jungle park is literally about 2 miles from where i live. there is lots of history there. go visit it in the summer when the canoe rental is going on. lots of fun
Please DO NOT make anymore until you learn camera technique. Its jumping all around makes the view dizzy. Also, get a professional narrator. Otherwise, thanks.
my grandfather and his best friend used to pull from North Chicago and Waukegan to race at this track. his last race, his friend was killed during one the races that afternoon when he left the track and was decapitated. my grandfather never raced again. more information about this racetrack can be found by reading the book, "The Ghosts Of Jungle Park", by Tom W Williams. great reading....i have my own signed copy
That sprint car is pretty neat and has some history for sure. It still carries the original leaf-spring rear end suspension dating the frame back to the 50's, possibly into the 60's. But no later. It still carries the hoop roll bar behind the seat and over the tail tank which really dates this original frame. But you can see that hoop was made of more current "thick" pipe material somewhere along the way, so someone tried to restore it. But not for competition. The instrument cowling looks almost original as you can see some of the holes that would have held the original hand oil pump and right below on the solid 2x4 frame rail holes for the hand brake. As far as the motor, it originally probably carried a inline 6 flathead or maybe a v8-80. But with the covers for a v8 showing now it appears this was made for pure show, or possibly old-timers days at the track to turn a few laps. I've seen frames like this modernized with coil-over suspensions and roll cages, but that would get you into the early 60's maybe... it would be a fun project though researching the history of the car to try and find the original frame designer. That alone would get the ball rolling on a project like this...
Ya race cars from that era are rare to find, especially "home builds" as that one appears to be. Most of them got crashed instead of retired, its very true that there were not many saftey considerations back then.
That was cool, love the new intro, that old race car was awesome...just slow down when you pan with the camera, each video is better and better, nice job!!
The current owners opened it up just a few months before you got there! I live twenty minutes away and been there twice. I get goosebumps every time. I sat for a looong time in the grandstand one time. Did you see the old surface roller in the trees off of turn 1?
There is an abandoned race track in Vineland N.J. Across from the C.C. College,,, it's over grown now of course, however if you look hard enough you can still find some of the old oval blacktop,,,
Interesting video. Enjoyed watching it. It's a shame that it wasn't maintained properly. Might have been a good attraction for visitors even if there was no longer any racing there. Maybe even a local historical site?
Hey great video! One bit of advise make your camera movements slower and more precise. This will help viewers not feel I'll watching them. Keep up the good work!
In the UK there's a whole list of tracks that are no more. The most famous I guess was Brooklands huge banked oval. There is a museum there and part of the old track still remains.worth a visit if your ever in the UK.
the car what a buzz that would have been imagine if it could talk. Of course i am more interested in the car then the old grandstand and part of a track which didnt really go anywhere. But on closer inspection that tarp seems reasonably new and the tires are up so one could suggest the car was staged. Still car has some history
To those wondering about jungle park Dale Jr. Has started a show series called lost speedways and he has a episode on this exact badass and the world's most dangerous race track.

What a shame, the car especially. I wonder if there's enough left of it to restore. Being a race car there'd be no record of it. Someone could take it out of there and fix it up as a collectible.
That race car appears to be running a Buick nailhead v8 and a early 50s Buick steering wheel..I would love to know its history and what has become of it.
TPAC FILMS The sugar creek is really a nice flat water trip. So popular in the summer that you could walk from one shore to the other without getting wet. The trails in Turkey Run are some of the nicest hiking trails in the Midwest. Lots of box canyons with trickling waterfalls.

Interesting video thanks for posting it. One thing, I would much rather hear your footsteps crunching through leaves and grass as part of the experience of the place than have to listen to that annoying repetitive music loop which has no relation to a piece of racing history like this. Cheers!

That car must restore back again as good as this car raced the first time. Even that makes a great solar electric race car with Tesla technology,

That's a crazy story
That car needs to go to a museum
Interfierce Racing 717 I agree! It’s beautiful
Not museum it’s best when they are used. Maybe restored and sold at an action for the track to be restored.
Looks like the only thing in good condition are the tyres. I'd love to see that refurbished.
@@michaelkitchin9665the tires probably lost some air and could use a clean, but yeah.

That car was run by Lloyd Ruby in the early 50s. My grandpa was a pretty well known builder and owner for many teams at Jungle Park.
@@inlandwhaler13 Thank you so much for the history! Its awsome to find out some of the information around old race cars 👍

A cool site. I visited some abandoned race tracks by myself, but never found old race cars. Only a few parts of cars.
Still very cool! Thanks for watching!
Cool. I love how you sling the camera around so quickly it's like being in one of the cars!

I think I did! I was wondering what that was
Very cool and creepy place. I was at the marker unveiling last October. The owners of the property are trying to preserve it as-is.
Also the race car is an old 1950s sprint car ;)
Christian Webb that's awesome I'm glad they're preserving it! And thanks for the comment on the car!
