Hello and welcome to "The Unported Playlist"
So we decided to extend this playlist from 10 games to does it even matter what the count is anymore? lol it's a lot!
On this episode we are looking at Virtua Fighter 4: Final Tuned. Yes Virtua Fighter 4 has been ported to consoles but the final arcade revisions (balanced, extra areas and costumes, etc) was never ported off the NAOMI 2. It's the best version of an amazing fighting game and it's one you can ONLY play on arcade platforms.
Questions? Comments? Just leave them below and I will do my best to answer each and every one of them!

Even though I've played more Tekken in my life, VF4 Evolution was by far the most satisfying fighting game to learn and probably my favorite overall. Would love to see a Virtua Fighter on Steam one day so I can actually play online.
Yes VF needs way better online support for PC
Thank you for this video. I think I knew of this game once before, but I hadn't really ever looked into it. VF is my favorite (Fighting) game series and I would love a completely accurate port of this as I'm sure you would too. I've tried very hard to like the Tekken series and I truly don't think it can hold a candle to Virtua Fighter. I have a PS2 hooked up via HD Retrovision cables to a Sony CRT pretty much exclusively to Play VF4 Evolution....thinking THAT was the Ultimate version of VF4. Now I know it is THIS version that is truly the Ultimate version. Thanks again.
haha yeah Final Tuned is the ultimate version. Diff costumes, more stages, etc etc. It's the reason to buy a NAOMI 2...which means I need to upgrade my NAOMI to a 2 lol
After VF5R my 2nd favorite VF game!
Honestly they are all awesome. Only the original has gotten a bit “old”. Even 2 is still a ton of fun to play now and again. I just hope we get a 6 one day
I have this on my Naomi 2 and I love it. I prefer vf way more than tekken
Same. Tekken is fun but I've always preferred the speed of Virtua Fighter
I think the creator of Tekken does as well, and that's not even me being sarcastic.
No I read an interview where he said he wants Virtua Fighter to come back because he loves competing against Sega when it comes to developing games
@@VideoGameEsoterica Makes sense. Namco probably won't let him do new crazy things without a primary competitor.
Well let’s hope the recent release / remake of 5 sells well!
Final Tuned makes me wish Demul didn't run like a snail and/or would at least be updated for the first time in half a decade
You can get Demul to full speed but you need some beefy hardware in your PC to do it. I’ve gotten everything NAOMI 2 to run well. The trick is your first play will be grange as it has some sort of caching system I believe. After that it improves
1:10 WHAT!? that game was released in 2012 for both XBLA & PS3 which is "VF5 Final Showdown" however the one that came before was actully "VF5 R" is the one that could not make it to Home Consoles unfortunately
That begin said there's only 2 VF games that didn't received home ports which are *"Final Tuned(2004)"* & *"Virtua Fighter 5 R"(2008)*
I thought the Yakuza variant was beyond what was out in 2012?
@@VideoGameEsoterica no it became playable in yakuza since 2017 and that version is honestly barebone compared to the PS3/X360 which had a big customization mode, online & singleplayer content
So the one in Yakuza is actually a mini game version which isn't that good you only can play VS & Score Run
But the one in PS3/X360 was a complete game
👍
Yeah, I heard that and I was like "no!"
Plus there's the remake on PS4 also.
Haha I make these so far in advance sometimes things happen between them and when they premier. Always good things though!
It's too bad Sega never brought Virtua Fighter 4 to the GameCube. It would have handled the lighting better, it would have handled the effects better, and the button scheme would have made it one of the few playable fighters on that controller.
True. Now that you mention it why didn’t they bring it to GameCube?
@@VideoGameEsoterica It makes absolutely no sense given that the GameCube got the RPG spin-off, Virtua Quest.
VF4 on GameCube could've been done with like 1/10 of the resources made to get the Playstation 2 version to look like not-garbage
Sega was and is still the king of bad decisions lol
@@VideoGameEsoterica At least all the Virtua Fighter games in Yakuza on PC are good ports... provided you use the "random strange framerate problems" fix ^_^;;
It’s hilarious the best way to play VF for awhile was via an arcade in Yakuza 😂
Virtual fighter is good because don't have the annoying effects like tekken, given it a more realistic approach, his mechanics also intrigue me.
It’s less over the top for sure
3:02 "All the Naomi 2 was is basically if you duct taped three Dreamcasts together and made them run in tandem" 🤣🤣
Have you finally been able to get your hands on a Naomi 2 board ever since ? I know we have plenty in Europe because of Virtua Striker 3 and Club Kart so I guess they would be scarce thus expensive to get in America, especially if you have to pair it with a Dimm board.
After an awful Virtua Fighter 3 this game looks like a godsent in comparison but I wonder if they would have really needed five years and a Naomi 2 to make something like this to face Tekken 3 even if it would have less nicer graphics.
No I haven’t gotten a NAOMI 2 yet. But then again I haven’t really even looked so it’s mostly because I wasn’t even 100% I’d I wanted one
Fighting games are easy. Just spam the same juggle combo until you win. You only need to memorize like 5 percent of the command list.
"When Virtua Fighter 5 had an actual audience on the Xbox360" what a fuck!ng joke that is to hear indeed.
I wanted to buy virtua fighter 3 arcade so bad when it came out.
you can grab a NAOMI and just netboot for VF 3
@@VideoGameEsoterica isn't VF3 in Model3 hardware not NAOMI?
Lol yeah I got confused
I love how each VF game was on top of the game in terms of fighting game AND technology.
very true of VF1, VF2, VF3 and VF4. I am not sure if it is true of VF5, PS3 and PS4 seemed really able to handle it. Plus SEGA was making no more original hardware systems (as opposed to model 1, 2, 3 and Naomi 2).
VF4 is beautiful and the gameplay seems interesting. I only had VF1, VF3 and VF5 at home.
Yes Virtua Fighter 1-4 weren’t just great games but graphical showcases for whatever brand new Sega hardware was new. They were showcase games for sure!
Yes, VF5 was indeed the top of the line as well; despite it being a Lindbergh title.
5 is awesome as well but as the first VF that wasn’t made on Sega hardware it bums me out.
@@VideoGameEsoterica I get you, man.
Thanks!
wow thanks....first super like? or whatever it's called!
Can you show off the card emulation that works now
Maybe in the future :)
Is there a portage for dreamcast? it would be great!
There is not
This is me being really nip picking here but I liked how Sarah's and Jackey's stages looked in evolution with the head lights on the helicopters and with the thunder and lightning but this revision is still really cool because it is exclusive to the NAOMI 2 platform has a normal or challenge mode I really like the character select music and was a Japanese only release as well
That’s fair :) not nitpicky at all. We like what we like!
Still twiddling my thumbs for virtua fighter 6 lol 🙂
Aren’t we all lol
@@VideoGameEsoterica yes we all definitely are still waiting , I mean even the tekken fans want to see a new virtua fighter sequel lol 🙂
One day I’m sure Sega will do it
Just got a copy for my naomi 2 myself, however I cannot seem to boot it? I am using a japanese naomi 2 with a normal dimm board, could this be the issue?
I’d need more info as to what error you are getting
@@VideoGameEsoterica The game loads into the dimm completely fine then reboots. After the splash screen once its loaded it just goes to a black screen. I cannot even access the games test menu.
So no numerical error eh? Hmm. That’s a tough one
@@VideoGameEsoterica yep, its the only naomi 2 game I have too so I'm not sure if the board can run other naomi 2 games, all of my original naomi games seem to work fine though.
Not sure. Sorry I can’t be of more help. I’d really need to see the hardware in front of me
Thumbs up an excellent video my friend! I love that you highlighted this particular version of the game, as I've never gotten a chance to play it. I've been playing a lot of VF4 evolution for PS2, and one of the reasons I love it is because of the quest mode which gives the player a lot to do in single player. It has a RPG like aspect to it which I love, and which is sadly lacking in VF5 for the consoles. Hopefully Sega will port VF5 final showdown to PC and include something like quest mode when it releases.
Thanks. Yeah it’s a lot of fun to talk about these lesser known versions
how to unlock virtuafighter1 costume
Not sure
If we talk about the arcade versiom then it's not possible through emulation as of right now, and even if you had real hardware you would need a VF4 player card with the VF1 skin unlocked.
Thankfully these are easy to unlock on the PS2 ports. If I remember correctly for vanilla 4 you have to level up 11 ranks.
Meanwhile in the PS2 version of VF4Evo just play through Quest mode til you get enough Gold to buy the skin at the item shop.
Good to know
@@thesch2867 thank you
Great video!
Appreciate it
👍
:)
The simpelton's Tekken.
Lol those are fighting words. Pun intended
