to unlock every challenge map but you can easily spend hours playing just that minigame alone.
The tower variety isn't the greatest but they each have their defining roles. Your own character can attack as well, keeping them still gains experience and when they level up, they do more damage. Then there's stuff like gaining a percentage increase to your money at the end of each round, rare currency you can spend to either unlock more types of towers for that attempt or increasing the money percentage gain, etc.
And that's just the regular maps. The bonus maps offer a variety of unique situations and restrictions. Like most remove the ability for your character to attack, making you rely more on just the towers.
For instance, there's one where you could only place towers on preset pedestals. As well as being able to sell towers for a higher price than you bought/leveled them for. But in doing so, that pedestal the tower was on would be removed. So you need to balance placing/upgrading towers, selling them for more money, and ever decreasing positions to even put towers down.
Then there was another one where the towers you'd place would have health that would decrease over time, as well as unique enemy variants that can attack them. You can recover their health by either upgrading them or utilizing recovery towers. But as more rounds pass, the amount of damage they start taking over time increases as well.
    And of course there's more.
For any tower defense fan, I actually would recommend checking it out. Though again, you pretty much do have to play the entirely of was is essentially a "Legend of Zelda" clone to unlock all the options for it.

So I know you don’t play PvZ as much as you used to and all the challenges that I attempted and failed lol. But after every level you receive a plant wether if it is lily pad or wall nut but what if you had a wheel filled with every single plant and which ever one the wheel landed on you can use (you start with peashooter coffee bean, lily pad, and puff shroom. (These are needed or else this challenge may be impossible). All upgrade plants are off the wheel also imitator. You will need to beat the game to have all plants which you did. (Sorry if you get marigold/ umbrella leaf as your first) if you attempt this. And if you don’t have split pea by the time miner zombie comes you can add it too plants you received from the wheel. All mini games have and exception that you can use anything they give you. Your also one of the reason I started to play plants vs zombies

Quite intriguing mechanics present with the game's here, particularly with Two Timin Towers! I avidly enjoy roguelites and TDs alike, so a game bringing those two genres together is a wonderous prospect.
I recently revisited a tower defense game I first discovered many years ago but never finished back then, that being Beware Planet Earth. It first released in 2012, but later came out on Steam in 2014. There's a free demo of the game there as well. Its premise is that of defeating Martians with various assortments of machines before the they can abduct the player's cows.
After finally completing the game's story mode, I can most certainly arbitrate that Beware Planet Earth possesses some mechanics seemingly unprecedented in many other TDs. Ultimately, they render the game with more micro-management overall. Perhaps the best of these is the active lives system, where the cows have to be brought back to the spawn point in order to be fully abducted. Moreover, if a Martian dies with a cow, the latter is merely dropped, to which another Martian may pick it up. To enhance this idea, the game has a cowbell tool that the player can hold to encourage cows to hurry back to the pasture faster. BPE also has the Zapper, a ray gun used to attack Martians, disable some of their abilities (to which there are a well-defined amount), or even overcharge towers into attacking faster for short periods. However, the former-most cannot be done continuously, as the Zapper will overheat and eventually break down for some time. The Zapper is also used against some seasonal threats, such as mushrooms that will proliferate and temporarily consume tiles or freezing that will render towers unable to perform.
These two tools, in conjunction with currency collection and tower placement, make stages a balancing act of what to focus on at any given moment. Typically, you must keep track of numerous things at once -- rushing that cow back to safety, shooting down an alien's invincibility shield, placing down a new tower here or there, dealing with enemies impacting your machines, trying to not lose any currency -- all of it results in constantly swapping out tools in order to maintain control of the scene. If this isn't done successfully, then things can get out of hand quite easily. Truly, I enjoy the game's design so much that I am plan to invest the time to make a proper video review on it soon.
BPE admittedly isn't perfect though. Usually, a big turn-off for many of the game's reviewers is how easy the game seems during the first season, spring. Those stages are ultimately a breeze, even in veteran mode, but don't let that fool you for long -- the game heats up quite quickly partway through Summer, and only becomes more challenging in later seasons. It's also quite clear that the game was inspired by PvZ and Bloons, featuring similar tower selection and currency (though no form of passive income like sun falling) to the former and maps akin to the latter. But by no means it is terribly unoriginal; what it presents and more importantly does with those mechanics cause the game to be a unique experience.

While it's by no means underrated, honorable mention to the Gemcraft series for being one of the most solid entries/series in the genre and still going to this day
As a rundown for those that haven't heard of it:
    - Gems make up your primary form of actually dishing out damage, and they can be slotted into a handful of different structures (these are introduced throughout the series) to achieve this; towers are the old reliable damage dealers, traps sacrifice raw damage for boosted specials (tied to the gem's color(s)), amplifiers don't attack but add onto the stats of surrounding gems, lanterns are slow and weak but have an AoE effect that instantly hits their entire range
    - Your mana, the main form of money in the series, is also your life "count" for banishing monsters that punch through, note however that you only send it back to the start of the path and its banishment cost escalates further each time
    - There's an "RPG" meta-game aspect to the series where each map has a high score tied to it and your level (and thus, skill points available to spend for advantages in future maps) is tied to the total of these scores, which highly encourages replaying levels to try and be more aggressive, either by sending waves early, enraging waves to make them stronger but more valuable for score, or some combination of these methods

I first time know TD games genre from Warcraft III custom maps back in 2014, then I try to find out more 5 years later after watch your Kingdom Rush video challenge, then Bloons TD Evolution. TD Games actually are a awesome genre, but a very few people are can find and make a new innovation.
Some few TD Games genre innovations are reloading weapon system in Alien Shooter TD. That mechanic require you to watch your tower's (or soldier's) ammo or Your tower can't attack anymore. You must manage your money to buy a new ammo to reload ammo and buy new towers too. And it also has a powerup for tight situation (If you didn't like that mechanic just ignore it instead).

Critcal Strike Tower Defence is a hidden gem in my opinion. It is mostly overlooked because it is a roblox game, but it has quite a few unique mechanics and towers to make it stand out. Many early towers are simple, such as "guy with burst gun" but eventually you get unique towers such as vindicator, which is a melee tower who builds up charge for its abiliy, which automatically activates and turns it into a ranged tower who can extend this ability by killing more enemies, kinda like NoLegs from EBF. Or oblitirator, a tower with a weak primary attack, but a monstrous secondary lazer blast which makss quick work of groups of strong enemies, however it has the tradeoff of leeching your money overtime after level 4, but in turn the money leeching effect powers up certain perks and active abilities. The aformentioned perk system adds quite a bit of customisation. Do you prefer to have short range towers with higher firerate? Or perhaps buff melee towers in exchange for hp bar going down over time, with the only way to refill it being damage?
I personally think that CTD is a good tower defence, with a good mix of simplicity and cool mechanics.

I'm talking about Gemcraft, you can found some of them on steam, I think the first ones disapear with flash, the concept is simple you cn create gem with various effect and combine them, either to level them or to create mixed gem. • @ParamecioLord
    @ParamecioLord Рік тому

A personal favorite of mine is one called "Defender's Quest". It has the twist that all your towers upgrade in a RPG experience style and can be attacked back by enemies, as well as featuring probably the best tower control system I've seen in a TD, with multiple smart targeting options and game speed customization. There's barely any RNG and the progression flow through the campaign in the basic game and new game + (70 or so levels plus some extra challenges) is quite nice, you never need to grind experience to advance unlike many other RPGs, and the superb control system allows you to execute strategies with pinpoint accuracy, or extremely quickly in case you're confident in your defense to prevent the game from becoming a core. It isn't perfect, the art direction and story could have been more ambitious, the item system is not very interesting (all upgrades basically consist in increasing +x armor or attack until you get to the new game +, essentially hard mode, where some items get new effects) and it has some optimization issues in levels with huge amounts of enemies, but I still think it's a very neat TD with solid gameplay execution. The developer of the game is working on another TD using the same formula, but with improved everything by the looks of it.

Personally, I also think why TD games are unpopular is bc the big bois of Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, etc. dont really care about putting them in Playstations, Switches, Xboxes, etc.
However, I really like how Touhou Monster TD has all of those unique mechanics that can be used into those game stations respectively.
    Like imagine this:
A TD game where you're main character is hero based on 5+ classes of ur choosing(who you mainly control) and then many of the mechanics from Touhou Monster TD!
That opens up a Lot of cool, fun, even frustrating challenge runs that everyone can try to attempt.
Other than that, cool video to look back on the TD games.

a surprisingly fun td game is all star tower defense on roblox
it does have issues with having to do the same level 6x to progress to the next one, but its also a game that gives you an insane amount of normal currency (gems) - so you can get anyone from normal banners
and a good chunk of special currency (stardust) - so you can get the few 5*'s you have to evolve to a 7*
its also funny to summon madoka, goku, and cooler to fight enemies

The thing about most TD games is that they lack the charm, world-building, challenge and cleverness of Kingdom Rush. Remember when we all got a heart attack the first time the Executioner appeared in Buccaneer's Den? Remember how nobody expected the bastion in Galadrian's Wall to be burnt down into a connecting path? Remember how it felt to see hundreds of skeletons and demons spawning near the exit in the Dark Tower? We also all love the challenge provided by iconic enemies like Swamp Things, Bluegales, Blood Ogres etc. Pretty much no other TD game has this level of charm to it.
That being said, I'd still check out these games.
One more game I'd like to add is Giants and Dwarves TD. It's an old flash game which is probably dead, but it has a very creative style and there are mini-bosses called Giants appearing as regular enemies. Each giant brings something new to the table and has a weak spot you can send soldiers to attack on. Enemies are also brutal and sometimes have synergy.

now i'm pretty sure this one might not be considered, Tower defense, but a game that's a pretty damn solid, Tower defense, like game, is Missile command Recharged, on mobile and tablets. (idk if it's on PC or consoles tho...) It's essentially the OG Missile Command, but instead of being a wave based survival defense, its instead, endless survival defense. If y'all have never even heard of missile command, don't feel bad, the og game is nearly like 3 or 4 decades old... In missile command, your tasked with defending cities from incoming waves of nuclear missiles, smart bombs, and nuclear bombers by intercepting and destroying them before they touch down and destroy your cities with your own missiles, fairly simple. In Missile Command recharged, it's the same concept, but as mentioned before, instead of being wave based survival, it's now endless survival. On top of a fresh coat of paint with an awesome neon based art style, theres also tons of new powerups and the ability to upgrade your defenses a little. It's a really simple and easy to grasp game that's really fun and addicting because it has that, "one more quick game!, style of gameplay. Now like i said, this probably can't be considered, Tower Defense, but even if it isn't, i would still highly recommend that anyone who likes the tower defense Genre of games check it out!
(edit) Okay, so i did some research and found out a few things. Firstly, it IS available on PC and Consoles! It's available on Xbox, Ps4 and 5, Switch, Steam, and Epic Games Store. However, another thing i found out, be warned if your checking this out on console or even PC. This game can be pretty challenging and even frustrating to play with analog controls. The one I talked about and recommended was the mobile and tablet version that uses touch controls. And a quick side note, for you switch players, touch controls can be used in handheld mode. And lastly, apparently there are two versions! There's the older, 2020 version, which is the one available for mobile and tablet, and then there's the newer version that's on everything else. Both share the same name, however the difference is that the newer version has alot more bells and whistles with things like updated graphics, online leaderboards, a mission mode, and more.

    • @Shyguymask
      @Shyguymask  Рік тому

The best part about the gameplay is managing mana whether to make more space for towers or to seize buildings to change the level around. Sadly as a whole it's pretty shallow because you have only 3 base towers, can only place each of them on matching tiles and have to wait for them to level up before upgrading them. In the Ultimate edition they nerfed the level 5 towers so much that the one "strategy" throughout the whole game is spamming level 2-3 towers everywhere on the map. But even that is frustrating because the game has an overabundance of RNG. Random crits, random freezes and most relevantly random drops when defeating enemies. I like the game but it doesn't offer much as a strategy game, if anything it's limited and with no real depth.
