  • I don't know what creature's howling like that, but it began howling again as I hauled and stacked wood rounds in the evening, so got my camera and recorded some of it. Prior to getting the camera, the thing howled for at least five minutes. What kind of animal is that? A wolf? A Forest Person? Or something else?
Go to the 2:30 mark in this video to hear the thing howling last year at the cabin. Please turn your volume up high - • Elk and What's Those D... .
This is outside my mountain cabin atop the Sacramento Mountains, in the Lincoln National Forest, a few miles from the tiny vacation village of Cloudcroft, New Mexico, 9000 feet high in the sky.

Go to the 2:30 mark in the video, link below, to hear the thing howling last year at the cabin. It began howling while I was filming elk. Thankfully, I'm not walking on gravel, so the howl, when you turn up the volume, can be heard. Someone out of sight on the mountain begins firing his gun. Please turn your volume up high - ua-cam.com/video/uGc2IDIRIYo/v-deo.html

Next time, please just record without talking and don't walk. When my volume is all the way up, your talking and foot crunching that are very close to your mic are too loud. You can always put the explanation in the description area like you did.

Thank you. I noticed the camera picked up every gravel crunch too. Irritating. Next time, I won't walk. I did this time, trying to walk away from the loud cricket, not realizing the camera would pick up all that crunching.

The problem is, when we turn our volume all the way up you're shouting or walking on gravel.

I love it up there. I was there in April and it was like a slice of heaven. I’m from the Texas Gulf Coast so I really like the low humidity of those mountains. Those kinds of noises would make camping quite interesting to say the least. But I plan to go up there again this fall. Enjoying your videos. Thanks

Thank you Jimmy. I lived in Galveston for a few years back in the 80s. Loved Galveston, yet it was quite humid indeed.

The faint sound of what sound I can hear is probably a wolf but your walking and talking is so loud and those dam crickets

It’s hard to tell but it could be a mountain lion in heat, it’s a very odd and hair raising sound. I’ve heard it up near Ruidoso before.

@@andylimb That's another idea, cougar in heat. Thanks for the idea, Andy. If cougars in heat act like domestic cats, who howl all day and night when in heat, I'd expect that howling to go on most of the time. But cougars may just howl at certain times, as whatever this thing is, does.

Hi! How's it going packing up? All fire restrictions are rescinded here. If you come here this summer, Cloudcroft is fine. Ruidoso, tragically, gets badly flooded with every rain, thanks to the burn scars, so avoid that. The Jagger park should be safe. As well as Capitan and Lincoln area.

@@DesertRatGardener it’s going ok! Just need to figure out how to move food from the freezer that is food for my dogs lol

If it's a lot of frozen food and you have an electrical outlet to use traveling, perhaps a small freezer would do. If not, dry ice keeps things cold for a longer time, and donate the excess to dog shelters.

Interesting...hi EC, I'll be getting up there soon. My Canada trip took a lot out of me. And school starts soon....I'm hoping I can definitely get up there in August several times.

@@NikkiColon Hi Nikki, I enjoyed seeing your Canada trip. Brave, going out in the forest in the pitch black night. I like the no nonsense attitude of that Thomas man (think that's his first name) with you too.
I hope you come up to Cloudcroft too. All restrictions are gone, thanks to the rainy season. Today it is gorgeous - mist and fog early morning. When I came up after church, the dark rain clouds were at the same height over the Tularosa basin. Everything wet, as it rained a lot in the night last night. Looks like it will rain later today up here too. Fire danger's practically gone.
