- Here's a commercial offer for four Dr. Seuss Beginner Books from Grolier (never mind that that imprint was owned by Random House), plus a book rack and Dr. Seuss' now-iconic "The Cat in the Hat" as a free bonus, as in the latest issue of TV Guide magazine. The books that are offered as part of this deal include "Dr. Seuss's ABC," "Hand, Hand, Fingers and Thumb," "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish," "Inside, Outside, Upside Down" (an early Berenstain Bears book), and "The Foot Book" (some of the titles offered were in the "Bright and Early Books for Beginning Beginners" series).
A little kitten walks around during the course of the commercial and the cat is put into a hat at one point to illustrate.

Reminds me of my own cat. I don't trust her in my room because of her habit of chewing on papers and making loud, playful meows while doing so!
This must've gone on for a few years, I was born in 1979 but remember my parents getting me this around 1983 or 1984 with the book rack as well
My parents bought me something similar with Disney around 1987
I was born in '72, my sibling in '74, and our late parents responded to this same offer - or one very similar to it. We even still have all those books in our possession.

This Dr Seuss ad I watched was cool! Especially the Kittycat Meowing!
Simply put… 1980 ~ 2024 = An absolute lifetime ago…
They were comparing apples to crab-apples. The 19.95 set were hard cover 8""x10" to 9"x12" in size. Those books in the deal were 5 1/2"x8" and most of them were soft cover. An early example of shrinkflation.
My life would be COMPLETE if you ever post the one-off 1977 ABC music special CONSTANTINOPLE. I know. It's a weird name for a music show. LOL!! Gotta see it again!!

Those grolier jerks... I had all the cat in the hats and the bookshelf thing. Just got rid of the bookshelf a couple years ago but still have the books, then got the Disney ornament collection and the space collectible pamphlet thing in a binder
TV Guide and Dr. Seuss before inflation surged the offer impact.
