    They should have kept this scene in. Powerful and good display of acting. Plus it expands the story vs Bonnie and Rochelle seeming to just "suddenly" turn on Sarah.

      J. Ry It wasn’t because of the microphone...they cut it because if they left it in, later at the scene where they try to kill Sarah it would make you wonder why the other girls were still loyal to her if she’s not fun to hang around and it would take the impact of those scenes away(directors words), I agree fairuza killed it in this scene but I also agree that it wouldn’t make sense to leave this scene in, also fun fact they filmed this scene like 20 times, fairuza screamed her lungs out, her voice was destroyed for a couple of days

    I'm not sure why people are saying this scene added nothing to the overall film. Imho, it showed how "the craft" has slowly driven Nancy insane to the point of verbally assaulting the only friends she has, intentionally bringing up very painful subjects that she knew would upset them to the point of just going along with what she says/does. This scene helps to explain why Bonnie and Rochelle turn on Sarah so quickly.

    • @pumpkinhead625

      I agree. Cutting this scene left an awkward gap in the story line. This scene shows the initial rift between Nancy and Sarah. More importantly, it shows Nancy exerting her control over Bonnie and Rochelle through intimidation, making it clearer why they would be so quick to turn on Sarah like they did.

Because in this scene the other 2 girls were also in agreeance with sara about nancy getting carried away and all 3 were conspiring to do a spell. • @CharlieFox2015
      @CharlieFox2015 9 років тому +66

      Za Gabi yep, it shows how vulnerable she actually is. She's not an evil person, she's very, very angry. And she feels that everyone's abandoning her, that's why she snaps and freaks out. Btw there wasn't anything about turning her friends in their former turtured selves, she just said that when she met them they were loners and no one would ever talk to them, but now they have each other, or so she thought. So in my opinion, if you look past the "outburst" you can see how lonely Nancy is. I mean, just look at her family. And now friends. (i'm trying to look from her perspective)

    • @CBItalian04
      @CBItalian04 9 років тому +16

      Charlie Fox Well, while I do understand what you're saying and do empathize with it, she WAS actually possessed by the overwhelming influence of Manol, so really it was a combination of that (mainly) and her feeling like a loner and outcast again. She may not have inherently been an evil person, but with how she manifested her newly gained power in herself, she was beginning to turn a bit "evil," however I don't feel evil is the most apropriate word to describe her transformation. Maybe psychotic, or sociopathic, if you will?

    This scene was more essential than I think they realized at the time. I always wondered why Rochelle and Bonnie were so submissive to Nancy's influence. After all they didn't seem near as wicked, or power hungry, like how they walked out of Sarah's house when they felt things were going too far. They still possessed a conscience. This explains how she guilt/manipulated them under her control.

    • @Kimillions
      @Kimillions Рік тому +9

      Thing is, at it's core...it was never about power per se. It was everybody's need to rid themselves of deep, torturous insecurities. And that's not why they left Sarah's house, remember. They left because they'd foolishly believed magic "fixed" everything only to find that magic didn't override karma (back times three...in the mirror scene). Lastly, remember that fake apology at the end? They were NEVER loyal to Sarah...or had a conscience. Everything was temporary until the well, or should I say, the cauldron lol ran dry.

    • @marzipantart
      @marzipantart 5 місяців тому +1

      @Kimillions but them turning on Sarah was very out of nowhere. You don't realize they used her until the end. The friendship seemed genuine, especially from the blessed be scene. They didn't display those traits at all, unlike Nancy who was threatened by her from the beginning. Bonnie became vain and Rochelle took pleasure in the (deserved) suffering of a racist. Neither of those developments are enough to justify their evil minion behavior. It would have made more sense for them to all fight together against Nancy for everyone's sake, then continue their coven doing good works.

    I hate the way people think of Nancy. She reminds me of how I was when I was younger when I was in high school. I had an abusive father, my family ALWAYS fought with each other, I had undergone a military style boot camp for a youth program, dropped out of school from bullying and went to Job Corps and did welding while having ex-con room mates that always threatened me. All of this led to total rage and angry outbursts. I'm much more mellow now of course that I've graduated college and have a job, but when I was young people took my anger for craziness the same way they took Nancy for crazy. There's a massive difference in crazy and hurt. "YOU TURN YOUR BACKS ON ME, JUST LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE HAS EVER DONE!" I swear I remember saying that once or twice in my youth. Either way, fantastic actors. Love this movie.

    I really like this scene. It steps out of the whole world of Witchcraft for a moment, to show the REAL effect that these powers are actually having over these girls. I'd be lying if I said I didn't feel bad for each of them and their troubling situations, but would also be telling the truth if I said that it wasn't an excuse for them to abuse their powers the way they did. Here, it takes the film to a much more emotional level, where you realize that Nancy is not just dangerous physically, but EMOTIONALLY. She's clearly never been loved or happy (or at least not in a long time) and the only way she's been able to achieve any control over her tragic life is by using these powers (unfortunately to a negative degree). In this scene, we see the MONSTER that she's become in life, but it is only because at least up until now, her opportunity to be an ANGEL has been shattered by her run-down domestic environment, her mentally oblivious Mother, her temperamental and sexually proposing Stepfather and her reputation of being sexually foul and foolish at school.

    This scene would have come right before Sarah get’s the call from Chris for ‘date night’ where, because of the love spell he attacks her. If you look at Sarah’s outfit in that brief scene it is exactly what she is wearing here.
    This is such an important scene because it proves how negatively affected Nancy is by the power of Manon. She literally threatens Rochelle & Bonnie into sticking with her which makes their alliance one of fear later on. This scene needed to stay. Taking it out makes Bonnie and Rochelle seem like they never liked Sarah, which isn’t true. They are both terrified of Nancy. When Rochelle won’t go after Sarah after Nancy cuts her wrists Nancy goes looney tunes because her control over them is fading, and she knows it.
    Rochelle mentioned food as an addiction of hers because in the original script she is bulimic, unfortunately Rochelle’s character had most of her storyline cut from the final film. In the script she has successful parents we met & high achieving siblings. Rochelle’s bulimia came about as a way for her to control something in her life. She used it as a way of combatting her self-loathing for being harassed and for having an inferiority complex within her own family. It’s a shame, I think these scenes were filmed, but cut. In the final film Rochelle became the only lead character with zero family shown onscreen.
    Also, originally Bonnie was the one who moved the pencil
    & it was Sarah who witnessed it.

    • @lauracerqueiramachado8979
      @lauracerqueiramachado8979 Рік тому +8

      Actually I think Nancy didn’t go crazy because of Manon’s powers, I think it only showed what she really was all along, she was the first one of the girls who got into “the Craft” because she wanted to use it to change her sh1tty life but she knew she would need help because she wasn’t a real witch she got Rochelle and Bonnie into it because she needed them but the moment she thought she didn’t need them anymore she showed that for her they were only tools for her to use, she was oppressed but deep down she always wished she was the oppressor so the moment she got all that power to put herself in the level of a goddess and used it to mercilessly attack whoever slightly bothered her, that power highlights what the person is on the inside that’s why it affected Nancy and Sarah in different ways, their deity never came to Nancy when she tried to call Him on her own because He knew she was unworthy and had bad intentions but He went to Sarah just because she asked Him to because she used magic responsibly

    I always loved this movie, despite it's flaws I think it was an intelligent exploration of adolescent psychology. I wish they'd have left this scene in because it actually gives us an insight into Nancy's state of mind. It was edited, I feel to fit in with the black and white morality expected of movies aimed at the demographic, esp. 20 yrs ago! I always felt a degree of sympathy for Nancy despite her gross abuse of the powers bestowed upon her. The abused person seeking to control a situation and in turn abusing others. The coven simply becomes another dysfunctional family in addition to the one she had at home. Please Sony, don't remake a cult classic. Instead release a deluxe re-edited edition for the 20th anniversary!

    0:50 I really like what Rochelle said about Nancy being addicted to witchcraft like alcohol and needing professional help because it’s true that anything could become an addiction when it gets out of hand including religion, I remember something Terry Crews said about how in his family everyone had some sort of addiction even if they knew it wasn’t healthy, for his father it was drinking, for his mother it was going to the church and for him it was consuming pornography until he got the help he needed to overcome this.

    Ive seen The Craft so many times, I was 18 when this movie came out and it has stuck with me like glue since then and this is the first time watching this scene and I loved it!! This scene makes the movie have so much sense now, for example, of why Nancy acted the way she did with Sara towards the end, (she was jealous since the beginning, knowing Sara had real powers, we see this throughout the movie) but this scene explains she was afraid that Sara was stealing her only friends, so it explains why she got so mad with Sara at one point. This scene explains also the relationship Nancy, Bonnie and Rochelle had before meeting Sara and how sad and bullied the 3 of them were; I always guessed this by the way they acted the first time we see them in the movie, where they look kinda depressed and sad, specially Rochelle and Bonnie. What I dislike about this scene is what Rochelle says to Bonnie, it doesn't make any sense at all!!!

    She became addicted to 'The Craft.' All of the power she has gained was going to her head and it got to the point of where she was killing people (which is a very VERY big no-no in Witchcraft) and because they were in cohorts with her, they would have suffered the consequences with her. Thus, the 'intervention.'

    This was the perfect scene for Nancy. It shows that they were never real friends to her. They were people she saw as pitiful that would depend on her and therefore never abandon her. People she had power over. And that’s why she didn’t like Sarah from the beginning. She knew she could never overpower her. Never manipulate her mind and emotions like she did the other girls. Even though Sarah was also an outsider, she was strong and independent. And that threatened Nancy’s position with her friends. She most likely also believed that this was the only way to have friends and that Sarah would manipulate the girls into leaving Nancy and Sarah taking her place within the group.

    Nancy really does already have a God complex in this scene. She genuinely believes that SHE saved the other two girls from essentially being nothing, when (as well all know) it was actually Sarah. Nancy's origin and goals are so similar with other villains (power and control) who have had just as bad childhoods, both in movies and in real life. It's pretty mad how applicable her illness is to real life people who were treated just as bad as her.

    I'd prefer if they left this scene in, but also I can kind of see why they didn't. What I can say though is that Fairuza does an AMAZING job channeling the toxic friend/family member role. Both the dialogue and her acting really delivers exactly how a toxic parent speaks to their children, and the movie does an amazing job showing how children from broken families tend to reenact this behaviour on their friend groups, speaking from personal experience.

  • @jonas3333

    While there's nothing wrong with the acting in this scene and in fact, Fairuza rocks her part as usual, I think it was a good choice to cut this scene.
    This scene becomes redundant when placed with the other scenes in the movie that are plenty telling of Nancy's tenuous grasp of sanity. And the cliche of "You'd be nothing without me!" is so overdone and tiresome.
    There's a few scenes in the movie I wish they had expounded on at least a bit more, like the touching moment between Rochelle and Laura Lizzie or some additional footage with Sarah and Lirio perhaps, but even Fairuza's stunning screen presence and ability can't make this scene worth keeping.

    I can see why this scene wasn't left in. As poignant and touching as it was, a scene like this would have deserved a completely different movie, and it contradicted with Bonnie and Rochelle turning on Sarah later. I honestly don't think simply turning on these two and reminding them of their past would have been enough for them to turn like that. Teenagers can be weak, but not that weak.

      Terrae Spiritus This is basically an alternate version of when the three of them accost Sarah, in the bathroom. This version appears as though Nancy's companions are beginning to turn against her. Apparently, they wanted Sarah to appear more alone, and near her breaking point, as apposed to seeking help for an alleged "friend" who has murdered for her. Also, I seriously doubt that teachers and workers alike at the school would've allowed a student to have bellowed and whined like that....

    Love this movie and I really liked the fact how this part was the missing link in the movie..We all saw their transformation and how they acted afterwards but I love the way Nancy throws it out there..I wished they would have made a part 2 around this time..

    If Nancy screamed at me of "Don't u, EVER SCREW WITH ME!!!" I would've said this..."Don't give me a reason too in the first place."
    Cause she is heading towards the edge, and like Sarah, I just wanna prevent her from falling which she did in the end unfortunately.

    what i dont get was this ,sarah was suicidal -bonnie was burned ,nancy was crazy and they made rochelle's character "black " ?
    that was her problem??? in the 1990's?? they showed the other white girls family but rochelle's family wasnt really seen.
    i wonder why? seeing a black witch is so fuckin interesting because its the one thing we really dont see! we dont see other minorities of different colors and races as witches. they should have delved deeper with rochelle's character.

    • @harls_974
      @harls_974 3 роки тому +1

      Her problem was a bit more than being black. It was severe insecurity. She secretly envied the other girls' beauty and couldn't find any pride within herself. Rachel True (Rochelle's actress) talled about the reason why she played Rochelle was because she wanted to shine more light onto Rochelle's character and the struggle black girls had in the 90s with bullying and racial slurs and so on. She made an interview about it somewhere but I can't seem to find it. Anyways, Sarah was suicidal, Bonnie was burned, Nancy was crazy, and Rochell had severe insecurity.

      @@harls_974 i just think that the character "rochelle " is interesting because we rarely see black witches on tv or in the movies -we NOW see charmed reboot and i love it but something in the charmed show is lacking. in my own opinion.
      there are so many REAL BLACK WITCHES ON UA-cam ,that are really smart and well seasoned that if we show rochelle , and use these real black witches as a template and what she did next ,we might see that she struggled a little bit but maybe she surged as a magician or teaches other witches. maybe even their children as well.
      rochelle could be in a magic shop selling goods and giving tarot readings and trying her best to undo a binding that was done to her! we didnt really see her life story or a family so maybe her mother collects crystals and her father had a mother that was into hoodoo .i just know it would be a good movie to see her back on screen and talk about being bounded by magic. plus being bound by your ex friend that might hurt too! plus even through she' is bound by sarah -that dont mean that the power is not still in her! its still in her!

      @@Androshi Yeah, yeah definitely. Especially with like, Afro-Latina witches, black witches, Asian witches, African-Chinese witches, and perhaps even Native American witches. There are SO many minorities that are never seen in movies that involve witchcraft. Perhaps in the reboot, it would be more diverse honestly. I would love to see perhaps a biracial one too. It would be fascinating to see these minority characters be portrayed as these badass ones and let them have their own unique personality.
