i've always said dark tranquillity is one of the most underrated bands. the gallery was my introduction to melodic death metal and is still among my favorite albums of all-time. coincidentally my friend that introduced me to dark tranquillity is the same guy who introduced me to amorphis.

My favourite band in high school back then in late 90's and still are today, watched them live a few times, with Tomi's growls the concert ground felt like a space rocket just got launched, the ground was shaking, it was the most powerful show and unforgettable feeling. They evolved throughout the years but always kept the sound we fell in love with. The Legend Amorphis, and Tomi does have the best growls and beautiful clean vocals. I love all their album from start till now, so worth buying. Please more Amorphis, thank you for reacting to this amazing band.

I really liked this one. It's not as intense than their other songs, which is fine, but as always his vocals are awesome! I think one of the most underrated bands is the German melodic death metal band "Parasite, Inc." They have a huge discography with many fine songs but they don't get a lot of attention.

Gods, so many songs I love by them. I mean most of their songs. A few highlights for me but no means exhaustive: Sampo, Silver Bride, Mermaid, Hopeless Days (think you'll like that), NIghtbirds Song (you may really like that), Bad Blood, Tree of Ages, Daughter of Hate, Grain of Sand, When the Gods Came....hell, just all of them since Eclipse. They have some crazy good bonus songs, like Winters Sleep, The Wind, Honeyflow, etc. that I highly recommend as well. Honeflow blew my mind when I first heard it. Good luck and enjoy whicher path you tread (i.e. song you listen to). :)

Just came across your channel the other day and have been enjoying your reactions to Amorphis! I have been listening to them since 1994 and they are pretty much my favorite band. I won’t say I am their ‘biggest’ fan because I’m sure there are others that would put me to shame but to say I am a huge fan is an understatement. Since I have listened to them they have had essentially 4 “lead” singers (though in the early days Tomi K. did the growls and they had someone else for the clean vocals when the song called for it. I like Tomi K’s growls, but I think they missed an opportunity after getting Pasi Koskinen in for Elegy. He sang only the clean parts on this album. The next album was Tuonela and by this time Tomi K. decided he was done doing vocals and handed everything over to Pasi. Unfortunately they almost entirely removed growls from this album except for the song Greed and a couple of words in Divinity. Greed is freaking epic and showed Pasi can growl! The next couple albums were all clean vocals and were the weakest of their entire career in my opinion. After Far from the Sun, I was worried that they were done. They went on Hiatus for a while and then out of nowhere they were back with a new album (Eclipse) and with Tomi Joutsen doing all vocals. I had never heard of him before then and imagine my surprise (and ultimate happiness) when he not only sounded great with his clean vocals but as soon as he started growling I had freaking goosebumps and was giddy that Amorphis was back with a vengeance! Since then Tomi J. has become my favorite Amorphis singer. His cleans get better with each album but it’s his growls that I can’t get enough of! Too many growlers sound forced to me but Tomi’s growls just sounds so natural. It’s hard to describe but if you know, you know. One of my favorites is Majestic Beast from Skyforger album. There is also a live version from Forging the Land of Thousand Lakes that is phenomenal. I don’t know if you have done that one yet but if you haven’t, that’s a must! I could go on and on about Amorphis!! 😎
As for an ‘underrated’ band I would love to see get more attention I would say Borknagar. They are certainly known in some metal circles but I would love to see them get more attention from outside the circles. They are awesome. They just put out a new album and it’s phenomenal! I think they are down to two singers at this time but they’ve had like 4 at a time before. Check out the song Winter Thrice. In that they brought back a former singer for this one song and it’s great. They have been killing it for a long time and I can’t wait to hear more from them in the future.
    Keep up the good work!

Winter Thrice is from the 2016 album with the same name. Didn’t mean to make it sound like this was from the new album. 😬

Amorphis is one of my Top3 bands since ages. I found them back in the 90th (it came out 1994 sh*t i'm getting old :D ) when the Tales of a thousand lakes came out. Never heard something like that before. Such brutal music and at the same time so beautiful melodies. Saw them multiple times and Tommy is such an amazing singer live, switching from his growls into the cleans forth and back in seconds. I would suggest Black winter day (it's from the 90th and with the old singer) or Skyforger (it's my favourit song from them)

tales from the thousand lakes is a fucking classic! it also has one of the best album covers of all-time. magic and mayhem is a genre shifting masterpiece; it's got some elements of electronica, death metal, and even the doors. and there might even be some sitar in it.

Cool fact about Tomi Joutsen, he was growling in death metal bands for years before joining Amorphis, and in the beginning he struggled with clean singing. None other than Marko Hietala coached him as well as produced his vocals for the albums Eclipse, Silent Waters, Skyforger and The Beginning of Times. If you listen to the song Silver Bride - which you should do, it's yet another layer of the magic that is Amorphis - you will hear Marko's backing vocals. Otherwise get this album - Queen of Time - on vinyl, I think it's their best so far. A few months ago they released a live version, like they played the whole album start to finish in the legendary venue Tavastia, and it's worth listening to, as well (Oppu and Tomi K do some cool backing vocals).
A band that should be talked about more? Definitely Stratovarius. I mean, only one of the most influential power metal bands in history, it feels wrong to have to explain who they are. Criminally underrated. And post-Tolkki Stratovarius kicks ass, I will die on this hill.
