I'm convinced that they are not going to release the official Big Cypress footage until one of the band members dies! I don't understand why they waited so long, past the 25-year anniversary of it, and now DVDs are no longer popular so they blew capitalizing on that. Not sure what they're waiting for. But if somebody's about to put out a remaster of the footage that exists, and uses one of these remastered auds (most of the audience recordings I heard of this show were bad because the sound at that show was actually not good and loud unless you moved back and got underneath or behind one of the delay Towers, or if you somehow squeezed (squoze?) your way up front enough to enjoy the speakers on the stage. we had decided to get up close for the sunrise set, and I was so disappointed with the sound that I had to cup my ears with my hands! The night before, I was in the back underneath the last hour and you could feel every note from your ears all the way down through your feet it was awesome and told me a huge lesson about where to be at those big shows. Sorry, i ramble intend to obsess a nerd out over these concert details
This. This is why I threw away all my picks in 2000 and never went back. I grew up loving The Dead, Allmans, Jaco, Django, Miles, Brubeck, etc. I saw my first Phish show in 1994 and while I loved the entire band, I was gut punched when I saw Trey play. I tried to see music in a similar way (I’ve also played guitar since age 6, went to Berklee, etc.) but I couldn’t. It was like trying to learn calculus from a textbook in a foreign language. One day though, I heard this and for some reason for the first time ever, I was ahead… I was imagining where it would go next and it did. The arrangement unfurled in front of me and I saw. This song will always mean something special to me because it was the window into the composer’s mind that allowed me to “see through his eyes”. I apologize for the lengthy comment.
Great comment :-) I thought I was going to have to type a reply to try to convince you to give Trey and his guitar playing another chance. Then I reread and saw you said "picks" :-) I have a degree in classical guitar performance, and I've come to believe that you are correct, you might have to build up some strong nails and calluses on your right hand, but you can pretty much do anything with those fingers that you can do with a pick. But I will say that , for me, on a steel string guitar the plastic against the strings is almost like its own percussion instrument, and after using those Jazz 3 dunlops for years, I found this pick Ernie Ball makes called The Prodigy white Mini 2.0 and oh my god, it was the next step and maybe final evolution after 35 years of playing and sequentially going through gradually thicker and smaller picks.
Thank you!! CAMERA MAN! You zoomed in on THE part I've struggled to learn! 0:33.5
