The roblox outage of 2021 was such a fond memory because all of the internet just collapsed right there. Especially for the first day when many asked about their streaks or accounts. I remember playing during it too, everyone's avatars were acting up and it became insanely buggy.
I remember this being known as roblox players being grounded for Halloween. Twitter was on fire for real

0:13 that thing sucked. Roblox was down for 3 days and we couldn't do anything about it. I remember sitting and waiting for it to come back on
So essentially, here’s what happened, with some more precise figures.
Something around 1.4 million people joined the chipotle burrito maze, which crashed the website’s settings and therefore its ability to show games and allow users to play games (misconfiguration in core resources).
This problem was also due to the cloud service provider having issues with Roblox, creating the infamous 78 hour outage of 2021
Those 3 days was scary... all the games we played, the robux we spent. Im glad its still up and running.

To explain what the blog talked about (I understood this as soon as the blog, post came out) basically someone/some people turned on some weird setting for some services Roblox was using to run clients and load discovery pages. The settings likely did some weird stuff to Roblox and so since they had such a big active player count on the platform at once, it would probably lag to load the configurations and with them trying to fix the platform, they likely only made it worse only for Roblox to close their curtains for a few days.

5:48 you showed us a blog back on January saying that a core thing, that runs roblox, changed code for other games, and roblox wasn’t meant for it… so it crashed, until they reverted it.

What is funny is that exactly at that time, I went out with my family on a trip. When I got back, the issue was solved, but for the exact 3 days, I didn’t even know it was shut down for that time.
I remember it came back to life the night of Halloween. When I was done trick or treating I checked my phone and sure enough it was online and running. Best part is, we went to Chipotle afterwards and got "boorritos" to celebrate.

Also the "misconfiguration in a core reasearch" balh blah thing, means that something really important that managed the website was misconfigured or something involving outdation or a thing like that. Basically one of roblox's critical parts that was part of the servers bugged out and it took a while to fix it because it had to be entirely fixxed.

God, i remember this moment two years ago, it was horrifying. It happened somewhere near the end of October or midway through October. I literally got scared that my account would get deleted.
Pretty sure it was the day before or the day of Halloween, if my memory serves.

I have a really awesome story related to this event. So a few weeks before I saw a random kid say that there birthday was on Halloween and they were gonna have a roblox themed birthday party
I remember this outage thankfully I was busy doing other things when this happened so I wasn’t affected too much
I'm like 99% sure that it wasn't the burrito event from Chipotle. Roblox was updating their servers or something and there was an issue.

this roblox outage changed the way i played roblox. those three days made me lose my 289 day login streak in adopt me. have not opened adopt me since that day and only have been playing mm2 and murd vs sheriffs. have not seen the appeal and gave up since.

Misconfiguration in cores, it was a wrong code or value inside the core which started the servers to struggle to handle inside the core, as of hours of finding the problem they fixed it.
I remember this outage, On the first day of this outage I didnt play, the 2nd day of the outage, I went to play rblx and noticed it was down. Then i saw Kreek streaming and he entertained me for the 2 days of the outage. I can still remember one of the major things Kreek did in the stream, he went outside & touched grass, and very quickly after he heard a dog barking and went back in lol. 😂

The platform servers outage is meant that more than 200k players joined a game. If talking about Brookhaven, people join at random amount of time, but people joined Chipotle game got more than 200k at the SAME TIME, that caused roblox servers to crash down.

Remembered it like it was yesterday. At this point I was just coming home from a long day at school to just play one of my favorite games ever. Came back to that iconic blue screen that reads as followed,"We're making things more awesome. be back soon." I assumed that they were going to be doing a big update or something. But curiously, I was wondering why I wasn't able to play the game while it was updating. I just assumed that they closed the website for a little while so they could have some time to release it. But little did I know, the hours of chaos going on while I was at school. So I went to UA-cam and that's when the realization hit me. The website was having some major problems that you normally wouldn't see even on a Saturday. It was so bad that none of the games, your friends, your groups, your followers and so much more wouldn't even be able to load. At that point, the Roblox website was completely unplayable and Roblox had to temporarily pull the plug for three days until they could finally get everyone back online. Craziest 3 days of a life time.

i actually remembered this. i was ingame when it was going down and people weren't able to send things through the chat. then i got logged out and thought "it's probably going to be up tomorrow, whatever" but obviously that didn't happen until later :)) i also actually dreamed about it being back up too..

Same i was in a game with my sister then my sister told she got disconnected and couldnt log in, then 2 mins later same thing happened to me.
To make it easy to understand basically what caused the outage was the fact that Roblox’s server that transmit the signal to open the roblox player on your computer would automatically check if the servers were online except in this case they were but the check failed and this lead to an infinite loop of checks that kept slowing down Roblox’s servers to the point of crashing.
I experienced this, I was going crazy without robox for 3 days

I’m pretty sure a misconfiguration in a core resource service means (in this case for the discovery page or whatever) the main part of the thing that lets you join games and everything had a error and because roblox servers are old it’s gonna take longer but that’s what I think it means Idk tho

After investigating what happened, the Roblox staff wrote a report explaining that the problem was caused by a mistake in how some important parts of the site were set up. Because those parts were so important to how the site worked, it took a long time to figure out what was wrong and fix it.
Lucky this happened during new year because at least people were spending time with families I would’ve hated it if it happened during school days 😂

I was playing rise of nations while the outage began and since the game doesn't feature avatars, me and the other players were totally oblivious and for the first 2 hours, we were doing our normal business like trading, buying land and conquest. By the third hour, people began to experience problems and we were one of the last RON servers before the game crashed and all connections were lost.
