    Since remote control signals (IR) need "line-of-sight" to work, you will need this extender if the equipment you're trying to control is not in sight. You'll need to extend your IR signals, especially if your TV is wall-mounted. The BlastIR Wireless uses "RF" to transmit the IR signal through walls or doors.

    I still don't understand this....
    If you have two units in the same cabinet like a Blue Ray and a cable box, do you need just one receiver and two emmiters or two receivers and two emmmiters?
    Thank you for a response.

    Question: I use the Bond remote-replicator to control ceiling fans and lights. It is a disc that connects to WiFi so you can control devices through your phone or Alexa/smart speaker and then learns and copies remote codes so that when you say “Alexa, turn on kitchen fan” it emails the code and the fan goes on. I am trying to get this to work so I can turn off the light (and fan) in my kids’ playhouse. The Bond doesn’t reach it. Would this device pick up an Omnidirectional signal (not pointed / aimed) and replicate it in the playhouse 50+ feet away?

    @sewell Direct would a smart TV cause interference/ any issues as there would be multiple wireless items (IR wireless, phone, smart tv...) Thanks

    • @sewelldirect
      @sewelldirect  6 років тому +1

      We haven't had any issues with smart TV's so far. The only thing that used to give us a lot of trouble with our IR extenders was Plasma TV's since they emitted some interference for the IR signal. But so far we haven't with this one. I would only strongly recommend checking out the list we have of devices that are not compatible with this extender. Also the PRO version of this extender allows you to change the "Zone" or transmitting "channel" in case you do run into some interference.

    I have a set of these and so far it works great. One issue, though. The transmitter and receiver occasionally flash a blue light for no reason (they're just sitting there, no remote control activity or anything). This blue blink is easily fixed with a piece of black electrical tape, but is there a better solution?

    • @sewelldirect
      @sewelldirect  7 років тому

      I asked one of the smartest guys here that knows a lot about IR extenders, this is what he said:
      "The blue light flashes when it is picking up an IR signal... usually when you push a button on the remote, but if there is another source that triggers it, it can cause it to light up. Lots of things can send seemingly random IR signals. Some 3DTVs use IR to sync the 3d glasses, occupancy light switches can use IR to check if the room is empty, my kids have some toys that interact using IR, etc. etc. (but most commonly for me, I'm sitting on a remote)"
      I have also heard of some Plasma TV's to interfere with IR signals. Do you think any of this applies to you? if not, we can see about getting you a new one if you think it might just be defective.

    • @ssranon
      @ssranon 7 років тому

      +Sewell Direct Thanks, actually the unit works great, other than the blue flashing light. It's installed in a home theater room which is essentially a dark batcave, so the flashing blue LED is noticeable.
      Probably some other random IR is triggering BlastIR's blue flash -- there's an extensive Logitech Harmony system with lots of IR dongles throughout the room, too. In fact the BlastIR is controlled by the Harmony, and the BlastIR transmitter controls a Lutron light dimmer at the back of the room.
      The BlastIR transmitter's blue LED is bright enough to light up the back of the room with blue light! :)
      As I mentioned above, the issue was easy to fix it with some black electrical tape. No need for a replacement, but thanks for the offer!

      Yes, it should, based on my experience. I have the BlasIR "receiver" in front of my Harmony hub (where the Harmony hub emits IR), and the BlastIR "transmitter" on the other side of the room controlling another device. Works fine with all my Harmony programmed activities.

    Ok the unit came and works great, very easy to install using USB's on both ends. Only problem the single sensor for the front of TV did not work so I had to mount the small hub on my TV, the double sensor plugged in to the hub stuck on front of cable box works fine.
    How do I get a replacement single sensor cable/wire without having to send the whole box back. Would like to have one as I paid for it.

    • @sewelldirect
      @sewelldirect  6 років тому

      It should work as long as they are not using some kind of proprietary IR protocol. So I'd check if your manual lists the IR frequency and compare to the ones we list on the site for this (20-60Khz) But I would recommend getting the PRO version (here: goo.gl/6XNFD7 ) because it comes with USB power cables so you can power them, and they are slimmer so you can tuck them in somewhere easier. This classic version only comes with the wall power adapter. That way you simply plug them into USB power ports on your car.

  • @thedutchmanandthedigger1500

    Sorry this may be a bit lengthy. I have a corded IR extender (does not convert to RF signal). This type of extender has a small sensor (I put it under my tv) that picks up the IR signal and repeats it through the cord to a small eye that is stuck over the units (cable box, movie player, or ?) IR receiver. I had been using this setup for many years. I just updated from and older Onkio DR90 AV receiver to a new Sony STR-DH770 and a Sony blue ray unit. After hooking up the new components everything worked as expected except I am not able to control the Sony AV receiver ( STR-DH770 ) through the extener/re-emitter. My question is, are there more than one type of IR signals? Also are there some units that can not be controlled through an IR extender?

    • @sewelldirect
      @sewelldirect  7 років тому

      Yes, there are a few different types of IR signals. For example, there are devices that are "single band IR" and some are "Dual Band IR" also a few different protocols. But if you have a "Dual Band IR" extender it will work for single band as well. Some devices sometimes use proprietary protocols that are not compatible with some IR extenders. If you prefer wired extenders, this one will probably work for you, it is our most compatible extender that works with almost anything: goo.gl/6gccMv

    Hello i have a Onkyo Av receiver HT-R8230 hooked up to my Sharp Tv LC-60LE745U threw a Optical Cable on the Otherside of a wall With some other audio stuff and I want to use the Factory IR plug on the back of the Receiver to be able to control the Volume from the Receiver would you have anything that is a PLUG & PLAY thats at least 8+ feet that can relocate the IR plug to control the volume thank u

    • @sewelldirect
      @sewelldirect  7 років тому

      yeah we do, all you need is an IR receiver "Eye" if it didn't come with one... you just need to know what connection it is (I'm assuming 3.5mm??) and also what type of IR does your Onkyo use on that plug, there is Single Band IR, or Dual Band IR. Do you happen to know that info? If you do have the original IR receiver cable then all you need is a 3.5mm extension cable which we also have.

    • @sewelldirect
      @sewelldirect  7 років тому

      Although after reading the manual for the HT-R823 I am not sure if the IR port is to control the Onkyo itself, from what I understand it is to control other devices with the Onkyo remote when you plug them into that port. Not sure though that's just what I understand from the manual.

      right out of the box and if the devices are all in the same cabinet then 3. (one directly with the sender unit, and the other two using the Dual-headed emitter) But if you use Quad-emmitters like these: goo.gl/SGL2VZ then you can make that up to 5 total. I bought the wireless pro, set it up today with my new Harmony IR remote, and it doesn't work. My current Logitech Harmony remote is old and the buttons don't work. It uses RF. I didn't want to spend the money for a new RF remote, so I bought a cheaper IR Harmony remote and programmed it exactly like my current remote (through the Harmony software).
